The first time I heard this song, I was listening through the album without paying close attention to the song names, but would check every so often.

I was finishing up some homework and wasn't feeling great because of certain things going on in life at the time. The stess and intimidation of the future had been beginning to bear down on me. Just the sheer uncertainty of what was to come brought unyielding stress, and the building of the song beat the feeling deeper. I had forgotten I was listening to them until just before the climax, when I was feeling most upset, hands shaking, palms sweaty, about to break down. Then the climax broke. I felt a sudden release of tension, everything seemed to align for a moment, everything was fine. I looked at my zune to see the title of the song, 'It's natural to be afraid', and I was reminded of how phenomenally Explosions can communicate such strong emotions with so little.

It was like a comforting companion saying, yeah, things are gonna be scary, and things might get really difficult, but that's alright, because life will be good too, and I'll always be near to remind you of it.

This piece of art is genius. The lengthy yet intriguing intro goes on and on, and it's hard to turn away because you know something's got to happen. During this part of the song i always think of someone, who has the perfect life. Who's got it made. With women, work, or whatever, They're just set for life. Then the intro fades and the guitars step in. At this point, one realizes that he's not really accomplishing anything in life, and he only lives for himself. He realizes that he really doesn't have many True friends; people that can and will be there for him. When the drums come in, (6:20) Something tragic, tragic, happens. Such as a loved ones' parting. He realizes that all this time he never knew what he had, and he never spent time with the ones and things that mattered most. Instead, he focused on his own self and pleased no one else. At (7:30), the man begans to attempt to cope with situation, understand it, and attempt to change his life. From that day on out, he would make a vow to live a different life. At (8:20), i picture the man beginning to live his life for others. He starts working for others, through volunteer work and the likes, and helps his elderly neighbors and the poor. At (9:15), tragedy strikes again, and this man's new life is once again ripped to shreds. He loses all he gained, and once again start over. But this time, since he's been through this before, He knows exactly what to do and how to correctly handle it. He will once again begin a new life, and continue the map that has been layed out before him.

This is just my way of looking at the song. It may sound crazy, but there's not really a definite interpretation.

Haha...I now have your image in my head when I listen to this song. I like it though.

this is my second favorite song from them, my first being the birth and death of the day. both have amazing buildups and amazing climaxes, totally mesmerizing.

this was not my favorite from suddenly i miss everyone because i didn't like the beginning so much. but four minutes into the song and onward until the ending is so breath-taking. it makes me feel like i'm standing on a cliff with the wind blowing almost hard enough to make me fall to my death, but i never do, and i am safe.

i swear, if their drummer was half as good as the other members, explosions would be the best band ever, but the drumming is always so boring and simple. this song is a prime example.

has anyone else thought its about tripping? i think its saying during the come up you're a little afraid and thats just natural so sit back and enjoy the rest of the amazing ride.
