| Adele – Someone Like You Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I imagine this song like false bravado. Especially the chorus. It's like she psyched herself up to finally go see him and be like I'm here, I'm in love with you, and he's got this cozy little life and it didn't go the way she wanted. So she half jokingly says "Oh nevermind, I'll find someone like you. I hope you're happy yada yada. Kind of like you always used to say that sometimes love hurts." It's just that horrible feeling of "Oh, shit. It's actually over." |

| Sufjan Stevens – Concerning the UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illinois Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I get the religious allusions, but could it be that perhaps it's referring to the rebirth of a town or an area? Because I would imagine that something like an alleged UFO sighting would bring plenty o' tourists to the area, and thus cause an otherwise sleepy area to thrive? | |
| Sufjan Stevens – For the Widows in Paradise, for the Fatherless in Ypsilanti Lyrics | 16 years ago |

In the booklet, the lyrics are: morning comes in paradise/morning comes in light (not mourning, but you can interpret it that way) and it's "I was dressed embarrassment, I was dressed in wine" which makes less sense, but it's how it's printed in the insert. |

| Sufjan Stevens – Romulus Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I love how he refers to his grandfather as grandpa. Most people once they grow up, call their grandparents "grandfather", but he still calls him grandpa which adds a heartbreaking innocence to the song. | |

I actually kindof see this song as almost a 'losing virginity' sort of song. Or first time with this person that you love. He's got to leave, and they almost did, but they didn't, and he's begging her to save herself and her love for when he returns. |

| Say Anything – Most Beautiful Plague Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I think in the beginning he is confessing his love for a girl, and begging her not to hurt him, because he doesn't think he could handle it. (You don't wanna make me cry or I will fill you with the emptiness inside. Baby! You don't wanna say goodbye or I will soak you in this rich formaldehyde.) He then goes onto say that he feels like this is the perfect time for him to pass on the burden of his love to her, because it was all he could do. (You're beautiful tonight, the stars are burning bright, I'll give this curse to you, like there's nothing else to do) He wouldn't care if plagues were rained down upon them he loves her so much. For the next verses, she's sortof already knocked him down, so he tries more desperately for her love. First he tries pity, by saying she makes him feel crazy, and how broken he feels by her not accepting his love right away. When that tactic fails, he tries to show her how much he's sacrificed for (it's crazy how you take up all my time, got me sipping at a gross amount of wine) For the chorus he turns back to the romance version, desperately trying to woo her. Then, he finally gets it, so he gives in, and just thanks her for pretending to care (fighting and having sex). |

To gingerr. I'm pretty sure Anthony Green doesn't sing on this track. He does sing on The Hangover Song though. |

| Say Anything – Spores Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I think this song is a direct embodiment of the confusion that comes from hooking up with an ex. The song itself even seems kind of schizo, with the aggressive verses and the soft choruses. In the first verse, he calls his ex up, and when she effectively blows him off, he gets even by starting this cat and mouse flirting thing, both playing hard to get. He's acting as if he can handle just a hookup with his ex. Then in the chorus, he reveals that maybe he really does still care for her, and being with her again is making him miss her even more. He's figuratively drowning in her. It's sortof a losing situation because he feels happier when he's with her (left your spores inside of my empty core) and everything reminds him of her (our baby's got your eyes) but he knows that things are not the same. Verse 2, they finally hook up, and it's violent, angry, and frustrated, essentially because he loves her, and because she's just getting off. All of the pain of their breakup with the added sexual tension caused by the aforementioned makes this hook up like a tidal wave. She then explains to him she doesn't want him, and it was just a physical thing, because she's infatuated with another. in the next chorus, he admits that even after that, he still loves her, but he feels used, and cheap (your gaze adorned the whore you left behind) And it ends with his anger, and and jealousy that she still left him even after he gave her everything he had to offer. |

This song is simply the most romantic song I've ever heard. And yes, I am alive with the glory of love. |

| Say Anything – Goodbye Young Tutor, You've Now Outgrown Me Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I love this song. I think a lot of people can really relate to it, because it really embodies the desperation one feels when your heart is broken. All you want is for that one person to come back, and tell you that you are all they want. Bad breakups always feel like a bad joke, and you are waiting for the "just kidding". This CD came out right after I got out of a longterm relationship, and it was really comforting to me to know I wasn't the only one feeling they way I was. I especially love the way Max sounds as if he's on the verge of tears the entire song. |
