Yes, I agree the first verse is amazing. "Light another cigarette and maybe by the end of it you'll have changed. Make a mental note to self to dig a deeper wishing well next year." It's about loving someone so much but not being able to be with them any longer. Knowing that they aren't going to change regardless of how many times you wish they would. Therefore you are forced to leave and be haunted by them and still carry that love and dream. He fears her knowing it will never work, and he could be pulled back in because she gives him chills. |

It's about a relationship in a society where people lust and not love. "My Boyfriends gone," "Everyone in this town is seeing somebody else." She fails the 'rules' of a healthy relationship. Though in their society it's normal and their disease. He's tired of who he is which I'm not sure if he's tired of living in the lust after feeling what it is to love in a society of cheating, or tired of being the other man ("who's the greater sin"). Probably both. It was over before it began, because she is a CHEATER! |

I've loved Copeland since they began about 10 years ago and was surprised to see I hadn't commented on this awesome song. His past "rain rain rain" could be on his mind. He tries to wipe it away but nothing can make him forget about the "raining" in his life and how he's walked away from it. Fighting until they/he thinks he will be free and walk away. And it seems like it's the type of relationship he's always been in. They feel "rains" but it's beautiful. It could make him face his fears and choose her and stay with this "rain." Not communicating in a relationship where there is fighting. Putting on a pretty face in public. Fear takes its place at night and there is more "rain" but she's so pretty in their "rain", he loves her. He could leave her and think that she would be better off because of all the "rain." He could leave her and save it for another day because he loves her. (Maybe he's walked away from his past "rain" [saved it for another day because he thought he loved them but it wasn't beautiful] because he wasn't able to face his fears and hadn't found something to die for. And that's why they will come knocking on his door, but he faces his fears and chooses the one he would die for). Because of all the "rain" he's seen in his life he's come to learn that its about fighting for what you love, not giving up. When you've found something to die for, the "rain" just might be beautiful. When you've found something to die for it'll make you face all your fears. And when you've found something to die for all the other "rain" from your past will come knocking on your door. Face your fears and choose the one who loves you more. There's more to this song, I'm sure. And I'm quite sure, throughout my life I've had slightly different interpretations. |

i hear "wit." i think it means that if he's taking ecstasy, its something serious, not something to take lightly. it's not a joke. i also think that it's between a man and a woman in a relationship. especially with the part "please keep your hands down, and stop raising your voice. it's hardly what i'd be doing if you gave me a choice." meaning, he would rather be holding her, or doing something sexual. |
