| Explosions in the Sky – It's Natural to Be Afraid Lyrics | 17 years ago |

The first time I heard this song, I was listening through the album without paying close attention to the song names, but would check every so often. I was finishing up some homework and wasn't feeling great because of certain things going on in life at the time. The stess and intimidation of the future had been beginning to bear down on me. Just the sheer uncertainty of what was to come brought unyielding stress, and the building of the song beat the feeling deeper. I had forgotten I was listening to them until just before the climax, when I was feeling most upset, hands shaking, palms sweaty, about to break down. Then the climax broke. I felt a sudden release of tension, everything seemed to align for a moment, everything was fine. I looked at my zune to see the title of the song, 'It's natural to be afraid', and I was reminded of how phenomenally Explosions can communicate such strong emotions with so little. It was like a comforting companion saying, yeah, things are gonna be scary, and things might get really difficult, but that's alright, because life will be good too, and I'll always be near to remind you of it. |

This song is my favorite by them so far. It brings such a beautiful mood and tone. The lyrics set a soft nostalgia. Like someone reminiscing, somewhat in regret. I like how a lot of it is more personal things, like, counting the black cars? there's no analyzing there, that's just a memory of his. well, as far as I can tell. lol. but it's just a bittersweet love note. SUCH a beautiful song. |

i really can't say for sure, but i think that an angel kissin on a sinner is a different analogy all together, like her and him, comparing her to an angel and him to much less. but i haven't taken my time to really look at it, so i'm probably wrong. so it's just a thought. |

the meaning's pretty obvious. you don't have to get so specific as to say 'a drug addict that just died' it's just this guy that realizes he isn't living life to the extent that he could be and wants to fix that. there might be a story behind it, but that's the message of the song. really cool song I love the intro. |
