Good song... probably about a failed relationship. "Old light and new colours your picture hangs in the night". - When he says "Old light and new colours" I just think of old and new relationships, like the the different people coming in and out of the singers life. "Is this the right time to set one free and go away" - He wants to be with this one person but knows that's not what they want and he's wondering if he should just let them be so they can be happy. "In the emptiness behind you I will walk about Surely you'll miss me but long live the doubt" He's saying that he'll wait hoping that the person will miss him and come back, but he knows that it won't happen. Anyway, that's just my interpretation of some of the lyrics... Great band.
I agree with Death in Fire, I think the song is about a failed relationship. In the third verse we get a glimpse of when Jonas first realized the relationship woudln't work, I believe.

I agree with the above, it's a failure relationship but deep inside he still loves this person but it cant work out..One of the most complex feelings in my opinion and I guess in the chorus "What will replace us What will be our memory of this time" it's just a universal theme, what will be a memory of our time. Basically yeah, contemplating on an old relationship of some sort. He's saying it's time to let go of the memories... but what new memories will rise to take the place of the ones that seem so important now?
I really like how he uses the phrase "second hand impressions", to describe memory. I've never heard it put quite that way before, but it is eerily true. When living in the present, in any given situation you only have your personal impression of reality... and when remembering, it's not even first hand anymore. Your getting that impression filtered through another source, perhaps altered even.
