this song is about the 1978 Jonestown mass suicide. Jonestown was a quiet American town, and the home to the Peoples Church, led by Jim Jones. The Church praticed normally for about two years, until Jones ordered all of his followers to meet at the church. There he told them to drink a special punch he had created, or be shot by the church guards. The punch was spiked with cyanide, and all the drinkers died. Jones shot himself in the head. 913 people were found dead at the church, including nearly 300 children.

i didn't think much of this song at first, but by golly it's one of my favourites off maladroit now! the lyrics are so good. it's about a guy who sleeps with a girl, and she sees it as him just having a chance and taking it - a one night stand. he though, sees it as much more than this.
the best line is "you're gone to stay" as basically this means that although she's gone, he can't forget her and he's totally into her. he feels a lot for her, so much that he "bleeds her now".

basically the movie is fucked up, and contains a scene in which a man sees a cloud in front of the moon and makes him slice a girls eyeball open. the whole film was made by a bunch of artists, trying to go against everything that made a film i.e. no script or proper actors or narrative. "un chien andalou" means an Andalousian dog...which from what i can see has nothing to do with anything really. a 'debaser' though is someone who acts solely to lower something, to degrade it. so i think the basis of the song is that after seeing a fucked up film, he wants to make everything else just as fucked up.

i believe that rivers has at some point experimented with bisexuality and this song has the mild reference to it. "i've smoked a few in my time" and "everyone's a little queeer" show this. also around the same time he wrote 'i just threw out the love of my dreams' a song all about regretting throwing out a male lover. adding it all up together...maybe thats why he doesn't like to perform those songs anymore, huh?

here's an idea. i think maybe this song is a slight acceptance of bisexuality on rivers part. maybe not completely, but at least a hint of experimentation in which he fell for a guy. hence this song - only to be sung by a girl to keep it from being too public. he is singing at the end, saying "he" - and it also links into the "i've smoked a few in my time" line in pink triangle.
as he admits "everyone's a little queer"...
