It's all about expectation, the beginning of something. It has a nostalgic quality a kind of sadness, I mean, the guitar part isn't happy, but it sounds like the best parts of your past.
I mean, yeah, it's about the album's boy, but that's just a template for everything else.
I enjoy this song so much, but the vocals always sounded painful to me. Probably my fav in Zen Arcade. |

I guess it's about a man who is being seduced by a woman or this man is flirting. And he is telling to the woman that he has a little girl that he loves and that he would no exchange a love he feels pure for vain affair.
I don't know about the nature of the little girl. She could be his wife, girfriend or daugther. No one in the world is like her. So cute and little and satisfing.
I liked the voice effects, especially the "Maybe you'd sit by my side (in another life x4)" part in the second verse hahahaha. |

I like the instrumental part more than the singing. I think the lyrics are about a guy or girl that is eating a chocolate ice cream. So the instrumental part represents all the fun in the ice cream eating and the lyrics are the realization of the possibility that the ice cream might not be forever is what makes the girl or guy say dammit.
The damage part is what i dont understand yet.

But that is the beuty of this song to me, it's the story of something that large groups of people really like and can relate to this music. It has something for much people. I don't know what i'm saying, but man, i'm really feeling Sterling Morrison's sound, great guitar playing for me.

I know it's about that buried person. But i also like to think it's about society today, we are not really free, the only thing free is called market. The walls of concrete are all those stupid laws that don't let people do whatever they want, everything is on video now and a lot of people believe that what they see is the truth, in a sense we are all blind, our voice is not allowed to say things that really change the state of things, there is no echo in this place. So the cover me comfort me stuff is like some kind of hope or probably admitting defeat, since this is a pop song about a man buried alive.

I think it's about someone with depression, one that keeps avoiding troubles and keeps making the same mistakes and has lost grip with reality. That's why the woman says "look at you fooling you", but the one the song is about can't see, is about an unhealty person.
That or maybe about something else. A great song i think. |
