Coheed and Cambria – World of Lines Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this is definitely from Wilhelm Ryan's POV, I'm actually surprised no one has suggested it before me. All the lyrics point right to Ryan.

"this is the hidden truth
the world between the lines
Where there is no understanding us"

Ryan is the Supreme Tri-Mage ruler of everything right now, he is the keeper of the "hidden truth" about the Black Rainbow and the world beneath it ("the lines" = the black rainbow). And the evil side is always hard to comprehend/sympathize with... "there is no understanding us."

"These lines have marked divisions, the weaker seek to malign With this looming precious ending
there's no more room for reprimanding"

Ryan calls his opponents who believe in the black rainbow is a sign from god as "weak".. well he calls everybody weak. Only Ryan would call it the "precious ending" because he's instigating it.

"This lying liar's had his turn
You've managed nothing more
than a pathetic attempt at attack
This heart is everlasting,
pushing forward, never crashing"

Lying liar could be referring to himself, acknowledging the many lies he's told to try and decieve the enemy.. idk. But you can definitely hear Ryan saying "You've managed nothing more than a pathetic attempt at attack". He has the upper hand at this point in the story, Co & Cam are just flies on his radar. And as to the last line, the KBI and rebel forces keep trying to kill him and they fail every time, he just won't die.

"State your case and go hide
Leave us to your worst,
I will never give in "

Another thing only Ryan would say

"Now I'll play your enemy,
the only word you can find for me"

BAM. well that about wraps that up. oh and "This world of lines, the strong will decide" is definitely a Ryan's POV too.

The Dear Hunter – The Inquiry of Ms.Terri Lyrics 15 years ago
Now that we have Act III and the perspective of the Father's experience with Ms. Terri in "He Said He Had A Story", it would make sense that the line "Please be soft and sweet to me, this life has not been good you see its hard with such a history buried in misery" that Ms. Terri says would be the actual Inquiry of Ms. Terri. Any takers?

Envy on the Coast – Clergy Lyrics 15 years ago
I think it's "Penetrate these fangs to fill this bile with naivety
Sip and tap a taste of my disease
And they're dragging you"

and "face the veil that separates
where guilt won't die and is born again
open aisle awaits for my two knees" - like kneeling in front of the cross

and then "hands are tied to the clergy's lies, and they're dragging you"

"I sat.. the words I just can't comprehend" - refers to the bible, he can't make sense of it and come up with a sermon

Envy on the Coast – Spinal Cords Lyrics 15 years ago
"I spy my friends filling boxes,"
i think that part's about he's now in a band and doing way better than his friends that he used to hang out with - "the scales have tipped and i'm superstitious"

also it's: "My father taught me how to cut teeth,
and I sink them in to our broken cities.
the gypsies told me that my cuts seem
like a poor man playing the blues in the subways
of New York City, you're too good to me.
You stay with me while my feet keep moving.
In my grave, she knows to dig herself
Cause I'll use my hands to climb out of it.."

maybe spinal cord means like you have no backbone - and you're dependent on everyone else, like "don't you pull the plug", they're you're life support

Envy on the Coast – Bad News Lyrics 15 years ago
I think these are more correct:

Bad News
He's here for you
Rolled up his sleeves in everything and love you 'til
Your body feels brand new
Love is good for you
Til they die for you're still singin' for
If his hook is in your mouth and he's got you...
He's got you,
He's got you!

Oh,
He's got you.

I'm bad news
So the things I do
You let me in and I swear I'll prove to you
The medicine just won't go down.
Swallow again and again and again
And again

Bad news
It is here for you
Wrap his breath around
You're sparkling
Like a born again
But nothing's ever new
You know that's true
I call it pretty music
But my father keeps on callin' it the blues! ohhh ohh oh

Oh..
Callin' it the blues
He's callin' it the blues, ohh..
I'm bad news so the things I do..
Let me in and I swear I'll prove to you..
The medicine just won't go down.
Swallow again and again and again..
And again.. oh.. and again..
Oh.. and again! oh!!

Bad news
Bad news
Ohh..
Now bad news
Well I'm bad news!
Well I call it pretty music
My father keeps on callin' it the blues!

Envy on the Coast – Made of Stone Lyrics 15 years ago
"I learned to stare the way that he did
The way that Jesus watched his sheep
I do this to breathe into the choir,
I preach
You know how it feels,"

is this part from the perspective of a priest?

and then he's talking about the priest/religious figure in

"When I start to think you're made of stone,
You're chiseled out of brick.
You're the vase that shatters
Holding such a pitiful thing.
You're made of stone,
You're chiseled out of brick.
I still believe in this."

... normal.

I can't come up with a solid meaning though... but the twilight zone thing is awesome.

Envy on the Coast – The Great American T-Shirt Racket Lyrics 15 years ago
the twloha idea sounds really good, before I saw this i was thinking it was about WWJD shirts but that sounds better. just like to throw out the WWJD idea

cause he mentions God a lot and I thought he was talking about the hypocrisy of organized religion w/ "Open up, yeah I'd like to join you. You can talk to God and I'll just watch. Oh, and I'll just watch.."

"You've got your very own heaven sent Jesus Christ.
Christ, what's the hell that make me?
parasite, parasite.
Write it anywhere that you'd like."
I thought he was saying like if you worship and obsess over Jesus, what does that make you? a parasite. Christian = parasite

cause haha Ryan hates religion

"Bus driver.
Get me out of here.
We can’t live in a house that’s built on dollars and sense.
Because we don’t have either.
But I’ve got your back
Cause you built mine out of brick."

i think this verse he's sort of talking to the bus driver when he says "i got your back" cause they both aren't rich, but they'd rather their houses be built out of brick instead of "dollars and sense. wait..... cents??? =O

Envy on the Coast – Clean of You Lyrics 15 years ago
its "more about your lover", not "or i'll buy your lover".

its pretty clear what the beginning is about. he's "fed up with the process, it's nonsense, you've got to be the *farthest thing from artists". He hates how the labels and producers (or whoever the "head on a suit" is, i don't really know) try to fuck around with his music and try to twist it into their own idea of what it should be.

not sure what the chorus means... maybe "clean of you" means he wants to wash any influence from the people trying to mess with his music?

another correction: "who doesn't love the feeling of being a stranger, breathing *amongst all the people who you should call when you need a feeling"
from this i get the feeling that he's alluding to the sort of fame that comes along with being in a band, and how much easier it is to get girls because of it... maybe?

and then I hear "I will continue to speak, to honor the shiek, and to wreak uneasiness on the kids.."

thats just his declaration that he's not gonna back away from the taboo, unpleasant subjects because kids' "heads could use opening"

it's "I think they changed all my words"

Thank you whoever finally posted these lyrics. LOVE the new album

Envy on the Coast – The Devil's Tongue Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song is about the writer's agnostic but obsessive views on religion. he scoffs cathlocism and the concept of sin and the devil, yet he's sort of haunted and affected by it anyway.
"keep it together, kid"... is the sort of guilt thats still kind of there and bothering him, but he still lives his life how he wants, having sex and doing w/e, because "the bad feels good to me".

The Matches – Nothing's going on Lyrics 16 years ago
I think this song is embodying the slowing down of stuff with the matches - their contract with epitaph is up and things are just overall slowing down and they're fed up with like nothings going on, and they're not getting any younger.

Say Anything – Less Cute Lyrics 16 years ago
in an AP track by track thing, this is what max bemis said the song was about:

"It's about a college-age girl who is infatuated with a college-age guy who doesn't love her at all but sleeps with her all the time. So she finds an easier, more submissive guy to use to make this other guy jealous. It's a terrible love triangle. In society, we see this happen all the time. I've seen this happen so many times: people pursue what is not healthy, including myself when I was younger. I could have played any of these roles in my life. We pursue that which is not healthy for us or gives us what we want. It's what seems viable based on what society's standards are, such as being attractive. In reality, it is just a lie that we're pursuing and we are willing to hurt anyone to get that. In that process, everyone gets really screwed over. Even though society says this is dating, this is what it's about: people get jealous of each other and people date people they don't like that much. All of these things are acceptable in society, but they are demeaning and make people feel terrible. I wanted this song to illuminate what we think is normal for your love life is actually sometimes a really destructive process."

The Matches – The Barber's Unhappiness Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is based on the short story by George Saunders "The Barber's Unhappiness". Its about this old-ish barber who still lives with his "Ma" and often stares at younger girls and like makes up scenarios with these women ("i trace your gaze, but that's stalker's praise") in his head but never approaches them because they'll just think he's a creepy old man, hence the line "a plan's as close as i'll ever get".

and at one point in the story, this girl in his driving class (weird, that an old man would be taking a driving class? but he was.) so when the girl catches him staring at her she actually smiles back and he thinks "what? they never smile back =D". but he doesn't approach her, he goes and sits in his car, and she goes back inside. then she comes back out with two coca colas (the line "cold colas to coexist, hold sodas in both her fists"), but he avoids her.

I read part of it. but it was only a like 10 page preview. Does anyone know where I can find the full story online?

I think the "All the people 'neath your feet that you'll never speak to, you'll never meet" is from shawn harris' point of view, at a concert, and kinda feeling that he'll never get to meet all his fans? idk. cuz he's expressed interest in like knowing all about his fans in other interviews and stuff so it would make sense that he would think about that a lot

This song reminds me of that part in Good Will Hunting where Robin William's character, don't remember his name, explains to matt damon that its the little quirks and eccentricities that he misses most in his wife, and its like what love is based on... kinda.

this song gives me that kind of feeling, i love ittt

Chiodos – We Swam from Albatross the Day We Lost Kailey Cost Lyrics 17 years ago
i get the feeling from this song that it's about someone examining themselves and reflecting on their past actions and why it brought them to where they are now and not liking what they see....

"Still all I'm looking for is something,
Something that I've found.
(We can't go back)"

"if i were twofaced would i be wearing this one"

they think they will never fix their problems "Deep in the hearts that will never be filled,"
so they decide to kill themselves

"the next chance that i get, i'm just going to take it
take this and everything",

so say goodbye now...", ect

so they're really depressed and they want to commit suicide
