Vance Joy – Riptide Lyrics 10 years ago
I agree with what people say about it being a break up song but he also comes across as quite an awkward/unsuccessful guy which is something I can relate to. The whole song makes much more sense with the music video as it is very literal. He lists his fears that he used to have(dentists, the dark, pretty girls, making conversation) so I guess that over the relationship some of those have dissapeared with experience and confidence and he is now more prepared to commit to her than before. "All my friends are turning green" implies his friends are making money and highlights his insecurity as he only seems to have her. The last thing I found was that he refers to himself as her 'left hand man'. The commonly used phrase is right hand man but he chooses left to show his awkwardness and I know as a left hander myself that we are pretty awkward!

Biffy Clyro – Biblical Lyrics 10 years ago
Not entirely sure what is exactly about however I have a feeling it is something to do with the relationship between Simon and his wife which tends to be the case with quite a few of their songs

Theme Park – Two Hours Lyrics 10 years ago
I think this song is about being in the middle of a relationship with someone and they're questioning whether they still feel the same love for their partner as they used to.The first verse talks about how he expected love to feel when he got older that he'd feel it all the time such as in ordinary places like the night bus or on the dance floor-maybe talking about a relationship taking place during university years or after. The second verse is talking about the love he used to feel for someone when he was younger (maybe the same person but it's not clear) and he seems to be looking back longing for that kind of love rather than his current situation. The chorus is a plea to the other person (Can You Feel Anything?) asking whether they feel any love and he admits that he 'can't feel anything' and it's 'bringing him down' so maybe he's thinking of ending the relationship. Although the lyrics are quite sad it is a very nice bouncy song from Theme Park and is very catchy

Dog Is Dead – Young Lyrics 10 years ago
Having listened to it many times at their gigs I'd say the song is simply reminiscing back to childhood days and events that happened when they were younger and more care free

Dog Is Dead – Talent show Lyrics 10 years ago
I think this song represents the idea of a band becoming famous and someone close to the band not being able to handle the sudden change in their fortunes and lifestyle. The singer is apologising to this loved one whether it be a girlfriend or other lover saying that he has changed with the fame and success he has gained through the band ('And you need to understand, I'm a brand new man and I played the cards the best I can' although he never intended it to be that way ('It could've been easy'). The singer feels some regret in how their relationship has changed due to his new found success hence the lyric- "Can't stop what I started
And I'm never gonna forget it
I took the pill took the poison
I'm forever gonna regret it" and maybe the mentioning of pills is something to do with a battle with drugs or the feeling of being pressure into taking drugs, something I'm sure many musicians who become famous experience at some point. The song title- Talent Show is a reference to when Dog Is Dead first played together at their school talent show and perhaps this means the song is actually about the band itself. I absolutely love this song and think it's absolutely beautiful to listen to. Everytime I've met the band I've pestered them to play it live however they have persisted everytime I've ask them

Haim – The Wire Lyrics 10 years ago
I think this a fairly straight forward song about commitment issues. It's about how the writer of the song struggles to keep a relationship going once things get serious as maybe they love the power of dumping someone or just struggle with the concept of commitment to one person. The music video supports this theory as all three are shown finishing relationships with their respective partners. I love this song I just think their voices just ooze sexiness especially Danielle's

Lucy Rose – Middle of the Bed Lyrics 10 years ago
I think this song is about a relationship where two lovers have decided to go their separate ways but everyone seems to think she's not over him yet and she isn't sure either. Both are also confused by the new status of their relationship and how they should behave around each other ('you don't know, is it fine to hold my hand?') and the song is her thinking about whether she wants to get back with him or vice versa ('Do you really want me back?') or not at all. The idea of being in the middle of the bed is a symbol of her new found singularity as she can now sleep in the middle of the bed cos she's not sharing it with him. The 'If you knew me at all, You should all know my answers' bit is her saying that he should know how she feels and maybe she has decided she wants to get back with him. The Chorus is the idea that although she's trying to deny it she knows that she'll never truly be over him which is portrayed beautifully through the 'these wounds, they won't heal' line. Absolutely love this song, great meaning behind it and Lucy sings it so well. She is perfect :')

Jake Bugg – Lightning Bolt Lyrics 10 years ago
I think it's just a song about taking chances when they come along and being optimistic hence the 'gritted teeth' line. The idea of living life, making mistake and not thinking too much, very inspiring

San Cisco – Fred Astaire Lyrics 10 years ago
I would say having listened to this song several times in the last few days (I'm slightly obsessed with it,lol) that it is a song about a guy feeling inadequate and not good enough for his current or most recent partner/girlfriend and he's resigned to losing her to another man. The name, Fred Astaire, is used in the song as a sensationalised idea of a perfect man to get across the idea that this other man is much richer, better looking, more sensitive and more talented than him and it's as if he's almost advertising this man so that he can have some kind of closure about losing the girl knowing she'll be happier with him. Probably my favourite song this summer, was great to finally see them live at Leeds festival a few weeks ago :)

Alex Clare – Hands Are Clever Lyrics 10 years ago
I think it's simply a song about trying to woo a girl on a night out. This is given off by the funky dance style rhythm to the song and the use of a horn section gives it a sort of Stevie Wonder vibe to it

alt-J – Dissolve Me Lyrics 10 years ago
I think the song is all about trying to fall asleep and to forget hence the two tabs (sleeping pills) on my tongue bit and the thing Joe says his mother used to do to help him sleep. Maybe the person is having trouble sleeping and longs for his Mother to be there to make the sounds of the sea
