XTC – Dear God Lyrics 12 years ago
Sam, when I stopped believing in God, I gave one last prayer to show to myself that I can conquer my fear of punishment by God. I wouldn't really say this song is ironic because of that.

Come to think of it, I guess it could be either.

Not sure where I took this from, but I think I read it somewhere.

Barenaked Ladies – The King Of Bedside Manor Lyrics 12 years ago
Obviously about a man who was once a ladies man, but is no longer one at all. However, he still acts like one, making a fool of himself.

"But I couldn't help but notice that riding crop
Sticking out of your haversack,
Um, I wouldn't mind riding you bareback."

This line is hilarious. It's like a filthier Costello lyric. Gordon was full of Costello-esque lyrics. Too bad BNL turned into MOR pop shit.

Coil – Cathedral in Flames Lyrics 13 years ago
It's about torture and isolation. Taking influence from The 120 Days of Sodom, the song is about a group of youth locked away and sexually tortured. In their isolation, they are oblivious to what is happening in the outside world, but one day, one of them catches a glimpse outside where they're being held, and they see a cathedral in flames, signalling the apocalypse.

Ween – Sky Cruiser Lyrics 13 years ago
Probably about drugs. I think the sun meaning would be a bit too obvious, considering they mention sunshine in the lyrics.

Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 – The Operation Lyrics 13 years ago
I think it is about extreme paranoia and anxiety that occurs under anesthesia during an operation.

Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 – Cup of Dreams Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this song is basically "Noble Experiment" but from the viewpoint of the people who are ruining the Earth. They are oblivious to the apocalypse that awaits them, and focus their time on cleansing trivial things and not the planet that is dying for them.

Yup. He said so on his askdeaner website. Lots of great things there.

That is fucking creepy. You're sick. It's about the bong on the cover of The Pod.

Ween – Tender Situation Lyrics 13 years ago
I think a "tender situation" is a time when you simply stop for a moment and think about your life. What you've done so far, and what you'll do in the future.

Swans – Out Lyrics 13 years ago
One of the most beautiful tracks on The Great Annihilator. I believe the album is a concept album about the apocalypse, and that this represents the universe after all has ended, and is resting in an embryonic state not unlike how it began.

Ween – Mourning Glory Lyrics 13 years ago
I believe this song is about culture and how people ridicule what is not familiar to them. The part about "He doesn't shoot smack" is talking about how the pumpkins don't understand why this guy is abusing their beliefs. Say I'm looking too far into it, but Ween themselves have even said there is a deep meaning behind the HIV Song. They've said it is about how people think of AIDS as something trivial they don't need to worry about.

Swans – (She's a) Universal Emptiness Lyrics 13 years ago
I disagree with the comment below. This is one of my personal favorite Swans songs. I love Michael's delivery here. I think this one is about a woman with no faith in anything, and is simply negative to all. This is a pretty weird song, since the lyrics seem sort of Christian, but Swans are not a Christian band. A spiritual band, but not Christian.

King Missile – Happy Hour Lyrics 13 years ago
Very powerful song. In an interview with Mark Prindle, John S. Hall was discussing the various topics in his songs, and when he mentioned putting up with what you're given in life, he mentioned "Happy Hour". I think the song is just about how no matter what happens to you in your life or what limits you, you always have memories and the peace of your mind.

Swans – Freak Lyrics 13 years ago
I think it's about desensitization of the mind. The narrator is attempting to convince someone that they are weak, and need to be violent to succeed. The lines about "big erection in your hand" are supposed to ridicule the person and show how pitiful they are.

Swans – Thank You Lyrics 13 years ago
Mikey G himself has mentioned in interviews how "Reeling the Liars In" is about how much he hates liars, so I imagine this song is about interrogation and demanding the truth. I don't know how the title relates.
