Tony The Tiger Lyrics
I was alone
So I set a fire and I wasted it all on you
You were a seed I can hardly remember
And I knew it'd be over soon
If I was a tree I know you couldn't take it
On a Sunday afternoon
And we were a bridge on top of gaudy water
With something left inside you
What is the price to be a bargain beggar
So lonely but always free
What did you mean when you said it's destructive
And you sank yourself right into me
I know you think you know
But you probably don't
And I know you think you know
But you probably don't know
Didn't think that you would actually do it
Didn't think that you would actually do it
And you slept the entire drive home
It was you my sister and I
And you slept the entire drive home
It was you my sister and I
Didn't think that you would actually do it
Didn't think that you would actually do it
Didn't think that you would actually do it
Didn't think that you would actually do it
So I set a fire and I wasted it all on you
You were a seed I can hardly remember
And I knew it'd be over soon
If I was a tree I know you couldn't take it
On a Sunday afternoon
And we were a bridge on top of gaudy water
With something left inside you
So lonely but always free
What did you mean when you said it's destructive
And you sank yourself right into me
I know you think you know
But you probably don't
And I know you think you know
But you probably don't know
Didn't think that you would actually do it
It was you my sister and I
And you slept the entire drive home
It was you my sister and I
Didn't think that you would actually do it
Didn't think that you would actually do it

While I totally get why you all would think this song is about abortion; it is not. Recently Andy was on John Pryor's podcast (it was like an hour 1/2 long but totally interesting where Andy and John talk about being fathers and touring musicians and the origins of Manchester etc), and he spoke about Tony The Tiger and how people assume it's about abortion however he says it is not, rather it's just about a really long and difficult car ride. He does say he understands why people would assume that were true.
The podcast is on ntwha.com
I think you mean Matt Pryor. And yes, it's an interesting discussion. Andy said it was a series of observations, but that shouldn't change the fact that a lot of people found it very poignant on the topic of abortion, which he thinks is great.

Do you think that you would actually do it Do you think that you would actually do it

Do you think that you would actually do it Do you think that you would actually do it

What did you mean, when you said it's destructive? And you sank yourself right into me.
This really hits me. Straight through my heart.
I still don't understand..all those moments we shared were unmistakebly intentional. I know they were. But why is it that after we finally kissed, now you've run away? I don't know what you mean by when you said that you don't want to be like this with me again. You said you felt nothing. How is that possible? After everything. I felt everything with you.
commenting..again.
"I was alone, so I set a fire and I wasted it all on you."
Fires can be used to catch the attention of somebody to come save you..i.e. you're stuck on an island and start a bonfire so planes passing overhead can find you and rescue you. This guy was lonely and just needed someone to save him. However in trying to catch this girl's attention he wasted all his "signal flares" (i.e. all his energy) on her and now has nothing left for anyone else. He is still suck without her, helpless, and lonely.

Everyone is right about how this song is about abortion but on a different sense though- a deeper meaning. I'm starting to think in Andy Hull's life that there happened to be an abortion in his life because "I Was A Lid" is exactly about the same thing. And so "I Can Feel A Hot One". Well anyways, the deeper meaning is that I think Andy/The Singer wanted a child in a sense but didn't want his significant other to go through pain just to make him happy. IF even it would have done anything for him at all.
Now "Tony The Tiger" is actually very literal really, it's based off the Frosted Flaked Tiger. It relates to this song because (and this is my opinion) Tony The Tiger gives kids and people hope (just by the commercials), and it's like flipping the title on it's side, like an opposite meaning that pertains to this song as a would-be of hope and to the title which is a literal meaning of hope and pride
It's so obviously about abortion. I never used to really get why, then, I had one...
'It was you, my sister and I, you slept the entire drive home...' I would imagine that the sister came along for 'female support' and I can totally see why she'd sleep through the journey home.
It also seems like this was what neither wanted, if it's based on Andy's real life, perhaps due to his Christian background (and probably hers) abortion would have frowned upon pre-marital pregnancy and abortion simultaneously.
Pretty sure it's "We didn't think that you would actually do it."
Im not sure i hear both :S but first time i heard "didnt think you would actually do it"
i think it says "to think that you would actually do it"
but either way sick song.
