| Portugal. The Man – Evil Friends Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
I think the other comments on here have somewhat overlooked the religious aspects of this song, such as: "I've got a friend in the devil" and "Before you were born, I was already sinning" I could be wrong, but I think when he says "you", he is addressing people who are religious and view themselves as being morally superior. "And it's not that I'm evil, I've got a friend in the devil" ^ In my opinion, these lines are saying that he is not trying hurt anyone or do anything that he feels is wrong. Instead, he is just having fun doing what they consider to be sinning. "I don't wanna be friend, You'll never find a friend like me" ^ These lines seem rather literal to me. He is saying that he could never be friends with someone who thinks he is "evil" and that they wouldn't want to be friends with him anyway. Basically, I think this song is along the same lines as Modern Jesus. |

| The Kooks – Mr. Maker Lyrics | 12 years ago |

I might just be crazy, but I think these lines really get to the point of the song: If he was alone he'd give it all away To people and things, that he wanted to save To me it sounds like an interesting way of looking at greed. He wants to help as many people as he can, but instead he chooses to give more to those closest to him. This interpretation also changes the meaning of: It's all right, it's OK Because of the love he gave away Other interpretations on here suggest that this means his behavior is justified because he is caring for his family and giving his love to them. I see it as only Mr. Maker's way of justifying his own inaction. The line "the love he gave away" has a somewhat negative feel to it. He gave his love away and now he can't give it to anyone else. I think the point of this song is that for many, giving their love to their family means giving up their love for everyone else. |

| Vampire Weekend – Walcott Lyrics | 13 years ago |

I find it a bit strange that no one has really mentioned the fact that there may be any deeper meaning to this song... Anyway, here is what I think about the song. Obviously, in the literal sense this song is about the movie the band members wrote. I think that the song is rather metaphorical as well. Since Walcott is on a mission to save Cape Cod, I'd say most of the lyrics are just excuses for why he should get "out of Cape Cod tonight." It almost seems like the song is sung from the perspective of the voice inside Walcott's head that is telling him to leave. The important part about this is that he has the responsibility to save Cape Cod so he can't. Therefore, I think this song is about responsibilities, the desire to run away from them, and the struggle to persevere. |

"No need to stress.... I heard they found a solution. Where will you be for the revolution?" The solution to stress and a revolution. About legalizing weed...? |

"Or if the sky opened up and started pouring rain Like you knew he was trying to start things over again" Awesome line... an interesting approach to regrets... |

| Iron & Wine – The Trapeze Swinger Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| That actually would make a lot of sense. Good thought. | |

Yea I know what you mean... Start Something is one of my favorite albums by anyone, but their new stuff is really horrible. I do like this song though. Well, really I just love the line "Never gonna regret watchin every sunset" - its such a true statement, but how often does one actually watch a sunset...? |

| haha actually I think this song proves that she CAN sing but for some reason chooses not to in every other song she sings. | |

Are you serious about the 9-11 thing? All it says is "long live the World trade". It doesn't say anything about 9-11... I mean if the towers were still there the song would probably still mention them. They were a rather iconic landmark. So you hate New York, Xcorpion? Well, so would I if it wasn't for all the awesome shit it does have... I've only been to NYC once in my life, so I don't even really care. I just think you are either extremely unintelligent or simply an asshole, and it offended me a little bit that no one had pointed it out... I think I speak for everyone when I say: fuck you. |

| Placebo – Speak in Tongues Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Rem89, I think you accidentally said it backwards. Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought that "speaking in tongues" meant that a person would speak a language they don't know, rather than understand one they don't know. Anyway, I think the line "So we both can speak in tongues" means that they are both trying to get some concept through to each other, but it is almost as though they are speaking different languages. Hence, if they could "speak in tongues" they would be able to understand each others points of view. Just a thought. Awesome song... |

I think that the singer just feels caught in the middle and completely lost. He used to cling to his faith through everything, but eventually lost his faith and now he has "made this bed" and "can't fall asleep in it." Now he can't find a reason to believe and is caught in a state of faithlessness, but the lines "If you'd be my breathe There is nothing I wouldn't give" imply that he would give anything to believe again. The lines: 'Things that were heard at the scene of the accident: "They never hit their brakes..." "There was no time to see..." "He just ran out in the street..." "Does anybody know his name?" "I think I recognize him..." "He sure as hell paid for that mistake... "' sound to me like they are talking about the Christians that he knew when he was faithful. When he became "corrupt", they never tried to stop him and just forgot about him. I don't think that this song is pro-christian or pro-atheist, but rather simply about ones internal chaos and turmoil surrounding their self-examined belief in God. This song hits so close to home for me... every word seems to fit so well to describe how my life has been effected by religion. Simply amazing... yet depressingly honest... |

| Mat Kearney – Undeniable Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I heard this song for the first time like a year ago, and I never even thought about how it could be about God until a few days ago. Ironically, it seems that any song about God can easily be applied to a relationship with a person. Unless of course it specifically mentions God, but songs that do that are usually lame... |

| Eiffel 65 – Dub In this Life Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Wasn't this a band of the 90's? What is this song about anyway? Well whatever it means, its a good song... | |
| Phantom Planet – Anthem Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Ironically i think that this song about an anthem really is the anthem of the world. Who wouldn't want the harmony that this song seems to imply. I think the one thing we can all agree on is that we all want to agree on something... | |
