| Robin Pecknold – I'm Losing Myself Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
What an amazingly beautiful and sad song.. it certainly sounds to me like he's in a relationship he feels like he shouldn't be. They don't fight, and he pretends everything is okay but deep down knows its not, and he can't get it off his mind - "but we speak easy and we seldom fight and I chew on the bones of the day while you sleep soft and warm in the night". Even though he feels like he's 'losing himself' and can't give the relationship 100%, he loves her enough that he can't stand to see her with another man - "and I can't see you with anyone else, even if that means holding you down, even if that means losing myself" However, he can't help but think she feels the same, and he worries about her straying - "he's a smooth talker, and he shaves his face, and I wonder if you look at me and instead see him taking my place." The only part I don't get is the last line: "and I hope you're around and forgiving when you see me losing myself".... I think he knows 'losing himself' is inevitable, and just hopes she'll take care of the person he is becoming when he stays with her. Heavy stuff! Brilliant song though. |

| Grouplove – Gold Coast Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Great song from an up and coming artist - obviously the first thing I think of when i hear the title of this song is the Gold Coast, which is in southern Queensland, Australia. For those that don't know, the Gold Coast, affectionately known as the 'Goldie' is a bit like Miami, Florida - lots of high-rise apartments on a pristine beach with perfect waves and sunny every day of the year, except alot of really 'fake' people. Absolutely no idea if this has anything to do with the song though! |

| Mumford & Sons – Liar Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Its quite obviously about a relationship that has slowly died, like too many do. The protagonist (guy) knows its dying, but all his efforts to make it right again eventuate to nothing. He knows she doesnt feel the same way, but cannot do anything to change it. Her fake 'crying' makes him angry, because she knows he doesn't care for his feelings, but he is still in love with her - a love that 'he detests'. Ironically, the girl who gave me this song was the one that put me through this, and I hate the fact it's ruined such an amazing song for me. |

| Local Natives – Cubism Dream Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| pretty much spot on... i was listening to triple j the other week and the Doctor was interviewing Ryan about the song (and the Australia name drop) and Ryan said it was written about Kelcey's relationship with his ex - who moved to Australia to go to acting school, subsequently breaking up because of the whole long distance thing. | |
| Angus and Julia Stone – Old Friend Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Such a nice song... this is taken from the Age, 3 September 2010: "Julia spent her time in exile living in New York, slowly recording a solo album. Then, one day, she received a call from her mother. Her grandfather had passed away. Angus and Julia decided to play a song at the funeral: Old Friend. Angus wrote it four years earlier when he discovered his grandfather had Alzheimer's. After the funeral, they returned to the US together and recorded Old Friend (included as a 'secret' track on Down the Way)." |

| Jet – She Holds A Grudge Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
from triplej - Mark: We had one ballad this whole time -- we didn't really write any slow tunes. Cam didn't sing a song on the last record, but he sings this one, and does a great job, too. It was nice to hear a song where the story's about someone apologising to their girlfriend and admitting they're wrong. Cam: My girl was always like, "You never write a song about me," and then I write one called 'You Hold a Grudge'. But it ends sweetly. She's marrying me, so she must have forgiven me. She might stand me up at the altar. |

| Jet – Goodbye Hollywood Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
i heard an interview on the radio with chris, and he was talking about how this album (Shaka Rock) was really back to basics without spending big money for success eg. with Shine On when it turned out to be a flop. So im guessing Goodbye Hollywood is kind of a statement from Jet about how they're going back to the garage so to speak - "So Goodbye Hollywood,Your sweet success don't taste that good, Now I've found a place to call my own" However only 2 songs from the album were recorded in Australia so kinda makes me wonder what they're on about. |

| Obadiah Parker – Hey Ya (Outkast cover) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| actually according to Wikipedia, that version was by The Blanks. | |
| Kaiser Chiefs – Like It Too Much Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"In uniforms, of green and gold, Like crocodiles they march in files of unison." i thought could be a reference to Australians? (Our national colours are green and gold, as are the uniforms of our athletes etc.) and also the crocodiles bit - crocs being native to Australia... but im not too sure about the rest of the lyrics? Great song though, love the new album :) |

| Kings of Leon – 17 Lyrics | 17 years ago |

i think your spot on whiterain.... possibly he wanted her to come touring with him, but his brothers were frightened it was no place for a relationship to begin and a family to be raised? hence 'whens a baby gonna sleep' when your constantly touring... ahh just a guess who knows. |

| Jet – Radio Song Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| i could be wrong, but i think i heard somewhere this is about Jet's struggle as an unknown band to get onto 'the radio' (or into the public spotlight). Great song though, and Jet certainly got onto the radio in the end. | |
