Burn the End Lyrics
Burn the end and fall away.
Try to look the best to protray this death.
The air around me is cloudy, smells like cancer.
Seems like my need to be something God's not called me to be.
Give me that feeling, I've fooled myself.
Concerned with perception, can't come off looking weak,
Least of all with you.
If I need this image to be me,
Then where is my God able to shine through?
Burn the end, fall away.
Light up another representation of my insecurity.
When I stumble, don't follow my small rebellion.
Corruption collapse,
Compromise will breed corruption.

This song tells of how people can try to live up to something they are not, and uses a cigarette to explain it.
This song also decribes how people turn to cigarettes as a need to fit in because they're insecure. It says that you care more about trying to be cool than you care about what God thinks of you.
This reminds me of how I used to be. When I got saved I wasn't willing to give up my "image" because I wasn't secure and was afraid that I would come off looking weak to my peers. I would have liked to conform to Christ, but instead I didn't let God shine through in my social life and compromised Christianity for what I felt, but knew was mere deception, to be more important at the time.
Bruce does such an amazing job of fully explaining this human condition. In a multiple faceted way.
This song is about falling away or "backsliding" in your Christian walk. When they are talking about the air being cloudy and smelling like cancer, they mean the ways of the world are unclear and result in death (separation from God). It's very hard for Christ to shine through a person when they are doing their will and not God's.
I love how this song basically explains that God cannot be in your life with your priorities in other places. Compromise will breed corruption.
"This air around me is cloudy, it smells like Cancer.... Gives me that feeling, I fooled myself...."
And once more, the words could not have been spoken better.
