| Cass McCombs – You Saved My Life Lyrics

It's when someone shows you that your life is worth something. Regardless of whether you wanted to feel like your life has any value, you feel that way now because you are loved, and this song is trying to explain how grateful you are to that loving person.
It's funny how some of the lyrics could be from a christian song... like we make our partners out to be gods.
And yeah, I think this song is great. |

the singer knows how much greater everything was when everything was new (when they were little)
but he or she is smart enough to know that just because they have grown up doesn't mean the world is ugly
it feels like the singer is re-installing the sense of newborn joy in the boy/girl that he/she is also falling in love with

WOW i can't believe i never picked up on the "baby is due" theme. I always thought it was about a kid going off to college, or possibly kicked out. Maybe they always wanted to paint his/her room blue and make it into a guestroom or something. And also the lyrics "it's never easy letting go" and "as the child before you grows" could go that way. But the baby thing really does make sense, now that i see it that way! Either way its a beautiful song |

i agree, i have so much love for this song, it's really good on the live @ ccc CD. Everytime I have ever heard this song i pictured a guy and a girl stuck at the top of a ferris wheel in a small town fair, and I never realized he doesn't say that directly. I think that is what it is about though, because he says "high above the midway lights" and "swaying singing at the skywheel top". Its all about how one person wants to be friends and the other wants more, and the one who wants more perceives the lack of a serious relationship as a lack of trust. It works as a metaphore with the ferris wheel, how you may think you are falling, but if you trust the ride you'll be fine.
SO in that case, the guy and the ferris wheel are analagous-- therefore, HE is the one with the deceptive feelings, and really should just want to be friends and not more, although by the end of the song it seems to be leaning the other way, that girl is the wrong one for not falling for him. I'd like to hear a song that is the other side of this relationship haha
To sum up, its just the thrill of being in a relationship that is like a ferris wheel, where no one is falling but it may be fun to imagine that sometimes |

quiet possibly the raddest song ever. it is pure perfection in all its musicality-ness. my favorite song of all time. it is perfect for working out, driving, walking, and eating. if my life were a movie, this song would be played during the opening scene, the car chase, the romantic first kiss, and the credits. |

I don't know Portuguese, but i expect the lyrics are loosely the same as the David Bowie version-- where the news has just arrived that the world is going to end in five years, and as everyone is reacting in chaos and mayhem, he notices one girl sitting in an restaurant window just chilling and sipping a milkshake. If these lyrics do follow that storyline, I would have to say i like this version more, as it has that same message about finding that one person who is the realest out there, who lives life day by day. What makes it better than the Bowie version is that no one i know speaks Portuguese, so it is like a secret. |

what a song, everyone's been there-- not wanting to say how you really can't help feeling, because it might ruin a potentially great friendship... it makes me think of Jim Halpert from the Office (season 2) |

soo good, its about the kind of love everyone should have for everyone they meet. when a person says "i hope you last a long time" it is pretty much the epitome of selflessness. Nothing would make me happier than seeing you last a long long time |

to me this song is more about a feeling than a meaning and i hope everyone in the world is lucky enough to have someone who makes this song play in your head |

I can't help but be reminded of Cream's "I'm so glad" everytime i listen to this song, as different as the two songs are. |

I think the first line of this song is one of the best of any. I think this song is about a guy falling for a girl who is his best friend. Like the first lines, how they have fun and are comfortable together, but he is scared to want her. I can see the homosexuality aspect, but to me a line like "a man makes a man a man" could also refer to how guys objectify women when they hang out together, like peer pressure to be one of the guys. "is that the way to kiss a friend" is also along the lines of being friends, possibly more, but unsure. |
