Entertaining Angels Lyrics

One to another
Do you remember me
I feel so small
Are you listening, tonight

So temporary
The things that I have seen
I ran so far
Will you take me back again

Entertaining angels
By the light of my T.V. screen
24-7 you wait for me

Entertaining angels
By the time I fall to my knees
Host of heaven, sing over me

One to another
The feelings in between
I won't let go
Of all you taught me, alright

Close as a brother
The way we used to be
I'll hold my breath
And wait for you to breathe

Entertaining angels
By the light of my T.V. screen
24-7 you wait for me

Entertaining angels
While the night becomes history
Host of heaven, sing over me

It sounds like a person who was once close to God, (maybe as a kid?)but then got too involved in the ways of the world. Now he has realized what he is doing is wrong, and wants to repent.

This song, is the prayer of a former believer who is has just found his way back to God.

In the live version, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdYvgTxR3fw) Peter Furler paraphrases Luke 15:7. ("I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.") That said, this song has a couple biblical references that are key to understanding it.

"One to another Do you remember me (the speaker may have known God at one time.) I feel so small
Are you listening, tonight" (Humbleness before God)

"So temporary The things that I have seen (Recognizes the value of God over the world) I ran so far
Will you take me back again" (Confessing and repenting for his sins)

The first verse is the speaker confessing his sins and asking for forgiveness. "Do you remember me... I ran so far/ will you take me back again" These lines show that the speaker is familiar with God, but has just found his faith again, so is hesitant to ask God for anything.

"Entertaining angels By the light of my T.V. screen 24-7 you wait for me"

The first half of the chorus is the speaker recognizing that God never left him (24-7 you wait for me) and that he doesn't have to be in church to meet with God, but can be praying in his living room "by the light of [his] TV screen".

"Entertaining angels By the time I fall to my knees Host of heaven, sing over me"

This is a reference to Matthew 6:8 "Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him"(NIV). God knows what he's going to ask before he prays, so of course the angels would be celebrating by the time he starts praying. (remember Luke 15:7)

"One to another The feelings in between I won't let go Of all you taught me, alright

Close as a brother The way we used to be I'll hold my breath And wait for you to breathe"

In this second verse, the speaker is rededicating his life to Christ. and promising to keep God's ways. ("I won't let go of all you taught me") The second half of the chorus is the speaker asking for a relationship with Christ ("as close as a brother"). "I'll hold my breath, and wait for you to breathe" is the speaker putting God's commands first and waiting on God.

"Entertaining angels While the night becomes history Host of heaven, sing over me"

The second half of chorus 2 "while the night becomes history" is the speaker asking God not to let him forget what happened.

My Interpretation

Tells of how a friend ran away from his problems and how his friend accepts him back.

For me, it seems to go deeper than the simplistic lyrics, as many of their songs do. I see several dynamic aspects of the writer's relationship with God lamented, yet the result is always the same, implying that God never changes, is always there, and still wants the relationship - no matter where the writer has been..

Hey! Newsboys fans:

Im a new fan myself. I got Shine the Hits for my B-day, and I want to know which albums you recomend. I also want to know who else you like (both christian and non-christian) Thanks! :)

"Thrive" is a good one that is recent. My favorite is "Take me to your leader" - an amazing album. I also like "Going Public" and "Not Ashamed" a lot. There are some great songs on those albums that are not on the "Shine" CD, but you will recongize some of them from the album. I like the original version of "God is not a secret" better than the version on "Shine", as well as their version of "I'm Not Ashamed". But, the bottom line is, most of their albums are really good....

First of all kmm630, I recommend Thrive. Its a really good album with a lot of deep lyrics, and alot of fun songs. About this song, I believe that it is about a friendship, but it is about our friendship with God, and how the whole of Heaven, the angels included, celebrate and are thus "entertained" when someone accepts God as their Savior. This is just my opinion though. :)

This song means that whatever we do (what we watch, say, listen to, do ) God is watching. His angles are watching us. We may be entertaining angels by our actions. The bible talks about this in Hebrews 13:2. Check it out!

Hebrews 13:2 has always been my personal favorite verse, so was ecstatic when I got the hits album and saw this title. The wistful sound got me, but it was the lyrics that really sucked me in. It reminds me of how I need to work on my relationship with God-- like you can do all His work and be His hand and feet and all He asks of you, but you have to be dedicated to Him above all. Very pretty song with a very good message.

If you have ever been to a Newsboys concert, Peter Furler (the lead singer) will tell you that this song comes from Luke 15:10 that says "Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repents." This song is about someone who has just accepted Christ as their Savior.

Phil said he wrote this song from an experence, probally more than one time, of just talking to God in front of his TV screen after the TV went out. He said that, that is when he discovered many importaint things.

Has any one seen the Music Video to this? It is one of htose tha thas no real or definite meaning behind it. The 'boys themselves claim to not know what is the metaphore behind it.
