Anberlin – You Belong Here Lyrics 15 years ago
Stephen has reached that final point in writing love songs. The opposite of this song is "The Art Of War", and the companion is "Take Me (As You Found Me).

I only say this because this song is mostly directed and written as if it were towards a relationship in the final stages of full acceptance or it's converse being full loss. In this case full acceptance because this is a person saying to his significant other "You were meant for me" and "You belong here with me" and no one else. It's a quite flattering song, but it truly is meant for a mature romance (and most definitely for a couple who are getting married).

Anberlin – Closer Lyrics 15 years ago
Musically it is classic Anberlin with spontaneous signatures, roaring guitars, and rumbling rhythm

Lyrically a labyrinth.

What this song means is a relationship mostly from the man's perspective actively knowing that his significant other has a checkered past, but he's isn't the one that's perfect because he also has one. And one that clouds the relationship to the point that it's a struggle to even know each other with this in mind. He is saying in the second stanza "Are you keeping safe distance" because you know this won't work? or because i'll do the same thing to you that I did to the last girl and that you can't accept it?

In the second verse, he is saying "Do you expect me to keep from crawling back" which is rhetorically asking Do you want me to go forward with this knowing everything?

In the bridge towards the second chorus, it's him saying, are you the one feeling betrayed because i'm not the one that won't accept the future- it's like a cliche

Anberlin – Take Me (As You Found Me) Lyrics 15 years ago
This...along with The Art Of War should give signs to think that this will be the last love song Stephen will ever write.

This beautiful song is about most likely a relationship in that final accord towards acceptance (and most likely towards the big plunge of marriage) which is literal and figurative in it's own sense. "Take me as you found me" is saying you should have me now after what we've been through or just leave me with no regard. Things like this don't just happen overnight so in the song he switches off by saying "Or leave me to die", "Or leave me tonight" because it's uncertain.

"Who's gonna drain my blood" saying who's going to get under my skin like you (said in adoration). "Who's gonna write all my wrongs) saying who will clean me up. "Who's going to tear me flesh, with a siren song" is like the first line saying who will be the same like you without being you?

"Leave me wanting" is him saying that he cannot live without her

Anberlin – Depraved Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is quite possibly a masterpiece. It's absolutely brilliant and entirely left to the listener to decide it's dual meaning

Meaning 1- As this song is up to the listener's prerogative, this first time I listened to this I knew that it was about someone he knew that really always made him feel sorry for them, Depraved because that person was feeling left out and not cared for in there own warped sense. He leads on to saying "Are you depraved or are you deceived", in turn saying that deprivation is like being deceived one way or another- like they had been hurt before which led to deprivation. And in this meaning I quite took it literally about him saying "You're not a slave so get off your knees" meaning that so much other people could have worse than how you're doing right now. And through the chorus-like part it's almost like he doesn't know that person anymore.

Meaning 2- In the second prerogative of this song the meaning is quite literal if you knew the kind of humanitarian work Stephen does for his non-profit Faceless. Which spreads awareness on the hazards of human-trafficking of all kinds. So in this meaning it's describing someone he's met (most likely a refugee) who mistakes depravity for being deceived because it's happened to them for so long and the excuses which has kept them in containment. "Stop saying please" saying that they are so much better than whomever has deprived them and that they shouldn't be ashamed for the unreliable circumstances that they were dragged into. "Someone tell me your name" is literal because it's like Stephen asking this person's name who has gone nameless for so long.

The caps off the album so well- considering that it entirely is about struggle and the light that can shine from it. Utterly a magnum opus

Anberlin – The Art of War Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is heartbreaking but redeeming in the same sense- it's haunting all the while. Anyhow this is written as a person who is still in a relationship with someone who actively knows that he's the one being used. But passively accepting it, "The Art of War" the way I see it is things that she can use against him or things to make her stonger, but him saying "Was I the greatest" is almost like he's fully accepting it.

In my honest perspective, this song is so damn heart-wrenching as I said but only because I think of it as the idealist's acceptance to reality- because he built up so many aspirations about her like how he wrote songs that compared this to her, and how it just doesn't belong because it's reality and it's what he now accepts.

This song is almost like a man vs man vs self kind of song in a way...think about it

Manchester Orchestra – Jimmy, He Whispers Lyrics 15 years ago
Wow! this song is phenomenal. What it is about is literally two brothers. This song makes me tear because. my brother is one of the biggest people in my life that I love besides my actual family and friends. So i'm allowing myself to speak as if this were him.

Well what this song is about is two brothers who seem to have gone through something terrible but it isn't mentioned and that fear is so substantial and easy for them. And for the singer speaking is like he is the older brother to try to console the younger brother even though he is disguising the hurt. With the reference of God in the mix, it adds to the certainty of safety. Because there is no thing safer than religion if home cannot provide that. The older brother is protecting the younger one even if the older one is hurting

Manchester Orchestra – I Was A Lid Lyrics 15 years ago
I wish everyone would think deeper into the meaning- everyone that I can see thinks this song is just singularly about religion and yes I agree but look at it closer and think of it as a basis for a relationship- not with God but intimately with someone else.

This song is about him being the reason why he kept it together for his significant other, that he was the "Lid" from keeping anything going wrong. And though he declared himself a man, a man content with himself both physically, mentally and religiously he really couldn't control himself from ending up to be a man who could have already been in her life already. Towards the end of the song- the last four verses he is talking briefly about how he entirely knows he has gone into this trap he made for himself but he still blames the woman for putting him in that position in the first place. The last two lines are very much related to "Tony The Tiger". How it would have even gave him more hope then he had put in himself.

Andy Hull though sometimes singular is a brilliant songwriter. All good writers generally do write about the same things over and rewrite it but this is a wonderful, almost chilling re-incarnation of "I Can Feel A Hot One" and "Tony The Tiger" as I said

Manchester Orchestra – Tony The Tiger Lyrics 15 years ago
Everyone is right about how this song is about abortion but on a different sense though- a deeper meaning. I'm starting to think in Andy Hull's life that there happened to be an abortion in his life because "I Was A Lid" is exactly about the same thing. And so "I Can Feel A Hot One". Well anyways, the deeper meaning is that I think Andy/The Singer wanted a child in a sense but didn't want his significant other to go through pain just to make him happy. IF even it would have done anything for him at all.

Now "Tony The Tiger" is actually very literal really, it's based off the Frosted Flaked Tiger. It relates to this song because (and this is my opinion) Tony The Tiger gives kids and people hope (just by the commercials), and it's like flipping the title on it's side, like an opposite meaning that pertains to this song as a would-be of hope and to the title which is a literal meaning of hope and pride

Band of Horses – Evening Kitchen Lyrics 15 years ago
This song absolutely gives me goosebumps.

I agree with the person above me, but rather see it as passively getting caught up in someone in turn of it ending and realizing what you've missed.

In my opinion though I think it's called "Evening Kitchen" because...well in romantic sense the kitchen is where it can be most romantic. I don't know how well to describe it without getting all narrative but think of it as all those lonely, desolate nights you spent with a significant other passively knowing that only bad will come out of it, it all happens in the kitchen because the kitchen is where you build a home, a family. And it's like saying that the evening kitchen is where this is all taking place- in desolation and lack of words

Band of Horses – Factory Lyrics 15 years ago
In what I picked up from this is that it's about a man who lived life tumultuously and by himself at that, a very self indulged man who at first in the first part of the song feels sorry for himself and won't respect himself to adhere to what he's even doing. This is written in 2nd person perspective as if the singer is going through it as well.

And I think the title "Factory" is very literal and metaphorical at the same time, Factory meaning that this has happened before (Like a factory does". That's what I got from it

Sleeping At Last – Clockwork Lyrics 16 years ago
This is such a sweet, sweet song. It's almost disney like

This is about a being denied what you want to much: a perfect world from how the lyrics put it. But the lyrics are almost saying that a perfect world will come in time, and in this time everything can be perfect.

But if this perfect world couldn't happen, the people wanting the perfect world would always thirst and try

Anchor & Braille – Blur Lyrics 16 years ago
great, great song

this is about a couple in relationship together that hasn't been all to perfect, more tumultuous than prosperous and it's as if one person in the relationship is demanding more, but in this the other person cannot satisfy that, so the person wanting more can't tell where to begin or end. Everything is a blur in the whole of the relationship

Nobody analyzes songs anymore, come on guys this is a great song.

Anyways, this song is almost a third person/first person song about feeling unsuperior, and as much as you try it becomes shadowed by the world around, and in this it makes the person that this song is about feel unwanted. The person in the song is wondering if they could or ever be wanted, it's a pretty pessimistic song, but if you know Stephen, I bet this is about all the unfortunate souls that he helps in the impoverished countries in Faceless international

Anchor & Braille – Forget Love, I Just Want You To Make Sense To Me Tonight Lyrics 16 years ago
This is a such a superb song. This is about a man in a relationship with a women and the fact that she always refers to there love in pale of everything else is making the man in the relationship almost crazy, as if nothing's making sense to him. And it's as if she should know better, because she has gone this far with him

Anchor & Braille – Like Steps in a Dance Lyrics 16 years ago
What this song means is that love is so predicable in all it's form, hence "Like Steps In A Dance" cause it's happened before. It's a melancholy song about the worst theories of love.
