Streetlight Manifesto – Linoleum Lyrics 12 years ago
I always felt like NOFX's version was kind of off because of the tempo and overall sound of the music. It just never seemed to match the words. Streetlight's seems to get everything right though because the melody and words match up perfectly.

Streetlight Manifesto – Oh Me, Oh My Lyrics 12 years ago
I think this one is just about existencelism (spelling?). The line "our disease" most likely refers to the human condition, and the rest is just saying that many people don't know how to handle the ending of their lives or even the progression there of because they spend much of it living as though they'll never die and putting things off until it's too late. Just my 2 cents though.

Streetlight Manifesto – If Only for Memories Lyrics 12 years ago
I hear this song, and it makes me think Tom is talking about just living a life that's more than what many of us wind up with. It starts out with the person being born, then growing up and having many things that make life grand, but still wanting more, like to see the world and go elsewhere.

Streetlight Manifesto – The Hands That Thieve Lyrics 12 years ago
I'd like to think he's talking again about breaking away from established religions/bodies of belief, Christianity in particular.

The first bit about not feeling guilty until being told he was probably pertains to the notion that you typically aren't viewed as a sinner unless you know about god, Jesus, and the notion of sinning. Same goes for the telling a lie portion, which I read as saying that he claimed to believe for a time, and before he knew it, he'd given up everything that made him who he was.

the next major part, the one about fighting till he's died, is just discussing the problems people often encounter when they break away but are confronted by the views of the overwhelming majority, but they refuse to give up their own beliefs for those of the majority they initially broke from.

Finally, I think the refrain refers to historical figures who were deists at the very least, if not atheists. The line "I don't care if I loose because my heroes did too" may very well point to many historical figures who did in ways express their counter views but ultimately had them painted over by the belief of the majority of the time. the judge is probably supposed to be god, who if you look at the bible is anything but benevolent, thereby suggesting that even the almighty can't figure out what's ethically right or wrong.

The Toasters – Decision At Midnight Lyrics 13 years ago
I think the song in general is about how one crucial moment of good or bad judgement can make all the difference between outcomes in life. It just so happens though that these decisions typically aren't made in broad daylight, they're made in the dead of night, hence the title.

Less Than Jake – The Brightest Bulb Has Burned Out Lyrics 15 years ago
I feel like once again this song is about regrets and moving forward. He's telling someone that he's there for them if they need someone. That things and people change as time presses forward, and that it's no surprise they feel the way they do considering their activities and behavior. He's sorry that he never got to enjoy the future he could have had, but he also understands that you have to let it go and move forward because that opportunity is lost now. He's sorry that he's not the same person he used to be and wonders what happened to him as well, and for that, he's offering his apologies and condolences.

Less Than Jake – Scott Farcas Takes It On The Chin Lyrics 15 years ago
The more I listen to this album, the more I become convinced that the majority of the album is about getting out of the town you grew up in and away from all the people you knew growing up. I mean, history of a boring town, five state drive, Scott Farcas takes it on the chin, and Al's war all seem to resonate with that theme. There are also a lot of other songs by LTJ that have this theme in them as well.

"and how this town it keeps you pinned down
with the same old song from years ago
and y'know this place will chew you up and spit you out
before you go."

this line alone is pretty straight forward and seems to explicitly say that, at the very least the town they're in, home towns grind people down and prevent them from breaking free. Even if you do break free eventually, that town more or less had its way with you prior to you escaping its grasp, and that it's probably going to color your perception.

Catch 22 – Arm To Arm Lyrics 17 years ago
I think he's talking about how the "structured life" consisting of a daily commute, a 9 to 5 job and all the other societal expectations are driving him nuts and how he longs for something else. he doens't want to be at the top of the structure any more than he wants to be a part of it. he wants another option and he misses the relationship he once held with a girl which also contributes to his state of mind. he must have mistakenly taken a train to hobokken and come across a new form of music that he wants to pour his soul into.

Streetlight Manifesto – Down Down Down to Mephisto's Cafe Lyrics 18 years ago
it's about shedding your faith.

he can't understand what they're doing wrong by just being good people and he can't accept the existence of god or the punishment because there's nothing to support these claims. He says that all these faiths have claimed this state of ultimate truth for themselves and he says if that's true, what about the other faiths that make the same claim? the man with kindness in his eyes, and fire in his heard is a rolemodel of sort who showed him that you don't need a fait to be a productive member of society or to make a difference. Unfortunately, this path is often frought with troubles and tribulations and it's a very hard road that many people can't travel. The memebers f these faiths got their hands on him and they managed to break him.

Streetlight Manifesto – Here's To Life Lyrics 18 years ago
this song is about all the geniuses that he reveres and the decisions they've made. Most of them killed themselves or are thought to have comitted suicide. the reason Holden Caufield is mentioned is because he in somewhat resembles the singer. Holden thinks about suicide but never seems to follow through and that's the point. the singer and certain listerners who this song speak to feel as though theyre not emotionaly steady and may people of great intelect often are. they see the pain that the world tries to ignore and they tned to take it personaly. Vangoh couldn't fit in with his own society no matter how hard he tried, Colbain didn't want his music to become part of a corperate racket, and hemmingway finaly killed himself becuase he could never be what he idolized most, the masculine man. The singer realizes that there is this connection and his own potentiol and he feels sorry for these men he reveres but admitts that he can't follow in their footsteps. He acknowledges that they were true rebeles in the sense that they wanted to help others when he says "with a golden heart comes a rebel fist" . the only reference that threw me here was the KDC but that was because I never knew the name of Kurt Colbain's band. This is a good song, and I know myself, like countless others hear this song and we feel the pain that all these remarkable individuals felt in their time. they were ahead of the curve and troubled by thier own intelect. their genius was both a blessing and a curse.

Less Than Jake – The Rest Of My Life Lyrics 18 years ago
this song is about, as many of you have said, someone who has made countless mistakes all of the same nature. the part about saying good bye to your best friend is talking about the fact that those who are closest to you often have a biased point of view, and that to discover the true nature of the issue you have to look outside the sources you would probably go to first. "this is my all time low" is talking about how they keep making these same mistakes but they just can't seem to correct the issue and they feel like it's not worth trying any more (suicide is also a completely viable interpretation). the life support reffers to that inner flame that keeps you going and it's been extinguished some how and when they say "it twists like a blade" is talking aobut how painful it feels to realize that everything about you, and your world is flawed and without salvation.
