Elegie Lyrics

I just don't know what to do tonight,
My head is aching as I drink and breathe
Memory falls like cream in my bones, moving on my own.

There must be something I can dream tonight,
The air is filled with the moves of you,
All the fire is frozen yet still I have the will, ooh, ah.

Trumpets, violins, I hear them in the distance
And my skin emits a ray, but I think it's sad, it's much too bad
That our friends can't be with us today

a genius.she mourns the death of a friend and swirls such irony that she is living a life that is dead and sombre.people she loved are gone and she is alone.there is a hopelessness circling the protagonist. all she posses our memories.there are not enough comments on this genius poet how vulgar.

i agree, there should be more comments on her. all her lyrics have some deeper meaning.

i think this is dedicated to, in particular, Arthur Rimbaud, among others. possibly Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix as she highly admired them all.

She quotes Jimi Hendrix in the last 2 lines. But is the song about Jimi Hendrix?

Yes, it is. Original title of this song was "Elegie (To Jimi Hendrix)". Patti Smith Group recorded it in Electric Lady Studios on September 18th, the anniversary of Hendrix's death.
