@[MuddyMae:34955] "Dry" owes The Breeders a lot, just listen to "Happy and Bleeding" or "Plants and Rags". Never noticed the similar melody in "Fountain" but you must be right |

Maybe it really is about drugs, I don't know, but because of its religious imagery and the motif of disillusionment and/or devastation ("I cross myself, it doesn't help..." etc.) it seems to me that this song is somehow connected with "(I Got a) Catholic Block". |

I like how she reworked this song.
Especially these lyrics:
"The fact that you're insane
Only proves that you're my best friend
And I will never fuck anyone else again"
- simply awesome.
And don't forget that I'm a huge Velvet Underground fan and I hate bad VU covers ;-) |

| Siouxsie and the Banshees – Happy House Lyrics

I always thought that this song is about escapism, about people, who prefer to "pretend that there is no hell", "keeping themselves doped with religion and sex and TV", 'cause thay don't want to see the truth. "It's safe and calm if you sing along", close your eyes, stop thinking. They are afraid of reality, afraid of everything "extraordinary", so they won't let you into their happy little world if you are seem not to be like others, but if you'll reject your personality and say "yes", they will be happy to see you in the Happy House. |

"In the first two verses there's no topic whatsoever; all this is just a rhyme structured AABCBDD. It's all very automatic. The rest is about Arizona. There's a very famous cliff dwelling there, with two or three storey houses about a mile up inside these cliffs. It's about 900 years old and you can still see the handprints from the people who pressed the plaster onto the walls. And you can take your hand and place it in the print and it's very wooh." - Black Francis in the NME, April 1989.

| Television – Venus de Milo Lyrics

"And I fell right into the arms of Venus de Milo" - haha, you know, this reminds me of a poem written by some famous Russian poet in the beginning of XX century (it seems to me that it was L. Gumilev). It was about "the smile of Nike of Samothrace" - you know, actually the statue of Nike (Victory) has no head, as Venus de Milo has no arms. But I don't think Tom Verlain could ever read this poem (but who knows?)
I think, this song is about drugs and some kind of psychedelic experience which makes this guy understand that while he thought that Venus wouldn't let him fall, he actually fell into nothing - Venus has no arms, and she can't help him anyway. |

sorry, I missed a line:
"Dash and Lily
No longer remember
Meet Norah and Nick Charles
Dash and Lily
Dash and Lily, ummm
And Lilian said,
When I first went out to Hollywood
One heard talk from writers about whoring
But you are not tempted to whore
Unless you want to be a whore
And I don't want to be a whore
That's why, Lilian said,
When I first went to Hollywood
ONE HEARD TALK FROM WRITERS ABOUT WHORING *missed line*
But you are not tempted to whore
Unless you want to be a whore
And I don't want to be a whore
Oh no I don't want to be a whore"
