| KoЯn – Freak on a Leash Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Its kinda funny to watch the acoustic video they do with Amy Lee as the backup singer. He skips saying fuck, but she leans her head back so you can barely hear her say it. A strange twist considering she has never used vulgarity in her own songs. | |
| Meat Loaf – In the Land of the Pig, the Butcher Is King Lyrics | 19 years ago |
They're the VICTIMS waiting for their MUGGER Beyond that, very good transcription. Kinda curious who the villain for that musical would have been. |
| Pat Benatar – Heartbreaker Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Checked to be sure on www.benatarfanclub.com, and it is 'the invincible winner' not 'the effects of a winner'. | |
| Meat Loaf – Blind As A Bat Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I'd say that is pretty accurate. He does do a lot of songs with the theme of heaven and hell. | |
| Meat Loaf – It's All Coming Back to Me Now Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Amazing what someone can do with a Celine Dion song, isn't it? I will say though, the duet sounds a lot better than Dion singing it solo. |
| Meat Loaf – Read 'em And Weep Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I must have a totally different version. It is definitely Meat Loaf singing, but the last few verses are nothing like the ones here. | |
| Within Temptation – Destroyed Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Another song about human nature. It is so much easier for us to point the finger than to accept that someone is different. Especially to those people who think all members of a group have to share all the same views. | |
| Within Temptation – Somewhere Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I never thought I would find a band with a better singer than Evanescence. Its a matter of taste, but I prefer Sharon's voice to Amy's. As for the song, I would almost say it parallels the Cold song Rain Song. Both songs seeking the answer to what happened to the loved one its about. |
| Evanescence – Lacrymosa Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The spelling may be referring to something else, as well as the song. From what I have read on the Tool boards, lacrymosa refers to crying as a form of therapy. If that is correct, the song title itself could be a double reference, both to the classical music in the back, and to the tears she has cried. | |
| Evanescence – Where Will You Go? Lyrics | 19 years ago |
One of my favorite lines: I can hear you in a whisper, but you can't even hear me screaming. Kinda reminds me of how different people listen to music. I think of myself as the 'hear you in a whisper' kind of person, truly listening and trying to understand music. Others are the 'can't even hear me screaming' type. Whether hopped up on drugs or only listening because its angry mosh-worthy metal, they can completely miss any meaning the artists intended in the music. For the whole song, I would say it feels like its aimed at people trying to retreat from life, hiding in a set of headphones to avoid reality. Those closest to them want to help them (I can hear you in a whisper), but they refuse to be helped, shutting everyone out (but you can't even hear me screaming). |

| Tool – Rosetta Stoned Lyrics | 19 years ago |
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synchronicity Unless I am misreading it, describes it as a theory by Carl Jung talking about how events can happen by coincidence and have some deep meaning to the person observing them. Like the article above talking about always looking at the clock at 11:11. You wouldn't believe how many times in the last few years, even preceding 9/11, that I would look at a clock at exactly 9:11, either AM or PM. I COULD believe the universe was trying to tell me something, and I do. That it was 11 minutes past 9 o' clock, local time. I am gonna read more on Carl though, to see if its all psychobabble or any semblance of reasonable scientific theory. |
| Tool – The Pot Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| So, would someone tell me what the heck being out of your hair even means? Thus far, the only line that doesn't make sense in the song is the snow the cradle reference, but if you are right then it gets even weirder. | |
| Tool – Rosetta Stoned Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Here is an idea. What if the initial encounter was the real deal, and the subsequent ones were DMT/LSD induced, trying to relive the experience and find the message he had forgotten? | |
| Tool – The Pot Lyrics | 19 years ago |
diamondduker, the man who said to throw away your music if you didn't think drugs had a positive influence was the comedian Bill Hicks. Very controversial material, but agreeable to anyone with an open mind who has ever thought the same. Back to the song and the other posts, this indigo reference is getting deeper and deeper as we go. We had two posts on the possibility of it being a kind of crocodile tears reference, and now we have a reference to a whole new emerging generation with dominantly indigo auras, supposedly destined to reunite the human race. Curse you MJK and your profoundly confusing lyrics! But one of the articles does have a point. All these children being born with the indigo auras getting doped up on ritalin because their parents can't handle them. |

| Tool – 10,000 Days (Wings Pt. 2) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Alright, I have tried both mixes.... and I can't decide which is the proper way. On the one hand, we have 23 leading into Wings. This version syncs up the ending verses nearly perfectly, as if the two singers just have their timing off a bit. On the other hand, we have Wings leading into 23. With this version, as the first 'give me my wings' line is completed, the sounds in 23 that sound like flapping wings start. Also, as he starts the line about cold flourescents, it hits the crackling sounds that are similar to the buzzing of flourescent lights. If I can find a good file sharing server, I will post links so everyone can try them out. |
| Tool – 10,000 Days (Wings Pt. 2) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
cri0626, I much appreciate the link, because I have wanted to do this test myself. But I think the mixing could use some work. Wings for Marie was mixed too quiet, and Viginiti Tres was mixed a bit too loud. I also think that maybe we may have Viginiti and Wings backwards, so I will be trying Wings->Viginiti stacked on 10,000 for my own test. |
| Voltaire – God Thinks Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I think this song sets a record for the number of times god is used in a song. Can anyone help verify this? I counted at least 40 times in this song. | |
| Tool – Right in Two Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It isn't just the physical things we are fighting about. So many posts in so many songs turn into two person flame wars, or religious debates with both sides saying they are wrong. We are even dividing ourselves in two, because of some sick little need to be superior, which you would hope we had learned to abandon by now. |
| Tool – The Pot Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| So between my idea and that one, I think we have those lines nailed down as being a little drama queen, acting all hurt but so easily seen as a fake. | |
| Tool – The Pot Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It is also a sound a lot closer to 'lies' than 'please' OR 'police.' Maybe I am wrong, but I bet there are very few people that pronounce either of those with a clear 'i' sound while singing/yelling. Anyway, decided to look up indigo, trying to find the reason for the reference (last time I checked tears were clear, not blue). Indigo is a dye that is still used, but has almost entirely been replaced by synthetics to create the same color. So the 'chosen indigo' line could be calling the tears fake, saying the person is crying that they are so hurt by the accusations of hypocrisy, when they are really 'eyeball deep in muddy waters' (what makes water brown besides mud? ie, so full of shit). |

| Tool – Vicarious Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I really don't feel like paging through to whoever asked why movies and shows still have happy endings. Simply put, its resolution. Leaving the matter open-ended without that ending leaves people unsatisfied. Its a tried and true formula in Hollywood. I have to agree with that idea of people being vicarious serial killers. Especially considering how popular Saw and other movies like it are. |
| Tool – Vicarious Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I just cannot believe people can get tired of this album. I listen to it an average of 3 times a day since I bought it and I am still not tired of any track except Viginti Tres (spelling? I suck at Latin). And I still think I could get something out of that one if I had some good software to control speed and direction in a song. | |
| Tool – Rosetta Stoned Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song could also be thought of as a protest against those people who miss the bigger picture, possibly because of being caught in the existence mentioned by Vicarious. This man was given a way to save the whole human race, and he forgot the whole thing, being entirely focused on the messenger being an alien. Basically missing the whole point of the encounter. |
| Tool – The Pot Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I am pretty sure after blasting the album 3 times in a row in one night, the line is 'wrapped up in lies', not ganja for life or latch up the lies. The 'snow the cradle' part still has me stumped though. |
| Voltaire – The Last Word Lyrics | 19 years ago |
...in the name of the name in vain? * should be in the name of an enemy. Such a twisted song, but I suppose that is normal for a man who sings songs from the point of view of a brain-eating meteor. |
| Toby Keith – Courtesy of the red, white, and blue (angry american) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Sorry, its bugging me too much. When someone uses big words to sound smart and fails at it, I have to step in. Misogynistic means 'woman hating.' Misanthropic 'should mean 'man hating' but generally has come to mean 'hating people in general.' As for the song, I think the dixie chicks can blow there 'ignorant and racist' comment they made about it out their collective asses. This is a fantastic, heart-felt song, that never once mentions arabs or any single group except the terrorists. And if all the terrorists got was a few less caves to hide in they should count their blessings. The last people who attacked us on our turf got a whole hell of a lot worse. Do Hiroshima and Nagasaki ring any bells? By comparison, we are taking it easy on these freaks. |
| The Chicks – Not Ready To Make Nice Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think it also has to do with one of them saying "Courtesy of The Red, White, and Blue" was ignorant and racist, as well as those 'lovely' "F U T K" shirts they were wearing on tour. Sorry, but in a time if heightened patriotism, its usually not a good move for your career to slam one of the most patriotic and loved songs in the last couple decades. Funny thing: I don't recall CotRWaB ever mentioning race in any way. The whole song is written almost entirely at the terrorists who orchestrated the attacks. I would be looking at the chicks a little closer personally, since they think a song against terrorists is an attack on all arabs. |
| Voltaire – The Man Upstairs Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Maybe heaven has dust bunnies. I couldn't resist. Maybe all the noise could be compared to the various kinds of weather. Thunder being the bowling balls, vacuum being tornados and the like, the leak being rain. |
| Voltaire – BRAINS! Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Sweetbreads and sweetmeats are kind of warped words. The former being brains usually, and the latter being baked goods. I never knew who did the song on the episode, but it certainly explains why I like this guy so much. He has a amazingly warped sense of humor. Like me. |
| Tool – Right in Two Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Thinking about the biblical references, God himself did a lot if dividing at the beginning. Dividing time into night and day, separating the waters below and the waters above, separating the waters below with earth. Then we skip along to the story of the tower of Babel, where he divided the spoken language of the various people to prevent them from working together to finish the tower. Just an observation. |
| Tool – Wings for Marie (Pt. 1) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Sorry, it seems I phrased that poorly. Read it as 'In the song Judith, he questioned his mother's beliefs.' Honestly, I love how Maynard and the gang fuck with people's heads. Giving different meanings for songs at every concert, releasing fake album info, even his April Fools joke about 'finding jesus'. I still laugh about that last one. Even Die Eier Von Satan is a great example of a mind game. |
| Tool – Rosetta Stoned Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Just for the extra trivia bit: Originally, the Rosetta Stone was the first located stone with both Greek and Egyptian writings, allowing for translation of hieroglyphs for the first time. If that has any significance here, I must be missing it, but I thought i would mention it for further discussion. | |
| Tool – 10,000 Days (Wings Pt. 2) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
What gets me the most is not the lyrics. Its this idiotic flame war between Trexor and seemingly the rest of the boards. Tool pulled a hoax, the same one they did years ago, and he fell for it. Its over. We have the album, the 'believers' have been vindicated. So rather than feeding this continuing idiocy, just drop it and focus on the music. As for the song, I was not disappointed. I almost can't separate this track from Wings For Marie, nor should anyone separate them. Its like calling Parabol and Parabola separate songs. Like Lost Keys and Rosetta Stoned as well. |
| Tool – Wings for Marie (Pt. 1) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Personally, I find the embarrassment in sharing common tastes in music with you. You put so much work, quoting over and over again all of those links, and what it comes down to is that Tool did play a hoax. But it was on you. You have to see what an impact his mother had on him, just from the songs. So often he questions her, looking for guidance or just simple answers. He questions her beliefs in Judith, Now questioning what he did to deserve such unwavering love and faith, the very faith he questioned. |
| Voltaire – Almost Human Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Picture it as singing it to humanity, saying he enjoys ruling hell but at the same time is jealous of us being God's new favorite. | |
| Enya – Amarantine Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Sorry, but I think that is kinda obvious. We are talking about Enya here. She has to be, if not the best, then very close to the best female vocalist in the world. | |
| Disturbed – Overburdened Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It helps to get the lyrics right: Hell is still overburdened I must stand and wait in line Hell is still overburdened How have I been so determined malign? I will agree it is very much about soldiers: I was fighting for a reason Holy blessed homicide Seems I have committed treason All I've sacrificed Ask any Vietnam veteran, or any soldier coming back from Iraq now. They left, lauded as heroes. They return, and have people spitting on them insulting them. What must that feel like, to fight for your country, only to have your countrymen turn on you when you return? |
| Nickelback – Savin' Me Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I can't say I agree with the suicide thing. Last few lines of the chorus: Say it to me And I’ll leave this life behind me Say it if it’s worth saving me He may feel he is trapped in the life he has (prison/heaven's gates wont open up for me) and that he needs her to help get away from it, but doesn't know if she even cares. As for the rest, hell yeah. Probably the song I listen to the loudest right now. I love the video too. |
| Fall Out Boy – Sugar, We're Goin Down Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I love how the entire first page of this song is people who can't agree on a single word of the lyrics. Put it this way. The metaphors around it dont make sense. Sometimes the words in a song don't. But there is no such thing as a 'gun complex', while a 'god complex' is a feeling of superiority that overshadows your flaws. So, to me, the song is saying, 'you think your so perfect? give me your best shot, lets see what you can do.' Nice bit of justice in the first verse. He's a notch on the bedpost, but she is nothing to him but a line in a song anymore. |
| Tool – Eulogy Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Someone do us all a favor and delete the Flame War between Lateralus666 and Pariah919. It has nothing to do with the song and everything to do with both of them trying to come in first in a race no one else is running in or even watching. | |
| David Draiman – Forsaken Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| If anyone has watched the original Interview With The Vampire, the song strikes a chord there. One of the last lines is Lestat complaining that Louis is still whining after 200 years. Then the line here 'always whining.' Just a fun little bit of trivia. | |
| Disturbed – Awaken Lyrics | 20 years ago |
What the hell? Who the hell cares if you like Linkin Park on the page for a song by Disturbed? And just FYI, LP is more than one person, and NO ONE in the band is named Linkin Park. Good job emphasizing the growing belief that LP fans are twits. Back to the song, it feels its being sung to someone who tried to hurt him for some petty reason. Now he is telling that person 'okay, you wanna take me on? you gotta drop that crap you are dragging around if you even want a chance at it.' |
| Phil Collins – Separate Lives Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Okay, I am not sure if no one is commenting because the lyrics say it all, or because they have never heard this song. Anyway, I have talked to a lot of friends who have had breakups, and a lot of them say the same thing. The girl who just dumped them expects the relationship to stay close and for them to be best friends. To me, this song is saying what is really in the mind of all those guys. I consider myself pretty forgiving, but I would feel exactly as this song says, that she has no right to act as if nothing is different. |
| Phil Collins – Don't Lose My Number Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Except of course the fact that that particular 'billie' was a woman. To me, its the classic, wrong place wrong time story. | |
| Disturbed – Believe Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Chorus correction: Penance can't absolve your sin Into me, Penance can't absolve your sin All your belief, cannot absolve your sin All your belief, cannot absolve your sin To me, yes this song is about hypocrisy. Go to church a few hours a day on whatever day you choose, and you are miraculously forgiven all the sins of the week before? I don't think so. Or, for Catholicism (biggest bunch of hypocrites I know, short of politicians): Commit adultery, okay, just say five Our Fathers and five Hail Marys and all is forgiven. I'm sorry, but if you truly believe something is a sin and want to repent, it should be a lot more than repeating a mantra a few times. Fun Trivia: The inverted cross, adopted by satanists as their symbol, had nothing to do with the opposition to God originally. The original inverted cross was a man who saw and revered the sacrifice Christ made, and insisted on being crucified in that fashion, placing him below the man who would take the sins of the world onto his own shoulders. I will not say if he was the Messiah or not, but he was an example that more people should follow, if we want any chance of redemption. Just a friendly message tbrought to you from someone whose motto is 'believe in the God, not the church.' |
| Disturbed – Sons of Plunder Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I did just as you said Blank Canvas. On the album cover, every other lyric page, and every mp3 site I have checked, it is "Sons of Plunder". Hell genius, listen to the damn song. That should tell you its sons of plunder right there. Check your info before you start calling others fools. | |
| Disturbed – Conflict Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Does anyone else find it freaking hilarious that the guy with the name TOOLAPC (two bands that generally speak out against assholes and dipshits) would post an all-caps flame of another member, rather than comment on the song? Anyway, I wasn't really a Disturbed fan for a while, at least until Believe and Ten Thousand Fists. Now that I have heard this song, it is in my playlist for just rocking out. I can see the good vs evil interpretation, but I have to lean toward the war one. |
| Disturbed – Shout 2000 (Tears for Fears cover) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| One of two great covers this band has done. The newest being Land of Confusion from Ten Thousand Fists. I agree, the Tears For Fears version sounded so damn weak. | |
| Scott Stapp – The Great Divide Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Not to be overly cynical, but isn't that what most of his songs are about? | |
| Staind – Right Here Lyrics | 20 years ago |
'But just give me a breaking' should be 'But just give me a break and', but beyond that, the lyrics are transcribed pretty well. Here we have the song that made me buy Chapter V. And that is saying a lot, since I usually hate to buy an album for one song. I have not been disappointed with it. All of the songs are good, but it doesn't quite compete with Ten Thousand Fists from Disturbed. Both good albums, but Disturbed provided a much better album. |
