| Against Me! – Spanish Moss Lyrics | 13 years ago |

By far my favorite song from this album! This is a very personal song that talks about the need for someone to find and be themselves. However, taking a step further it also says there is no need to be ashamed of who you might be. I believe the referece to Spanish moss is a metaphore for the web of life and all the difficulties that life can bring. However, when you find that place where you can be yourself, the moss dissappears - "Can be so easily forgotten" The final reference in the song is the lyrics that make reference to the structure of the world around us: "In a world run by gangs Just you stuck standing in a bread line" The "gangs" are a metaphore for the government or perhaps society as a whole and we are simply following what is expected of us "Standing in a bread line" Given Tom's announcement about his sex change, I'm sure this is a personal dialog about him trying to find out who he is and how he will exist in this world when the news get's out. He's struggling with his inner self while trying to fit into the expectations of society, giving this song an entire new meaning considering the change. |

| Shiny Toy Guns – Carrie Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| This song is about the miscommunication when Cara Fay left the band. Watching Cara and Chad perfom this onstage it was obvious that this is very personal and I suspect Cara left because of a rift between the two of them. The band said this was a song they wrote early after they reunited so I also suspect it was part of the healing that took place when Cara returned. | |
