In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
Now that I've lost everything to you
You say you want to start something new
And it's breaking my heart that your leaving
Baby I'm grieving
But if you want to leave take good care
I hope you have a lot of nice things to wear
But than a lot of nice things turn bad out there
Ooh baby, baby it's a wild world
It's hard to get by just upon a smile girl
Ooh baby, baby it's a wild world
I'll always remember you just like a child girl
You know I've seen a lot of what the world can do
And it's breaking my heart in two
Because I never want to see you a sad girl
Don't be a bad girl
But if you want to leave take good care
I hope you make a lot of nice friends out there
But just remember there's a lot bad everywhere
Ooh baby, baby it's a wild world
It's hard to get by just upon a smile girl
Ooh baby, baby it's a wild world
I'll always remember you just like a child girl
Baby, baby I love you
But if you want to leave take good care
Hope you make a lot of nice friends out there
But just remember there's a lot of bad everywhere
Ooh baby, baby it's a wild world

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

They say " A'Salam alaikum " to which another person responds " Alaikum al salaam ". The first phrase translated from Arabic means "Peace be with you" and the second phrase is the proper response, which basically returns the kind wish "Peace be with you as well".
