He says "and in this life you'll long to flee. Its about someone close to him (likely siamese twin sister Lavera separated at birth) her losing faith and calling it quits on life. He won't give up though on her or his own life...won't fold. Saffron, Faith and Useless Crown of Flesh bother me because I'm afraid Cedric is may be a faithful Christian which I would be very disappointed seeing as god is an invention of human psychology and religion a cash gimmick. I personally interpret the song as a man cutting lose of his former young self that 'believed' and him saying he won't fold means, he let fantasy dissuade him from reason and scrutiny, that his sister is the faithful one who has lost sanity. |

No one has thoughts about what it all means? Seriously, it epic like many others, like Cassandra Gemini. Its about a boys emotionality being ruined in a nightmarish childhood and evil woman, his mother. He is scarred beyond repair into adulthood where Dasehra is his only solace as long as he is injured, as long as he remembers, till absentia. They've stolen his love because he means to say it never existed (Buried In Absentia) Was Absent, he partially loved the bitch that tormented him that's why it was so hard. Ive never heard Cedric comment on this but he did say the The Whip Hand is about abuse and that the album is about a dysfunctional family (home life was a ZOO) Apparently, Dasehra is a Hindu festival symbolizing the triumph of good over evil, celebrated for ten days in October. I fucking love Mars Volta, too bad Omar gave it up so people can't sing over his guitar....lol...j/k Im thankful for the several albums we got, especially this one to seal it. |

Only having heard it several times and reading the lyrics a few times I can say that YES, this song is awesome as usual with The Mars Volta. I definitely feel this song is very negative towards a woman, not a man. He isn't the bad one. She is a whore who paraded her body, she has no light in her furthest reaches, she was casually raped for her promiscuity late at night after stripping, she had an abortion and or birthed at night on the street with people watching. She is vile. The man regrets being tangled with this minx, that his seed was deformed and slaughtered. |
