| One Night Only – Nintendo Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I aint sure about this song, I have feeling its kinda like a help me plea... Bear with me... But it sounds like George is singing about someone he hasn't met yet, he's saying; "life slips by on an absent mind you still smile and it picks me up" I reckon its about wishing someone to come along and let life slip by. Then there is this desperation about the chorus, he's staring at the window thinking where are you? Almost as if he wants to find this person, just my feelings on it... |

If you can, try to listen to the 'Nolens Volens' Demo version of this. I think its about what sataygre says. But I'd like too add something. He says 'Coastguard are you familiar' is this perhaps a question? Like asking himself, 'I know that face' I also think its about domestic violence and such too. Some of the lyrics have that sort of undertone! |

| Maxïmo Park – A Cloud of Mystery Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
This song is possibly about the buzz you get while meeting someone for the first time... Further more its about how that 'buzz' subsides later on. Also, there is some lyric corrections to be made; Her painted features smothered in the groom -should be Her painted features smothered in the gloom At night she strips away the face -should be At night she scrapes away the face Kept for a Thursday afternoon -should be King for a Thursday afternoon Bathroom lights start the evening -should be Bathroom lights stud the evening Hairspray curls push the cheek -should be Hairspray curls brush the cheek |

| Maxïmo Park – Karaoke Plays Lyrics | 16 years ago |

When I was at a gig at the Head of Steam in Newcastle, Paul Smith told us the song was about the boring and small things that go on in life, and take up your thoughts while something bigger is going on! This leads me to make another interpretation of the song! Maybe, the smaller picture is; someone getting run down (whether thats taken as run down by a car / some other form of transport, or just feeling run down), and karaoke playing (something you can often hear on the streets of the area!!) and the bigger picture is the partner of the person focusing on the smaller things wanting to leave! Just another thought :P |

|
Did you ever feel the thrill of the chase, The breath on your neck, And the locked embrace Did you ever feel the thrill of the chase, The hairs on your neck, And a lost embrace All of the tiny events in your back, It reminds me of the way that porcelain cracks. There the really good lines in this song, so romantic |

| Maxïmo Park – Our Velocity Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
The bits at the begining could be about his home town, Billingham in the north east of england... Beneath the concrete there’s a sound A muffled cry below the ground There is a poison in the air A mix of chemicals and fear this could be about the chemicle works billingham is surrounded by, and the mines that are underneath billingham Its about his feelings of isolation |

The lyric; 'Every night we've got so much to say I wanna hear all the things you did today' Could be refference that the person portrayed never listened to the person who has left, and just took them for granted, and now there gone, he misses them so... |

the song Karaoke Plays is perhaps one of Maximo Parks most mellow and meaningful songs... It is perhaps about someone who someone can't see anymore, how 'i waited up for you' but he couldn't ever see this person... He talks about what makes a grown man cry, thats more of a statment than a question, he's saying this is what makes a grown man cry! 'We never did want the dawn to break Decided from the sheets in which we laid You know I changed my ways forever The North Sea crashes through your dreams as I leave' Hes talking deeply about how he wishes his last moments with this person could have lasted forever.. and when he left, it broke both of them apart! |
