The song makes no mention of politics let alone revolution. The vow taken could be personal instead of political and the song does not make this clear. I could assume that the wicked snake is Donald Trump and the other snakes are his supporters. whether or not it seems to be supported by the text a case could be made.But alas I too would have to project personal beliefs to reach that opinion while looking over this text. However I am far more bothered by your hypothesis than mine which I confess is probably just a wild guess. | I have suspicions about many of the lyrics in this song but do not feel the need to explain what others have also seen because most of the lyrics are straightforward even if the story is less so. But I think most people are not getting what the meaning of the line that starts it and is the songs name. I do think the song is about a romantic relationship the singer had with a girl who was mentally ill and/or was controlled by an over bearing family.It likely was a first love situation for both that went awry. With a possible pregnancy as the crisis that caused her family to shelter her from him. Many of you see that but it is the line about running through the wet grass both of us never tiring desperately wanting that I think few have right.As a first love type situation one has to consider the possibility that they were each others First Sexual partners, or first partner of consequence. Essentially they were both so overwhelmed by desperately wanting each other that they could go at it for hours without them tiring. I had a relationship much like that when I was in college and it seemed we were always trying to find someplace where we could be alone again. We went through wet grass, forests, behind place and anywhere else we could and never seemed to lose our desire. We didn't have a baby but could have with the chances we took. I was an idiot and lost her but my point is that running through the wet grass and never tiring may not be about competitive running and more than likely is about "running just as we can holding onto one anothers hands" until we could say "I think were alone now". just saying. | |

The song seems to be from his point of view as she is finally coming clean about her new relationship to him. I could see her perhaps packing while they talk. The final line is kind of a poison pill when he tells her that years ago he cheated and she never new. This song is about a crazy person who tries to get their shit together, but they don't know how to get their shit together the right way and so they end up going crazier. There's a whole hell of a lot of metaphors in the song but I feel as if I can point out the central plot, then the details will figure themselves out. So the narrator's beard is representative of this discontinuity he feels between him getting his shit together the right way, which involves introspection, and the wrong way, which doesn't involve introspection, which he'd rather not do, and since he isn't engaging in introspection, he's getting more and more insane. He avoids introspection by doing things "the successful bankers do" like watch CNN and read "The 7 habits of highly effective people" (as parodied by "the 7 habits of the highly infected calf", but at the same time it is envisioned that he is a paranoid HEAVY conspiracy theorist. We're not talking just "9/11 was an inside job", this guy is wearing aluminum hats and wrapping his electronics in them, and he thinks locusts are gonna come in his window because the rapture is coming and God is going to punish the earth. Hence "the power of the holy ghost, woof woof woof", and the "woof woof woof" relates to the 3 headed guard dog of hell, and this all alludes to the idea that this guy has a warped sense of relating religion to his reality, a further detail to his lack of self-awareness. In the bridge, he's coming to fact the terms that yes, those bankers are running a brutal international business machine, no, he doesn't want to be a part of that, but he doesn't know what he can count on to be more successful in life. He's not going to shave off his beard because it's representative of HIM, but he's so consumed with the idea that HE. MUST. BE. LIKE. THE. BANKERS that he feels like --THEY-- are //=FORCEFULLY STRIPPING HIM OF HIS IDENTITY=\\ and |BURNING HIS BEARD|. |

To me, it seems obvious the theme of the song is materialism. It says the whole appeal of the cockroach king is the promise of "golden wings", allowing someone to be happy per say. He has the Midas touch and a heart of stone, meaning that he is the arbiter of things "worth' a lot, but he is incapable of love and compassion in a loose sense. It also states that it's all fools gold because it has no real value. The Great Gatsby, an incredibly rich American who won the "game" but was still depressed told him that there is nothing rewarding by living your life to just make money. So this song, to me, is about a society that tells you happiness will be found in wealth. |

No one talks about what the actual "meaning" of the title "Dyer's Eve" actually means. I researched this tonight and came up with the following: It is documented by James himself in several interviews that this song is about him being sheltered from the world about truths and it has everything to do with his father not being there, his mother's passing, and his religious upbringing. By why the title Dyer's Eve. I mean, the word "Dyer" means a person who dies cloth different colors. There is no other meaning of the word Dyer anywhere in any other dictionaries. And dying cloth has NOTHING to do with this wicked ass song. So I think that James took the word "Die" and put it into a verb form and made the word "Dyer" out of it. So when his mom passed and he was out on his own, he was shocked by the word and what he learned and saw. Almost like he was sent out to die because he was protected from the real world. Therefore the night before his mother dies or is forced out into the world, it is Dyer's Eve. What do you guys think? |

The song is about someone being held by an abuser, either a parent or a partner, and pretty much forced to worship them. "all those things I've loved" once he realizes how fucked up his Stockholm Syndrome was, he starts questioning all the sentimentalities and memories he accrued either growing up under the parent or being in a presumable long term relationship with someone. After he starts questioning "what have I done" for a while he himself will end up becoming a narcissist. He will build himself an effigy and no longer mope in mediocre hell, perhaps perpetuating the same cycle that got himself into the situation onto someone else. Behold his likeness, sacred profane. |

| My least favorite part of the song was where he asks why, if America and Britain had the United States of America and the United Kingdom, we should have the United States or Kingdoms of Africa. What people who say this don't appreciate is that these "United" entities were built on bloodshed and genocides - successful and effective genocides. We don't need that in Africa. All the people who suggested the same thing on a politically serious level, like Ghaddafi or Nkruma, always envisioned themselves as the rulers of this "united" kingdom of Africa, much like Napoleon or Hitler and all similar European wackos saw themselves as rulers of their continent. We need to stop talking about pointless political unions and talk more about lifting Africans up from poverty by improving trade within the continent.
