Like someone said earlier, this post is clearly about someone who has done so much for him without expecting much in return, though i agree it is repetitive i think its just trying to impress a clear message in the listeners mind, and not give a shady thank you but a straight up one in a sense. This song is not necessarily about God. Anyone can thank the people in their life that have helped beyond measure, and thank them boldly and loudly without expecting much of anything in return. But a thankful heart can be a sign of heart touched by Christ. And also, there are more than one way to say Praise God and get the same effect and point across, i think some of you out there with a non-christian perspective seem to refuse this thinking, for whatever case. And any good zao fan out there knows they have had over 28 band members, which would include singers/song writers, which would be the change. Dan's style of writing is much more rich and detailed by being symbolic, or in this case to the point but always with a message, he just doesn't write to have a song. Just not his style. though all songs are up to interpretation there is a general message of christianity exposed through their albums, if you're willing to see or not, is up to you. |

Lets not confuse religion and a realtionship with Jesus, clearly two different issues, but Embodyment was/ is? on a christian oreinted label, play at christian music concerts/festivals and talk about God...i'm not saying that makes them a Christian, but i think it definetely implies something....some sarcasm intended..but about this song.... Its one of my old favorties, i like the guitar effects in this one, very nice intro...but, i still haven't decided if the Lady in Red is suppose to be a person or an idea (of a person)...at this point, 2 years later, i am almost to the point of not caring which it is but it is trite arguement that rumbles in my mind occasionally, would anyone have any input into this idea? |

| Heh, interesting, I have to say i would almost agree with the person that said something about the "friend with benefits" idea, but, i really don't see blindside coming across so shallow. Thats a pretty pathetic realtionship and blindside's lyrical man doesn't seem to go with that general flow, i would see no reason why his style of writing would change so drastically. Its just not his style, being so blunt and literal about things...I'm sure you all covered it in previous posts to the meaning. | |

Christian music is an interesting subject, P.O.D. is an interesting subject itself, but i think you all try to define everything a bit too much. And generalization is rampant in this thread aswell. What we do know is that these bands have songs, and they have meanings, so lets work with that and set the rest aside, and from the meanings we will get more information about the bands and the message they send, rather than their label and their scene. Granted talk is cheap, but talking aloud to the nation about a message they are sending is not "cheap". What just happened? Anyways, that face, makes him think of something he saw when he was young then he comes back to reality and they keep impressing an image in his head and it moves him greatly, "give you my heart". Mayday, mayday Too many voices too much noise in my ear Don't want to lose contact over this black ocean Now you sing follow love I'll be safe in devotion This seems to suggest a lot of crap, moreorless, or going on around him, trying to lead him many different ways. He doesn't want to lose contact with the glimpse he caught earlier, which would support the Christ representive idea i mentioned earlier. Now he implies a theme of "Follow Love" and suggests a daily walk with God will keep him in the right with these many decisions he is faced with. I'm not immune to mistake, what do you all think. |

Hmm, interesting interpretations. I do agree Blindside is a "Christian" band, and not all their songs are geared to straight up literal content. But like most Christians out there, after salvation, your perspective changes, and basically everything new and different. So, I can see God in probably all their songs, but it is up to interpretation. But i'd would have to say this has a very symbolic meaning. Now you have been staring at the sun for a while Is it hurting your eyes I know you want to put those shades on And walk on home with a tan To arrive and leave with style To me this is saying, you realize the truth, you can see it, its as evident as the sun out there, you can't deny the sun's existence, like you can't deny God's. (If you're wondering how i got this idea...no one in their right mind stares at the sun till their eyes hurt.) But that person walks on. But didn't a warm wind blow right through you Melting the ice I know you want to put those shades on And walk on home as planned But stand still for a while This seems to suggest that God is working on that person, like a warm wind(the Gospel) hitting their sinful heart. Which is a typical idea in scriptures. You can hide it You can fight it But blood red color won't fade in time You can hide it You can fight it Those red stains of love will remind your heart now I think we get this as Jesus' sacrifice. After you hear about the gospel, it stays with you, till you completely ignore it. The rest talks about receiving the gospel and being a good witness and how things in this world won't make you happy. And the ending reaffirming that Jesus is always waiting. Very good song, nice bass on the verses, gives it a nice fast pace feel to it. |

To me, the meaning is very obvious. He clearly sets the stage with the opening lines: I hear you, So don't you say another word Now here you are standing, there crushing yourself Now I'm near you But my eyes see a different world Here you are standing there breaking my heart, as your crushing yourself I'm under the impression they in the same room, or he can see her in his mind doing this on purpose. She seems to be treating herself badly, as most of you have noticed, but i personally think its not the reason why she is doing it, its the fact that she IS doing it. Which mean some deep friendship or a girlfriend figure. But lately you have been painting on the walls with a black fire You lit and you call it your mirror and then you hate it And then you spit on it. This says to me, she is doing nothing good for herself or anyone, and just putting black on the wall with a fire....like when you burn something and smudge black on your hands when you touch something burnt...how it gets all over you and the move you touch it, the worst it gets---defintely that effect, is being addressed here. And the fact that its a mirror confirms its herself that is being blacken. So watch your breath cause all I can smell is ashes All her thoughts are burning away, probably the encouraging and uplifting thoughts, and they turn into ashes, like most things in life which represent a death or and end to something, probably the writer was suggesting she spirtiually dead or physically dying (but unlikely since thought equals to mind which would be closer to spirit) So as you can see, although you have interesting ideas about why, i dont think its a matter of why, but the fact that she is doing something to herself that isn't good, and that can be just as bad to someone if they mean a lot. |

hi, i'm finally back, i thought songmeanings had finally bit the dust i'm glad to see the discussion continues but to the guy that catholic and stated that the 6 day creation was a metaphor, just wanted to straigten out the fact that it did happen that way the gap theory is self defeated, contradiction in it anyone here can find this verse for yourself..its the first page of the bible.....genesis chapter 1, verse 11-13 in short, God made plants, verse 20 till chapter 2...in short, God made animals, birds, fish, all those things..now we all know that if this was a metaphor then the days aren't days, you probably think a thousand years(is like a day, and a day a thousand years)...thats an awful long time for a flower to wait to be pollenized by a bee for example.. and since evolution is just a bad religion, with false assumptions, no evidence(actually only evidence that it didn't happen), and i dont know of any other ideas that are out there really and theres also the hovind theory on how the world is what it is today and what happened..should check it out...scienctifically explains why we have the oceans, why mammoths are frozen what happened to dinosaurs, the plates of the earth, and explains the flood....yeah...just wanted to enlighten all of you who might be wondering.. btw, i also have a neat theory on why adam had neither a bellybutton or nipples...i have a lot of free time..... (i'm not a seventh day adventist) ahem, zao is good too |

This song is unusual....the drums make the song i think...it seems like the guitar and bass go once he says a word which he says something on beat with the drums so once a bass drum or something hits hard the singer and guitar and bass hit with it.....hard to explain, but I like it. |
