I'm a senior in high school, about to graduate. Tomorrow's my last day and I'm generally happy about that, but I'm in the theatre program and I love everyone in there so much. Each person and memory means so much to me personally and honestly I'm not sure how to be without them. So something I do every once in a while is take a song I like and change the lyrics up a bit to fit a certain situation in my life, and I did that with this song, lovingly dedicated to my fellow theatre geeks: Breathe (Theatre Version) I see your faces in my mind as I drive away, but the curtain must close at the end of each play. Actors are actors, and sometimes we forget our lines, but it still kills me to go after three years' time. We told stories, some comedy, some tragedy, and this kinda feels like a tragedy to me. I wonder if it's the end of a glorious age, cuz I only know what to be when I'm on that stage. i think this song is about the double standard many people carry around in their hearts about God. when things are going good, we say, "haha, look how great i'm doing, i don't need God." then, when life turns sour, we think, "well, maybe the idea of God isn't so ridiculous after all." actually, i disagree with the statement that we have no control of our lives. we DO. we have full control. God gave us the power of choice, because if we didn't, we'd start to act like toddlers and say "it's not fair! let me make some decisions for once!" so God's like, "fine. make your own decisions. eventually you'll come crawling back to me when you make the bad ones." which is exactly what happens. every bad decision we make adds a little more evil to the world, which is why we have death and kidnappings and cancer. so, really, all the bad in the world is our fault. every action has an equal reaction. so we make crappy decisions, get crappy consequences, do exactly what God said we would do, and then get the irony, just a little too late. |

| it sounds almost like a conversation between david and his brother, and his brother is worried, not for himself, but for david, because he won't be there to support his baby brother like he always has been. so he's reassuring david that he'll always be there, in spirit if not in person. and then it switches to david, who sees the suffering his brother goes through and wishes he could make it go away or even switch places with him, but his brother is still saying that no matter what happens, it'll be okay. david isn't at peace with things but his brother is, and david was so moved and inspired he wrote a song. | |

| i disagree with xlittlesparrowx. i don't think it can be written about his family cuz some of the lyrics have a very sexual commotation, like "pull me in like you were made for me" and "i crawl into your atmosphere", and since david's never mentioned incest, i really doubt it's anything but romantic. he's singing about a girl that brings out the best in him and that he looks up to. but just because it's romantic doesn't make it not inspirational. and romance is not less that inspiration, it's just different. | |

to me, this just describes young people in general- we're the new face of failure prettier and younger, but not any better off bulletproof loneliness, at best, at best like, yeah, we look good on the outside, but the world for us is quickly becoming darker and darker, because we obsess over our imperfection. the best way to make it through with hearts and wrists intact is to realize that two out of three ain't bad like, don't obsess over stuff. it's cool. this could also apply to relationships. but really, relationships and self-esteem are intricately connected, so it probably has a double meaning. |

at one angle, i see this as a completely one-sided relationship. like where you love someone and they feel nothing for you, and you feel so depressed you just want to die, and then you start fantasizing about that, like if you died, maybe... but that's completely unhealthy. anyway, at another angle, i see this as the story of jesus, but a bit more humanized. like, they're explaining it on terms that are more understandable, and more relateable. |

| i think this is just a song about a field trip to six flags or something, when you're in highschool, and all the crazy crap highschoolers go through like running out of cell phone minutes and confusing relationships and not being able to go on the stupid field trip cuz you forgot to tell the rents (parents, for those that don't know). and the video was really weird, but i think that was the point. a lot of relient k's songs sound like they got inspiration from something that just randomly happened and just wrote something down while they still had it. i'm a songwriter, and i know that inspiration doesn't come all that often so you just roll with it eventually. it's weird, i get all my song ideas in algebra 2 class, so i'm either talking about being sleepy or parabolas. haha, just kidding. mostly. | |

| a lot of people i know, when i played it for them, gave gc a lot of crap about this song, saying they were going all "religious on them". okay, America is a free country and you should be able to write about what's close to your heart, whatever that may be. and this song can help a lot of people, whether they're religious or not, because it's not just about faith, it's about realizing when you're in a dark place and having the courage and humility to take yourself out of it, which is a message that can help anyone. the song is really well written and emotional, and i think gc's really brave for releasing it, seeing as religion is such a controversial topic. but seriously, if we can't talk about controversial topics in a rational, respectful manner, what will this world come to? | |

okay, this is the most amazing song on the face of the planet! it describes the way love really is, instead of the old "roses and buttercream icing" version on chikfliks and the "love means never having to say you're sorry" crap. love is rough. it doesn't eradicate sacrifice and hard work, it just makes it worthwhile. dude, this whole cd makes me think that he's on the edge of a divorce, especially this song and "the stenographer". but he just can't let go cuz even though they're having problems he still needs her in his life, and he's trying to make her remember the good times cuz all she can focus on is the bad. or maybe i've completely missed the point. i wouldn't know, i dunno what his private life is like. |
