Love Shines (A Song for My Daughters About God) Lyrics
On a crystal clear blue morning
There is a peace that only you can know
It is truth and love and it is always there
Even if you fall down
Even if you fall down
Love shines
Oh, it shines
Like an eternal sun, it shines
Oh, love shines
Like an eternal sun, it shines
Think of gentle Jesus
Think of the buddha underneath his tree
They taught the world about love and how we all can be
How we can all be free
Open our hearts and see
Love shines
Oh, it shines
Like an eternal sun, it shines
Oh, love shines
Like an eternal sun, it shines
Oh, it shines
Like an eternal sun, love shines
It shines
Like a revolution in your mind
Like a revolution in your mind
Like a revolution in your mind
On a crystal clear blue morning
There is a peace that only you can know
It is truth and love and it is always there
Even if you fall down
Even if you fall down
Love shines
Oh, it shines
Like an eternal sun, it shines
Oh, love shines
Like an eternal sun, it shines
Oh, it shines, baby
Like an eternal sun, love shines
It shines, shines, shines, shines, shines
Love, it shines, shines, shines, shines, shines
Love, it shines, shines, shines, shines, shines
Love shines
There is a peace that only you can know
It is truth and love and it is always there
Even if you fall down
Even if you fall down
Love shines
Like an eternal sun, it shines
Oh, love shines
Like an eternal sun, it shines
Think of the buddha underneath his tree
They taught the world about love and how we all can be
How we can all be free
Open our hearts and see
Love shines
Like an eternal sun, it shines
Oh, love shines
Like an eternal sun, it shines
Oh, it shines
Like an eternal sun, love shines
Like a revolution in your mind
Like a revolution in your mind
Like a revolution in your mind
There is a peace that only you can know
It is truth and love and it is always there
Even if you fall down
Even if you fall down
Love shines
Like an eternal sun, it shines
Oh, love shines
Like an eternal sun, it shines
Oh, it shines, baby
Like an eternal sun, love shines
Love, it shines, shines, shines, shines, shines
Love, it shines, shines, shines, shines, shines
Love shines

The title says it all: this song is about God, and God is love, and God's love is evident....
Yes, this song is Ed's simple way of expressing faith and spirituality. The lyrics echo his sentiments in his earlier song "Heaven," where he sings "I don't need no proof when it comes to God and truth..." The only thing that bothers me is that the Buddha didn't really teach the "world about love" in the same way that Jesus did. The Buddhist approach to freedom of the heart is radically different than the Christian approach and this song seems to muddle the two philosophies. But not really... still a great song that affirms the value of spirituality

Live often home very close to the Truth, and this is one of those times. This is a great song about God, who is Love. I agree with the earlier comments though, that I don't think Love was part of Buddha's teachings; but I wonder also if Ed included him to prevent this from being taken purely in a Christian context.. However I think it lends itself much more to that than anything else. The Buddha, if I am not mistaken, focused more of eliminating desire, because he thought it was bad. Christ however affirmed that desires can be good, but we must deny them when they conflict with the laws established by God; and instead turn our focus to loving others before ourselves. In this way we can be free; free to choose when it is good, and not choose when it is bad.
If anyone is more familiar with Buddha's teachings, as I don't know much, please correct me if I have something wrong. So far as I understand many aspects of Buddha's teachings are compatible or within Christ's.

I am a Tibetan Buddhist....The Buddha taught about love, very much so. "Metta" - or loving-kindness, is a cornerstone of his teachings. The Buddha's life, life events, and teachings are remarkably similar to those of Jesus'. To me, they're very much like spiritual brothers. :)
