| Agalloch – Not Unlike the Waves Lyrics | 12 years ago |

The song is full of beautiful imagery and mythological references. The names of various deities seem to be used in the stead of a common noun, such as Aurora, or Sol, in place of "the sun". I believe if taken at face value the song literally describes a sunrise, and/or sunset. "emerald fire scars the night sky " - The sun creeping over the horizon, its rays piercing the surrounding dark... etc. But in a deeper way, using the gods in the place of other language, it suggests that the old gods do in fact exist, not necessarily in a literal, incarnate sense... but in those rays of light, in the very beauty of the simple, natural progression of the sunrise. So hence you have the more upbeat "feeling" of the song, it's not a sombre reflection of nature or the wilderness, it's more of a celebration of the divine existing in a larger sense all around us. |

The lines "You come clean, waves collide now" obviously refer to a shocking revelation of some sort... "Defenseless numb arms" lead me to believe that this is somehow related to a drug addiction, which if that's the case rest of the song rather easily falls into place. It could be a loved on or family member became so addicted to drugs that it ruined their life making them "dead to love", all while dragging the narrator into it as well. So of course, either through a fatal OD or rehab or something, the loved one has left, yet the narrator is still stuck in the "violent world" of abuse. So of course, he might consider a bit betrayed, or left behind. This could also tie in to "Departer" on their latest album as well. But in that song he's had a bit of time to reflect and calm himself, maybe taking back some of the blame. Or not. Whatever. |

| Katatonia – Clean Today Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| To me, this song is about trying to deal with a new found sobriety. The narrator has been under the influence of different substances so long, he's not sure how he's supposed to act and react on his own. Will he just be a shadow of himself? Does substance abuse make him completely who he is? | |
| Katatonia – Burn the Remembrance Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Basically yeah, contemplating on an old relationship of some sort. He's saying it's time to let go of the memories... but what new memories will rise to take the place of the ones that seem so important now? I really like how he uses the phrase "second hand impressions", to describe memory. I've never heard it put quite that way before, but it is eerily true. When living in the present, in any given situation you only have your personal impression of reality... and when remembering, it's not even first hand anymore. Your getting that impression filtered through another source, perhaps altered even. |

| Katatonia – Sweet Nurse Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I don't think this song is meant to be taken quite so literally. In fact, most of Katatonia's lyrics seem to involve a lot of metaphors and imagery. They often have a sort of impressionistic feel to them. Anyway, I think the song is about someone important in the narrator's life, who seems to be much more interested in "Fixing" him, rather than "Helping" him. The nurse obviously a metaphor for some sort of caretaker or confidant. She (or he) brushes off his request to open the curtains with a comment on what a fine day it is, and then later on, she (or he) seems much more interested in 'putting him to sleep' than listening to what's really bothering him. He's forced to drink their "poisoned water" so on and so forth. So yeah, someone who thinks they know what's best for you, but end up keeping you sick. That's what I believe the song is in reference to. |

The way I see this song, it all comes down to the first line: "Are you in, or are you out?" - It's a question. I think the entire song is basically about a crossroad in life, and he's asking the other person "Are we going to be together or not?" In a sense I think it's about loneliness, because he's spent his whole life in "The quiet cold of inner darkness" and it's only through the person the song describes, that he's found happiness or come to know himself... or whatever. And so, even if the other person decides to move on... he will always wait for them, because that's the only place he could ever find himself. Make sense? Anyway, this is probably my favorite track on the album, and one of my favorite songs overall. I love it. |

| Dimmu Borgir – Puritania Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Cool song. It's got a sick mid-tempo industrial influenced pound to it... kind of like a zombie/mechanical lurch towards the apocalypse. Actually, Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia is probably = my favorite Dimmu Borgir album to date. I feel it's got the best mix of heavy and symphonic/melodic elements in it, and a fairly diverse range of material. | |
| The Human Abstract – Crossing the Rubicon Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| The quote is a reference to what is probably their best known song... not the other way around. | |
| The Exies – Creeper Kamikaze Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Wow. This song is obviously about dealing with intrinsic, personal issues that would otherwise cause you to self-destruct. No 9-11, no pearl harbor. christ... some of the things people pull out of their arses on this site... |

Dead Letter I think you're spot on. The song is definitely a reflections of his life, and putting his emotions on sale to everyone. Although rather than make it depressing, they make the song fun in a maniacal sort of way, because let's face it. They all enjoy it. |

| Dir En Grey – Ryoujoku no Ame (English) Lyrics | 17 years ago |

If this isn't my favorite Dir en Grey song, it's definitely one of them. I love the wall of guitars in the intro and exit, they set this sort of overwhelming collapsing mood as the song launches into a sick, almost zombie lurch-like groove of euphoric destruction.... :) I don't think you can truly make sense of it line for line (especially since it's translated) but it just seems to me like it's another song of theirs that reflects on self-loathing and depression... and how it sort of builds and twists inside you until it consumes you, and it feels so right just to self-destruct. |

| Dir En Grey – Fukai (English) Lyrics | 17 years ago |

... Dir en Grey and Kawaii should never be used in the same sentence. Really. As for the song, I prefer the Code of Vulgarism version. I think it's a lot better constructed. |

| Lil' Wayne – Shoot Me Down Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I agree with privatepyle. It's about not bringing down people... it's about what he's been through, what he's trying to accomplish... and don't belittle that just because you don't agree. | |
| Slipknot – Sulfur Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| It's pretty much a reflection on being doubtful of what you really want at at first, like if you're living your life the right way... but then you realize exactly what it is you don't want... and by finding what you won't "run away" from you've discovered what you truly stand for. | |
| The Human Abstract – Crossing the Rubicon Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I really don't think this is about a girl at all. There is no indication of anything of the sort. Gahh.. it seems every song I look always has someone that thinks it's about a relationship. The Rubicon river, Julius Caesar... and being stabbed in the back yeah that's easily understandable. But I see no mention of romance. In fact, I'd say the song is more likely to be about Caesar himself than some emo relationship. |
