| Ani DiFranco – Both Hands Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
This is, by far, my favorite song, of all time. The lyrics are just so beautiful, tender and relatable. Ani's brilliant song-writing skills paint the picture, of this particular relationship situation, flawlessly. From a personal standpoint, I can really "feel" what the lyrics are saying - all the turmoil & contradictory emotions that being in love tends to invoke within someone, It is a testimony to Ani's incredible talent as a lyricist, that she can portray a quite mundane situation like this (relationships, break-ups) in such a deep, powerful, poetic and emotionally relevant fashion. This is my very favorite song; I listen to it non-stop, and it tends to move me to tears, I "feel" it so greatly. Ani DiFranco is a really amazing artist, and she is such a breath of fresh air, in the midst of all the mundane, unoriginal music out there. She is my goddess :) |

| Radiohead – Fake Plastic Trees Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| This is my all-time favorite song!!! I find it to be soooo beautiful, whimsical and deep. I think the meaning can be correctly interpreted in many different ways. To me, it's about wanting some sort of stable "perfection" and doing everything to maintain it, even by means of plastic surgery, "but gravity always wins." We all grow old and die. Love that seems like it can go on forever, often doesn't. Without flaws and imperfection, everything would be fake, shiny, boring and predictable - like plastic. To me, the song is about how absolute perfection doesn't exist - and that perhaps it's a good thing it does't, for we don't want to live in "a fake, plastic earth.." | |

| A Correction: I obviously meant "HAND me over" not "had me over". Sorry about that. | |
| Björk – Pagan Poetry Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
I'm a Huge Bjork fan, she is one of my all-time favorite artists. This is prob. my favorite song by her and just may be my fav song of all time. I think it's about inner feelings, forbidden love, the darkness within our souls. And, ultimately about freeing ourselves from the darkness in our hearts and the negative influences of other individuals. Obviously, she loves this man very much but she is "not going to had me (herself) over" even though her love for him makes her want to do that. She's letting-go of the situation, allowing him to be with the other woman who loves him, and freeing herself an unhealthy relationship as well as the darkness within herself that the situation with him indirectly brought out in her. I think this song has many layers of meaning - but, in the end, it's simply "Pagan Poetry", whatever that means to you. I'm a Goddess-centered, Nature-centered Pagan myself and so this song holds a special meaning to me. Such a Beautiful song, My Favorite. |

| Björk – Moon Lyrics | 11 years ago |

This is one of my favorite Bjork songs. Bjork is one of my favorite artists, she's amazing. I think the message of this song is both complex and simple, at the same time. "To risk all is to end all and the beginning of all." To begin anew, you must be willing to take risks and embrace the possibility of failure. Because by encountering loss and failure and feeing as though you'd lost everything, you just may have actually opened the door for something even better to come through. Or - if you can be happy and content with nothing or little, it's the deepest kind of happiness because it cannot be taken away from you. Sort of like the Tao Te Ching saying - "If you want to be given everything, give everything up." Great Song! |

| Björk – Solstice Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
I LOVE this song, it is one of my all-time favorite songs, Bjork is one of my favorite artists, she's amazing. My interpretation is that it's about the Winter Solstice and the changes regarding day/night light/dark that occur during that time, It's about how we're all connected through the earth, like the way a beating heart is interconnected with all the other bodily organs. And how, because of this oneness and interconnectedness, you can hold a pearl in the palm of your hand, and really be holding the whole earth in your hand. And the whole universe is within you - "you are a light-bearer, receiving radiance from others." The universe within you shines outwardly, if you allow your inner light to flow outward. And you can connect with other human beings and creatures, receiving there inner light, and cultivating the oneness of life, the earth, the universe, the light and the dark. That's my 2 cents, anyway. I LOVE this song. It may be my favorite ever. |

| Kacey Musgraves – Follow Your Arrow Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I Really Love this Song! In fact, it's one of my favorite songs. I Love the message of it - Be who you are, love who you love. And don't make what other people think of you such a priority because you are "damned if you do and damned if you don't." Also - don't take life overly seriously. Take time to just chill-out and follow wherever your heart leads you. Aka "follow your arrow, wherever it points." This song means so much to me and I Love Kacey and her whole album. Taylor Swift may just have to share the the throne for Country Queen very soon! | |
| Neko Case – Afraid Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
Neko Case is one of my favorite artists, and this is one of my all-time favorite songs. Prob. my favorite song on the album (either this or "Man") . It's such a beautiful and tender song, and Neko's vocals are so wonderful and haunting. My personal interpretation of the song's meaning is that so often we identify with other peoples' opinions of how we should live our lives and who we should be. But, in reality, we're beautiful just as we are, and we are all unique and so often we don't see the beauty in others because we're all caught in our own uniqueness. And we can only see another person or situation stemming from that unique, individual point-of-view. "You are beautiful and you are alone" means that we're all genuinely perfect in our deepest essence, we just don't feel that way when we compare ourselves to others. "Confuse your hunger, capture the fake" is when we interpret our hunger for meaning/connection in our lives by thinking we need to be/live like other people. Therefore losing sight of our beautiful uniqueness and genuine individuality. "Banish the faceless, reward your grace" is when we stop caring what people think (not even just people we personally have met, but collective mankind, hence "faceless") and settle into our true perfection and grace. That's how I personally interpret the song. It's such a great song about staying true to your unique colors and not being "afraid" to be your own beautiful self. I Love this song....one of my favorites. |

| Ani DiFranco – In the Margins Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
I just recently heard this song. I Love Ani Difranco, but never heard this one previously. It is SUCH a beautiful song.......one of my all-time favorite songs, for sure. I think the message of it is something like: Our lives can be very painful and sometimes seem meaningless, but all we have is the moment. If we are open to the moment, we'll see and experience beauty and meaning (to me, that's what the bird represents.) If we're always caught up in thinking about the past/future, we miss the innocence and power of the moment. We need to be mindful and clear-eyed to really experience life and love in it's fullest colors. It's an Amazing song by an Amazing artist. Ani DiFranco is my favorite artist - her music has changed my life for the better and helped me through some difficult times. |

| Cat Power – The Moon Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| One of my favorite Cat Power songs. Many people find it to be morbid and depressing. I don't, personally. I think the "moon" represents that which is divine or sacred to someone. And how that, even though we're all eventually going to die and lose everything, that which is sacred/divine to someone always perseveres and is beyond the cycles of birth and death. Kind of like a connection between the cycles of the moon and the cycles of life and death. That's my 2 cents, anyway. Beautiful Song. | |
| Neko Case – Prison Girls Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Very Beautiful Song.....one of Neko's best. I'm not sure what the exact meaning(s) is, but the imagery and use of phrases are very powerful. Neko is a brilliant song-writer. This song is dark but wonderful, like many of her songs. | |
| Neko Case – Man Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| This is prob. my all-time favorite song. Neko Case is one of my very favorite singer-songwriters, and this song is her at her very best. It's such a unique, creative, and powerful song. I'm in awe of it whenever I listen to it! It has a powerful message: Regardless of our individual gender, sexual orientation, race, etc. we're all members of MANKIND and are all connected to each other through that. Neko Case may be a straight female in social terms, but she FEELS like she's a man and who's to say she isn't? Gender identity is far more than one's genitals or sexual orientation. And we're all part of MANKIND and so our lives and bodies are interconnected in more ways than we realize anyway. That's my 2 cents on this song's interpretation. Brilliant Song! My Favorite. | |
