| i think this song must be about someone he knew. there are some parts, such as "Any job with a helmet in case of a drop" (which seems to be a reference to epilepsy) that characterize the person as if it was a real person he knew. anyway, the song is obviously about someone who didn't care enough to make a difference or change in society, and just floated through life without opinions. they weren't satisfied with the way things were, but they didn't know how to or care enough to contribute to a change. | |

| i had a different interpretation of him calling her a "skeleton key". I think he was saying she was nothing special, a skeleton key (can fit into any door, basically saying she's a slut), as emotional abuse to her. Because she cheated on her last man with him, he can't trust her, and accuses her of being unfaithful, nothing special, etc. When he says "my dire affliction I'll attribute to you" he's admitting that he's blaming his insecurity and jealous on her. He says "don't call me that (I'm assuming "baby" or some other boyfriend-ish term), don't say you love me cos you know it aint true" because he can't accept her love because of his insecurity, so he just tries to make her feel bad and claims his issues are her fault. The only part I'm unsure of the meaning is the "you gotta let me know" part. | |

At the beginning it is from his perspective of being taken for granted, and as the song progresses it becomes about a lot of issues involving religion, from those turning their back on good and living "sinful" lives, to those killing in the name of what they believe is "right" (religious martyrdom). | i agree with ziggy. this song is about someone who is shy. he is "a thinker, not a talker", so social interactions are difficult for him (as mentioned with his neighbor). i think the line "while the light that shines above the grocer's store investigates my face so rudely" could be about a number of things. it could be about him being kept awake by his thoughts at night, but blaming it on the light keeping him awake (although thats a bit of a stretch). it could also be about feeling self-conscious. to whoever thought feeling invisible and being self-conscious is a contradiction....you've clearly never experienced shyness. when you have social anxiety, it's easy to feel both invisible (do to your inability to make friends) and judged (which is the reason for the anxiety in the first place). by the way i don't think it's raining outside...i think the rain is always referring to his tears. and yeah, he jumps off the bridge at the end. really, really, sad song. | |

i agree with this, definitely. i think the line "I'm not being cruel but your brain never ruled. I've seen the trauma of lives that were squandered but I'm not to blame for showing restraint." Is his own doubt, while he's talking to himself. "your brain never ruled" is him telling himself he doesn't have control over it. The second part is pretty self explanatory, he's talking about the fucked up things that have happened to people because of heroin, which he has witnessed and experienced first-hand. I think maybe when he says "i'm not to blame for showing restraint" he's talking about not being there for friends who were deep into it, or maybe who died because of it, because he was trying to save himself and not get involved in the scene again. |

| i got a very different interpretation than what most people said. i don't think this song is necessarily about death. i think it's about the inevitability of losing people, and relationships ending. i think this person has been betrayed a lot by people in the past, so they drive the people close to them away to protect themselves. in the chorus, 'waiting for the funeral' means that the person is just waiting for people to give up on them, for their relationships to end. so basically it's about self-sabatoging, pessimism, and waiting for everything to go wrong. at least that's what it means to me. | |
