I Remember Learning How to Dive Lyrics
I Remember Learning How To Dive
I remember
Learning how to dive
Deep end board
I was high
I remember learning how to dive
I had to go
To the end of the board
And distract myself
And go wheeeee what now
I just had to jump
You just have to jump
And touch the water
With the ends of your fingers
I remember learning how to dive
I had to go

One of my favourite Animal Collective songs, though I have many. I doubt it, but do you think there's any relation to Pink FLoyd's "learning how to fly"?
I think at that one part she says "and go waaaaaaaaaay up now" and before that i think she says "I distract myself"
I'm confused by the title, it's 'i remember learning how to drive' however listenning to the lyrics it sounds like dive, can anyone explain this?
Also i also think it says "i distact my self" but then goes "and go weeeeeeeeeeee out loud."
I love this song however when i first listenned to it i thought my cd player was broken due to clicking haha
is it innocent is it sad i just don't know
thanks, it's been finaly fixed! [=
Yay! This song is great. Animal Collective makes me feel like a little kid all over again in that bittersweet kind of way.
i just had to jump you just have to jump and touch the water with the end of your fingers..
My favorite
I dont see how this would make you feel like a little kid for me its more about growing up, maybe drugs, and well experiencing new things, and telling people they should too (drugs?)
This song has nothing to do with drugs. That meaning only pops up in the bridge between song and listener. ATMO
"This song has nothing to do with drugs." :
"This song has nothing to do with drugs." :
"i remember learning how to dive deep-end board i was high."
"i remember learning how to dive deep-end board i was high."

can't help bt wondering, what inspired them 4this song?
Anyone else think they chose the word 'dive' because it sounds like 'die,' especially the way they draw out that long 'i' sound? Plus 'die' rhymes better with 'high.' I think this song is more than just what it literally says. It could be a song about death, comparing it to the first time diving off a diving board. The mood of the song makes sense in both cases as well. A bunch of their songs seem to address death directly or indirectly.

Yeah, I completely agree -- I heard it as "I remember learning how to die" for ages, which makes it a much more somber song. I think that it is definitely a metaphor. But I also long the "wheee" in the song, that Vashti sings with Animal Collective, which makes it so childlike and sweet. I love this idea that maybe even as we lay dying we can have this sensation that reminds us of learning how to dive as a child. But the metaphor could be for anything -- in a similar vein to David Lynch's "catching the...
But the metaphor could be for anything -- in a similar vein to David Lynch's "catching the big fish", it could be about following your passion, overcoming fears, and just diving in.
