Bane – Count Me Out Lyrics 10 years ago
Just saw them tonight in Frankfurt, Germany, where they played this song as an encore, and Aaron said how each and every part of these lyrics is still completely true to him.

Deadlock – Awakened By Sirens Lyrics 14 years ago
ummm... I definitely doubt this song's about religious wars or something like that.
i guess it's about waging war in the name of earth and the animals, as most of Deadlock's songs.

"may our rage defend creation
Under cover of darkness you raped innocent life" - sure sounds like taking revenge for the murder of animals.

Heaven Shall Burn – The Bombs Of My Saviours Lyrics 16 years ago
Obviously written from the perspective of one of the few Germans who were no followers of Hitler during World War II. Someone who's waiting for the allied forces to finally bring down his fatherland - so that through total destruction (of the "Thrid Reich") he'll finally have the chance to be free again.

For a German band, these are quite exceptional, impressive lyrics. Although a vast majority of Germans accepts that WWII was caused by Germany, of course, still a large number of people here claim that the bombing of Dresden (and all the other German cities) was a crime or something. Although it actually was the only way to end the reign of terror and was obviously well deserved - what these lyrics make absolutely clear. Thankfully.

Heaven Shall Burn – Endzeit Lyrics 16 years ago
"Endzeit" translates as something like the apocalypse... the time when everything comes to an end... a time where no escape is possible anymore, you have to face your guilt and stand up for what you believe in.

I may be totally wrong, but to me these lyrics sound like a call to arms for everyone who means to stand up against fascism. Which is terribly on the rise again, in Germany.

"A promise to the felons, you'll never rise again" - the Nazis and Neo-Nazis who haunt Germany again will be fought back, they'll have no chance to dominate this country ever again.

As I said, I might be totally wrong. But Heaven Shall Burn are really big in terms af antifascist resistance activities, and (neo-) fascists really are a big problem especially in Eastern Germany, where the band is coming from... so to me, this interpretation makes sense.

Apart from that: a fucking great song ;) Totally blows you away.

Heaven Shall Burn – Voice of the Voiceless Lyrics 16 years ago
How can you even DISCUSS if this song is about animal rights? Of course it is... just read the lyrics:

"A rain of blood should cover our world
Stench and decay should be the only thing we sense"

-> because that's what animals lives come to, thanks to humans. but we tend to ignore all the suffering we cause, the blood and the stench of decay. Because our burgers are all made up yummy, no sign of the animal that gave its life for this burger is left. Every meat eater should be forced to endure the stench of decay and death. Then, perhaps, he would begin to realize what he's doing...

"But hidden in the dark and erased from our heads
barbarity and slaughter are everywhere"

-> Slaughterhouses are out of sight for most humans... so they can easily ignore the reality behind their "meals"

"On the edge of a new age this is still our dogma"

-> Meat eating is still being considered to be "normal", to be "just alright"... still, in our time. That's a monstrosity, because it's nothing but murder.

Pretty hard to misunderstand these lyrics.
And btw, there was a vegetarian/vegan-sXe-compilation named "Voice of the Voiceless" on Smorgasbord Records in 1991. Guess the title is also meant as a tribute to that record.

Bloc Party – Kreuzberg Lyrics 16 years ago
you're wrong, just as i said. kreuzberg never had a wall through it. the wall was between kreuzberg and mitte/friedrichshain... not through kreuzberg itself.

Bloc Party – Kreuzberg Lyrics 16 years ago
Some of you don't get all the facts straight - and I guess even the lyrics themselves don't. But no wonder, the situation IS devilishly complicated.

@ kelefromthebloc: "the berlin wall was built through kreuzberg, of which some remains. It perfectly split kreuzberg between the nice part and the skank part."
-> nope. The wall was NOT built through Kreuzberg. Kreuzberg is and always was a part of West Berlin. The wall separated Kreuzberg from the East Berlin areas of Friedrichshain, Treptow and Mitte.

What makes matters so complicated is that there's been a constitutional reform concerning the areas of Berlin a few years ago. TODAY, Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain form one area together, they share one parliament etc. But they never did before the wall was built, and therefore they were not "split" by the wall (let alone Kreuzberg itself).

The East Side Gallery is located in Friedrichshain, on the former East-Berlin side of the wall, btw. Not in Kreuzberg.

So, yes, in a way the wall would have been built through Kreuzberg - had Kreuzberg been united with Friedrichshain back in those days already. But it wasn't, so this interpretation is not quite right.

@ uncommon_valor: "two diffrent areas. the north-eastern 'SO36' part and the south-west 'SW61'. still there I think. though the areas are reconciled."
-> You got something else completely wrong. SO36 and SW61 are both parts of Kreuzberg, yes, but they have NEVER been separated - since they both belong to West-Berlin. Like the whole of Kreuzberg itself.

Kettcar – Deiche Lyrics 17 years ago

Chain of Strength – True Til Death Lyrics 17 years ago
you're kinda holding a grudge against Ian MacKaye, right? Judging from your comments on this site ;)

Anyway, remember "true till death" was recorded in 1989. a time when ian mackaye still WAS very edge, or wasn't he? he was definitely still quite a youth back then...

and, whatever, sXe was NEVER meant to be anything but a matter of personal choice, anything but that is something I'd rather call fascist. btw, do you remember HEADFIRST and their anthem "self edge"?

"Remember, a few years back? When straight edge wasn't making so much noise. Well, times have changed for the worst. The edge has lost its personal choice. Pushing ideals, clinging to trends. Wake up and see that others have a right to do what they want."

what's more -

a) ian mackaye single-handedly invented the term "straight edge", so he can do with it whatever the fuck he wants, anyway ;)

b) Chain of Strength never were "true till death", they were "true till the end of the gig", at max! FAKE EDGE, from the beginning... so Curtis should have just kept his mouth shut

c) these lyrics are severely childish. or, could you say DULL?

great song by ALONE IN A CROWD, great cover version... Does anyone have any idea why he leaves out the last word of the original lyrics, "unity!"? coincidence? or is there a meaning to that...?

7 Seconds – Big Hardcore Mystery Lyrics 17 years ago
woah ... the one song where the Seconds' age shows. such a great band with such an importance to the scene. and after a few truly bad records (sounding like U2) they found their way back on track. even "take it back..." is a great album, in general.

except for THIS song. the anthem of their dying day. a pop song at its worst. and lyrics that say nothing else but: "it's over, we're old, we don't understand the young folk of today. we used to be hardcore, but time has passed us by. so kids, just do your thing and call it hardcore, we're too old and fucked up to understand any of it anymore, anyway. and, in the end, we don't care."

sad. pathetic.

Turning Point – Behind This Wall Lyrics 19 years ago
turning point was one of the most important sXe-outfits between 1988 and 1991. In the beginning, their sound was that of just another typical YOT-clone, but as time went on, they integrated a more Gorilla Biscuits-kind of melodical approach and more "rock" influences. "Behind this Wall" was one of their last, and greatest songs.

Go to http://jadetree.com/bands/artist/turning_point to find out more, and to download the song "Thursday".

Heaven Shall Burn – Bleeding to Death Lyrics 19 years ago
These lyrics have to be about that other German country... the one HSB come from? The German Democratic Republic. It's about how the so-called "unification" of the two German countries happened after 1989... and about what has become of East German culture and everything... about how it's just been completely demolished by West Germany, by capitalism and greed. "four decades of a life denied" -> this is about the strange tendency in nowadays Germany to neglect there has ever been another German country with its own political system. It's like telling the East Germans that all their past life and their efforts had no meaning at all. No wonder many of them feel like: "your home just like a colony".

Definitely not your everyday HC lyric...!

Brandtson – C'mon Fascista Lyrics 19 years ago
Um, I might be completely wrong, but to me these lyrics somehow seem to be about a relationship that has gone stale. About two people who have given up hope for their love, who just resignate and give in to every wrong thing that is happening to them and their love. Just like people in a fascist regime. And that's what I think where the title comes from. But, as I said - I could be TOTALLY wrong here...

Anyway, a great song, probably the best one on their new album!

Matchbook Romance – Your Stories, My Alibis Lyrics 19 years ago
I can relate to this song very much... to me it's about someone who has kinda lost his interest in life, because everything that was once meaningful to him has either gone or has lost its meaning.

Could be a loved person, but could also be a political, religious, or whatever belief that was once highly important to him and somehow constituted his reason to live.

But now this thing is not there for him, anymore, and he has lost his place, his joy, his reason to go on. And he needs something like that, because right now nothing seems to be of any importance whatsoever:

"it hurts me so much
and im not quite sure
i care anymore"

a very sad song, but beautiful...!
