My favorite off the album, I think it seems dark. I believe it's about depression, because the song makes me slightly depressed, which I enjoy. I always like a song that controls my emotions, because that means it's passionate. Depressing metal is the shit, especially when you have fast paced bands like Soilwork slow down a little bit, they can't help but explode with their speed by the end of the song. Beautiful. |

Pretty sure it's about drugs. Badass song if you like to hear the female voice do something besides plain old singing. This song grew on me after years. If you like kidneythieves I also check out Stolen Babies and FuryKane. |

I think this song is the best 1 on the album. It's powerful it rocks and it has a chick singing half the time. I've never heard anything like this song. Thank you Devin for the originality.
As for the meaning of this song I feel it's about atheism. He doesn't want to save his soul, and he encourages you to evolve, and not to fall in line.
The lyrics on here are definitely wrong and I can't find them anywhere, all I know is he says, "So high" at the end of the song. |

It's all about the money, that's why bands reform 14 years later. Fortunately there are plenty of bands who don't let popular culture and the media run the show. |

This is the best song on the album. Awesome song. I'm a huge Alice in Chains fan and every album is bound to have an awesome song or 2. They are talented musicians but I feel this is the most ate up album they've put out yet. I feel sure they are talking about weed like some people have said, but the song covers many topics and I've found AIC very hard to interpret sometimes with lyrics alone, I.E. Rooster, I had no idea what they were talking about til i watched the video.
One thing I'd like to point out is that Cantrell wrote every song on here, DuVall only co-wrote 2 of the songs on Black Gives Way to Blue. The best of Alice in Chains was all their EP's and their 1st two studio albums. It is no coincidence lyrics mostly done by Staley up til 1994. Their last album they put out with Staley I always thought was disappointing, and so I look it up on wikipedia, and I see that Cantrell wrote most of it. I feel like they are a new band now, and they should have called themselves something else, in my mind they are riding on Staley's talent by using the same name. That may sound mean but ask yourself this, if consider yourself an Alice in Chains fan. Name your favorite songs by this band b4 this 2009 album. Name 15, I dare you. I guarantee none of them will be on the album Cantrell wrote in 1995. |
