The killer awoke before dawn - the awakening of the awareness which will begin the practice and 'kill' the materialist mind. Dawn would be the beginning of liberation. He then takes the left hand path by killing the father (rejecting the right) and having sex with the mother (uniting the energy with the left hand channel through the spine).
