For the benefit of others on this board who might be interested (since no ones really gone into it). Ayn Rand is an uber-capitalist person, her philosophy is called objectivism (look it up) The novella Anthem (which this song kind of reminds me of), is a quasi sci-fi story set far in the future, where people have lost all individuality, and function in a 'hive' type society. The story details the adventures of a clever person in the society who discovered individuality and proceeds to free himself (and his girl friend) from the society. They leave and found their own society and amoung other things give themselves names (since people in this weird collective society don't have names). I recommend every one reads this book, it's a mear 80 pages or so, and sheds light on a different way of thinking than you might be use to. Mind you, it will probably make you very angry, especially towards the end. This is the only Postal Service song I like due to the clever lyrics, the rest of their stuff is electronic crap (you need REAL instruments to be a musician people!) |

| Hot Hot Heat – Tourist in Your Own Town Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Hot Hot Heat are from Victoria, BC in Canada. Victoria is a touristy town with several cheesy attrations such as the Wax Museum, the Undersea Gardens (exlore a coral reef 3 m under the water in our inner harbor!) and Miniture World. Every year around March, there is a week long event called "Be A Tourist in Your Own Town" in which these attractions allow locals in for a reduced rate. This is where I believe Hot Hot Heat got the song title from. | |
| The Weakerthans – Psalm For The Elks Lodge Last Call Lyrics | 21 years ago |

"Let our talk about the ballgame and the weather show we care, like a sound we didn't notice until it stopped and left us there " It's really amazing how Sampson uses metaphores like this that relate to a universal experience that most of us never think twice about. |

I'm surprised this song never struck anyone as worthy of a comment. Not only are the lyrics fabulous; they for a shakespearean sonnet.... This song is one of three musically related songs: Hospital Vesters and Past-Due are the others. I like the line If "if near is just as far away as far"... I know what the guy means, it's about people being distant from one another emotionally, so it doesnt matter where they are... I have been in that sort of relationship before. |

| The Weakerthans – Left and Leaving Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I have to disagree with most everyone here. This song is not about a girl. The song is about his uncle/father/grandfather or something along those lines. This is especially aparent in lyrics like: "Duct tape and soldered wire..." typical things left after a male parent dies away, they're projects and quick fixes left behind. Very Canadian. | |
