Believe, when you lie
You will never need to recognize yourself
To deceive
To remove all chance of doubt and be received
With your lie
The deception is complete when you concede
And decide
To reject your lives, sacrificed to me
Penance can't absolve your sin, into me
Penance can't absolve your sin
All your belief cannot absolve your sin [x2]
Believe, when you lie
You will never need to recognize the source
Of deceit
To renew your faith in God
You must believe, in your lie
The redemption is complete when you conceive
And decline
To release your lives
Sacrificed to me
Penance can't absolve your sin, into me
Penance can't absolve your sin
All your belief cannot absolve your sin [x2]
Reap your life, like you want to recognize, all you've come to [x2]
Reap your life
Veiled in shadow
Recognize
Faces of the crucified
I can hear their screams tonight
Ever haunting me
Burn your lie into me
Penance can't absolve your sin, into me
Penance can't absolve your sin
All your belief cannot absolve your sin [x4]
You will never need to recognize yourself
To deceive
To remove all chance of doubt and be received
With your lie
The deception is complete when you concede
And decide
To reject your lives, sacrificed to me
Penance can't absolve your sin

I think what he's talking about is all those people that claim to be faithful but continue to do wrong in spite of their religion.
What point are you two trying to make? Where did being hypocrites come into this song? It doesn't. It's not a fact that people who believe in god are hypocrites. Most religious people on the other hand can be.
I'm not sure what the the song as a whole means, but the chorus is about eeyore1883 said, "Just because you claim to believe in a higher power and claim that you're a follower, it doesn't mean all the wrong you've done in life is wiped clean."
The meaning I get out of this song can be summed up with one bible verse: Faith without works is dead.
I'd like to start of by saying that of all the concerts I've been 2...DISTURBED KICKS ASS, BEST CONCERT! David knows how to work the crowd and dan, mike, and fuzz all have their own little parts, DISTURBED FUCKIN KICKS ASS! And I donno if any1's taken the time to realize it but the believe symbol consists of the cross for christianity and catholicism, the penacle for something...the star of david for judaism, and the crescent moon for islam. its a worldwide unity of faiths, not just one. but this song kicks ass, i donno what it is about it, but it contains my favorite part of any part on the believe album..."Faces of the crucified, I can hear their screams tonight, ever haunting me..." I LOVE THAT PART...KEEP BELIEVING IN DISTURBED! THEY KICK ASS!
Good point, in one of their songs (cant remember which one) they mention 4 men from 4 different religions uniting under one cause. Just so you know tho, the pentacle represents the 5 stages of life (birth, adolescence, coitus, parenthood and death) and the elements that rule them (Earth, Air, Fire, Water and spirit. It has been the most commonly used symbol in many religions including christianity, where it represents the 5 wounds of christ. blessed be

"To renew your faith in God You must believe in your lie"
This seems anti christian to me. To be forgived of your sins, you must believe in your lie (religion). David is implying that your religion is a lie.
Simply this,... Using religion of any kind to absolve yourself of wrongdoing is a cop out. No matter what your faith, you are solely responsible for your actions. Period.
Another good song...by Disturbed...I like the lyrics in this song a lot, don't know why? But I do!!
Is this song pro christian or anti christian?
Is this song pro christian or anti christian?
In my opinion and my connection to the song about religion and how it's just pushed onto other people (especially with Christianity) and when one commits their life to a religion they get farther from finding the one true god...themselves.
