Crossing the Rubicon Lyrics

Of all the times I've been disrespected, you'd think it'd be no surprise...
Learning lessons, all the precious treasures take all that youve got.
I'll take your ready hand with a ready blade.
I'm dead set to make you lie in the bed you've made.

Paid in full, I'll take it from your pride,
I don't know what you thought, but you've gone past the line,
and you've got me wrong.
The time has come, your song has long been sung.

Brought down, brought down, you won't have long to go.
I'm not cutting a loss again.

An hourglass of sand, and Ill be on time, inform the rest.
Run as fast as you can. Hell's coming for you.

Try to strike and then slip away,
but I won't let you leave without feeling an equal pain.
You'll see, because Ill make you see.
Left in my council you'll know what it means to respect me.

Once I've caught you alone, I'll teach you all you need to know.
Pray, once I've caught you alone,
that I teach you all you need to know.

The time has come, your song has long been sung.

Brought down, brought down, you won't have long to go.
I'm not cutting a loss again.

Each of us has boundaries, everyone has got a breaking point.

I wish I held desire solely to right this wrong,
take careful tones urging the dawn to come,
make every word worth what it takes in turn,
but I can't go on with my faith interrupted.

My faith interrupted
How can I look the other way? My faith interrupted
You've shown me there is no other way out, other way out

Well to cross the rubicon means to cross the point of no return, and comes from when Caesar literally crossed the rubicon in 49 BC. It was against roman law for the army to cross this river, because it was "the military line" seperating the roman province of Cisalpine Gaul from Italy. Anyways, it seems like its about a girl who has cheated on him. Many a time he says things like "but you've gone past the line," as in youve crossed the point of no return. "I'm not cutting a loss again" as in this has happened before, but hes never going to let it happen again by "but I won't let you leave without feeling an equal pain. You'll see, because Ill make you see. Left in my council you'll know what it means to respect me."

pretty much he's been driven to his breaking point, and he is going to teach her a lesson. Thats what it seems like to me. Besides the meaning of the song, this is probably one of my favorite songs on the cd. There songs have a lot of symbolism, especially the names.

At first, when i first listened to the song i kinda thought it was just about the art of assassination. But i knew it was wrong when I heard it again. I agree with chris28.

The Rubicon was the river to the north of Rome, When Caesar led his troops over this river, coming back from an expedition in Cisalpine Gaul without permission from the Roman state, he created a sort of war against the Republic.

Im not a huge fan of the band or the song. Its / They're OK, but I respect the meaning in this song.

Cheers

Its a crazy song and chris28 is dead on. but at the ending how he's gonna teach the lesson, in my mind is suicide. to show the pain shes caused. and she can finally realize how bad she really is.

The ending of this song is just brutal...

I really don't think this is about a girl at all. There is no indication of anything of the sort. Gahh.. it seems every song I look always has someone that thinks it's about a relationship.

The Rubicon river, Julius Caesar... and being stabbed in the back yeah that's easily understandable. But I see no mention of romance.

In fact, I'd say the song is more likely to be about Caesar himself than some emo relationship.

Its about their lead guitarist leaving the band, I'm pretty sure, as he was quoted as saying "I can't keep on crossing the Rubicon so much, I don't feel like I can get onstage and feel honest about playing metal anymore." But, music is like poetry, you can interpret it however you want. However these are the facts.
