like this song more and more each time I hear it, love the vocal work and the guitars, and the long build up is amazing. lol @ in flames not putting any effort in anymore, this drums has the best drum work theyve ever had, and some of the most technical guitar playing (not as melodic)...a lot harder to play on guitar than any of the old stuff. And as for time, the jester race was recorded in 6 or so hours, a sense of purpose took 21 days to record. |

I find this song to be sort of the general theme in all In Flames' lyrics, but more on a personal sense rather than society as a whole. I see it about looking out his window like he described in the interview, and seeing people disconnected from life/the world, missing the beauty in everything (like the song another day in quicksand)..They are just in a trance going from point A to B oblivious to everything going on around them..they need to see the beauty in dead flowers and let the tide show them whats next ;)...(also maybe they are the plastic people in clayman, and he has to teach them his supernatural art so they become clay and shape who they are and not follow/do whats told to them by society/media/whatever). Him saying "I feel like shit, but atleast I feel something" has nothing to do with being emo or some kids myspace blog, I hate when people interperit in flames lyrics literally, its just like Take this life has nothing to do with being emo and commiting suicide/cutting yourself. It means that even if he feels horrible or like shit, its better than being one of those disconnected people who feel nothing. the marks and the pavement line is just the disconnected people are doing the same thing everyday, disconnected moving from point A to B, the actual marks in the pavement is just an exageration of how much they do it, if he changed something in the backround, or something normally obvious would they even notice it since they've been doing the same thing over and over...it doesnt have to be an actual walking route, it can be a metaphor for anything one of these disconnected people are doing repeatedly. |

i really like that analogy jesterhead... this song also has to tie in with the Whoracle storyline. Whoracle is a themed album that starts off with Jotun and Food for the Gods which is a foreshadowing of whats to come for our race, and how we need to change..It goes on to The Hive and Jester Script Transfigured talking about humans at their euphoria and peak of existance...then it does the Everything Counts cover which is saying we now see our mistakes, but it is all too late to do anything, then it goes to Episode 666 which is our apocalypse which is televised, then whoracle is the calmness of the earth after we are gone. |

all bands must mature, or die, or turn into ac/dc, or both. and weird for you to call lunar strain/tjr an era of in flames, then whoracle to clayman id consider it lunar strain its own thrashy thing, with only 1 member then that is still in the band tjr and whoracle are identical, colony was the peak of their career, such a flowing album (not my favorite), then clayman was sort of a step towards the new style r2r was them figuring out what they want to do, stye was now what they are playing, and come clarity was perfecting it |
