System of a Down – Lonely Day Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Do some research before jumping to conclusions. This song is about how the world is 'on fire' and people are just living their lives as if nothing is happening. Watch the video to understand. |
System of a Down – B.Y.O.B. Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Just look at the dialogue this song produced, whether you agree with it or not - personally I do - you've got to hand it to System of a Down. That kind of discussion-provoking lyrical content is seldom seen in the mainstream (though there are plenty of less popular bands with even better lyrics than S.O.A.D.). Just wanted to send one message to all the idiots who accused the band of "anti-Americanism": Anti-Americanism is a mindless slogan and an idiotic concept. It's a natural usage among right-wing scum with deep totalitarian instincts, who equate state policy with the society, people, and culture. Suppose someone in Portugal who criticized Portugal's foreign policy was condemned as "anti-Portuguese." It would be regarded as too ridiculous even to merit laughter. Now do you see how reactionary and totalitarian the concept is? Anyone with even the slightest concept of democracy should treat such notions with ridicule and contempt. They don't criticize because they "hate" the country, they criticize because they care and want to make it better. You can get up and leave all your problems, or you can stay and try to solve them. System of a Down are not the problem with America just because they can recognize and complain about all of the shit anyone intelligent sees going on here. YOU are the problem with America for chewing your cud like a cow and believing everything you hear. |
System of a Down – B.Y.O.B. Lyrics | 19 years ago |
The lines: "Why don't presidents fight the war? Why do they always send the poor? " Here S.O.A.D. is making an interesting critique on the structure of class society, which allows a rich elite to send the majority into battle. Kepe in mind war before the development of class society was not the same systematic warfare we see now, with the creation of professional armies and the conflict between powerful states, Class society has made it possible for an elite to wage war and send the majority to battle - this was not possible before. Usually, at least in class society, it is a powerful minority that makes war, not the masses of people who are forced to live under a specialized class. |
System of a Down – B.Y.O.B. Lyrics | 19 years ago |
War: I'm sick of it being glorified in subtle and not-so-subtle ways. Let's stop sanitizing it and judging it with an 8th grade mentality that leads to a "good war, bad war" game. There are no "good" wars. War is ugly, destructive, and inhumane and it is hardly ever fought over altruist reasons. |
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes – Wild World Lyrics | 19 years ago |
They say " A'Salam alaikum " to which another person responds " Alaikum al salaam ". The first phrase translated from Arabic means "Peace be with you" and the second phrase is the proper response, which basically returns the kind wish "Peace be with you as well". |
Morning Glory – So Ya Wanna Be A Cop? Lyrics | 19 years ago |
KILL ALL COPS |

Bob Dylan – With God on Our Side Lyrics | 20 years ago |
12 million, DJacques? I've never heard that number. The common figure is 6 million, actually, which is probably an over-inflation anyway. And you don't really elaborate as to why he's ignorant other than declaring that he is, in fact, ignorant. Are we supposed to believe whatever you say as if it's some sort of God-given truth simply because you declare it? Anyway, to reaffirm what has already been said; a beautiful song from a gifted artist with some creative insight. When the first George Bush went into the first Gulf war, he said "God was on America's side", I think that is exactly the type of attitude Dylan is detesting in this song. |
Dead Kennedys – California Über Alles Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Thanks J.J. for the only half-decent explanation as to the meaning or significance behind this song out of all the posts. |
Dead Kennedys – Moon Over Marin Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Can anyone give a more in depth explanation as to the meaning of this song? Marcosturm, my only guess about the two white stripes is that it is an allusion to Adidas brand sport clothing which has two white stripes down the side. |
The Clash – Janie Jones Lyrics | 21 years ago |
"He's in love with rock'n'roll woaahh He's in love with gettin' stoned woaahh He's in love with Janie Jones But he don't like his boring job, no... " Just like it says, describing a man who does drugs, listens to rock n' roll, visits Janie Jones ( a prostitute ) often, and hates his job. "An' he knows what he's got to do So he knows he's gonna have fun with you You lucky lady! An' he knows when the evening comes When his job is done he'll be over in his car for you " -After work he visits the prostitute to relieve all his stress and tensions. He looks forward to it everyday. "An' in the in-tray lots of work But the boss at the firm always thinks he shirks But he's just like everyone, he's got a Ford Cortina That just won't run without fuel Fill her up, Jacko! " His thinks his boss is giving him too much work for not enough money. He thinks he has bills to pay, fuel to put in his car, and his paycheck ain't big enough for the large amount of work he does. He's gonna tell off his boss, let a few things off his chest. "Let them know - how you feel" If you have a job you hate, that's too much work and grovel for not enough money. Tell your boss off and find one you like doing. Stick your middle finger up slowly and stick it in his face, and tell him to take his job and stuff it. That's all you gotta do. |
The Clash – Stay Free Lyrics | 21 years ago |
This song is about Mick Jones' personal experience in Brixton with his friend, pretty self-explanitory if you read the lyrics. You can hear the emotion in his voice when he sings it, this song truly comes straight from the heart. |
Rancid – As Wicked Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Meaningful song, you can hear the rays of empathy eminating from Tims voice when he sings it. There is so much poverty, starvation, and corruption in this world. We all need to learn from this song to appreciate what we have, not be materialistic, and help others as often as we possible can. -Much love, peace, and unity. |
Coheed and Cambria – Devil in Jersey City Lyrics | 21 years ago |
C&C are pure dogshit. I'd rather watch a re-make of Biodome with guest cameo star Mcauly Kulkin 30 times than listen to this shitty song. |

The Clash – Janie Jones Lyrics | 21 years ago |
This song is about a regular blue collar worker who has a rough time with his job so he relies on drugs and a prostitute to relieve his stress. Eventually his stress catches up to him and he gets laid off, and he decides to tell off his boss. At the end I think Joe is trying to say that if you have a job you don't like, tell your boss to shove it and find another one you enjoy doing. |
John Lennon – Give Peace a Chance Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Great song with a powerful and meaningful message of peace. |
The Clash – White Riot Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Settle down there, kiddies. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I suggest you re-examine your ability to create and produce such diverse and talented music before you go calling somebody else's work "weak", SLCpunk. Just a thought. |
The Cure – Killing an Arab Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I critique their musical talent and the voice of the lead singer, I critique their unintelligent lyrical content. |
The Clash – Tommy Gun Lyrics | 21 years ago |
The Thompson, also known as the "Tommy Gun" was the trademark gun the Allies used in World War 2. I can only guess that this song is trying to talk about World War II. |

The Clash – Straight to Hell Lyrics | 21 years ago |
This song is about the Vietnam war, it's affect on the Vietnamese populace, and it questions America's involvement in the war. |
The Clash – English Civil War (Johnny Comes Marching Home) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Played to a very similar tune of a childrens song about Ants. I'm not quite sure exactly what it's about, my best guess is Johnny returning home from a concert beaten badly in the mosh-pit. |
Rancid – Maxwell Murder Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Instead of saying.. "THIS SONG RULES RANCID KIX SO MUCH ASS! I LEARNED THIS SONG FROM DAVE MIRAS BMX!! YAH!!! MY MOMMY MADE ME TURN IT DOWN THOUGH CAUSE IT WAS PASSED MY BEDDY BED TIME!!11"...How about studying the lyrics and giving your interpretation of the song, no one here cares if you think "rancid kicks ass", we want to know the meanings of the song and different interpretations. |
System of a Down – Boom! Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I was, and will always remain opposed to war before I even liked System of a Down. This is a great song, and a great video. If you support war, you endorse death. FUCK THE WAR! |
Operation Ivy – Take Warning Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Why hasn't anyone else besides us commented on this Song? This song, in my own opinion, is truly above par. |
Thug Murder – I Fought the Law (Dead Kennedys cover) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
No, MeganB, YOU'RE wrong, it is "I fought the law and I won" not to be confused with "I fought the law and the law won", this is actually a Cover of a Cover, the song "I fought the law and the law won" was originally written by the Bobby Fuller Four, the Clash later covered it with immense success like Oooska said, and then the Dead Kennedys covered the song..But changed the lyrics around, the DK song is about a politician who murdered the openly gay Mayor of San Francisco and another person ( Hence, I blew Harvey & George out with my six-gun ), and got away with only 6 years in prison, his defense was that he went temporarily insane from eating too many Twinkies...When the cops heard of the murder, they cheered and clapped and supported him, anyway..I just wanted to get things straight - the lyrics are correct. |
The Clash – Clampdown Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Someone please explain the meaning behind this song. |

Red Hot Chili Peppers – By the Way Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I agree with everyone here, this is a great song with good rhythm and beat. |
Andrew W.K. – Ready to Die Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Let me give a translation of what Blink Rockstar, Emochris, and Jemma are trying to say: We do not agree with your opinion, because we like the taste of penis, and more specifically, we like the taste of Sum 41 and Blink 182's Penis's, because we have trained to master the arcane and dark arts of penis-tasting. |
Andrew W.K. – Ready to Die Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Is it really necesarry to put up a disclaimer for you imbeciles? We don't care if you don't like the music, if you don't -LEAVE! If you don't like Andrew W.K. - DON'T buy his CDs, we will understand...Otherwise, go back to listening to Sum 41 and Blink 182, because no one wants to hear your flaming here, you fucking Teeny Boppers. |
