Artificial Light Lyrics
no one defies artificial light.
simultaneous sitting 'til you atrophy
maybe you try to be pretty instead of kind
why is this technology an anathema to me?
if i could just breath it out....
i could always breathe back in
i'll cut all your wires
i never cared
cut all your wires
what can be there? it's dead.
and all the invisible arcs
are caught in my head
and the invisible arcs
are caught in my head
simultaneous sitting 'til you atrophy
maybe you try to be pretty instead of kind
why is this technology an anathema to me?
if i could just breath it out....
i could always breathe back in
i never cared
cut all your wires
what can be there? it's dead.
and all the invisible arcs
are caught in my head
and the invisible arcs
are caught in my head

what does this song mean? i cant pinpoint it. what is the technology thats cursing her? what person is she cutting ties with and why? i cant figure this one out.
this song is also missing the second verse where the "maybe you try..." portion is replaced with... "maybe you try to witty instead of bright"
this song is about how people are replacing humanity with materialism and technology in our increasingly individually insular worlds. your car doesn't defy you, TV doesn't defy you, you're computer doesn't defy you, your gaming console doesn't defy you, your cellphhone doesn't defy you and people defy those devices less and less (preferring them over people). People are replacing people and the necessary real interactions and connections that come with them, good and bad, with technology
rainer maria = burning, brilliant light
@emsquared it becomes ever more apparent as we become more entrenched in it, doesn't it? The more connected we feel technology has made us, the more alienated we become. Kafkaesque. But one day it will become the status quo, ubiquitous.

This song is skiptutalitastic.
awesome.
i wish i believed that breathing in was that easy...i am not convinced that the air will be waiting when i need it back.
first time ive ever heard a rainer maria song, i like it a lot, beautiful
i saw this song live in tallahassee. it was one of the best performances i have ever seen.
i love her voice.
i hope i never witness someone saying "skiptutalitastic" again
reminds me of online relationships or something and how they don't really mean anything. of course i don't know if that's what it was written about.
