| XTC – Dear God Lyrics

There's no "struggle" in this song. He's basically saying if god is real, he doesn't believe in him, because look all around us...
I don't have faith in Pol Pot, I don't have faith in god. |

| Belle & Sebastian – Marx and Engels Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
There's been a few references to communism/socialism. The Hammer and sickle on the cover of 'this is just a modern rock song', this song...a reference to an anarchist author in 'a century of fakers' who "didn't get it right". By all means, Marx and Engels got it right, but the Soviet Union and others got it terribly wrong - this is what I think is meant by that.
It's all up to you on what it means really. |

| Belle & Sebastian – Fox in the Snow Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
This song is just observation and thought. When it's snowing you could just sit there and see these things happening. The lonely girl walking, the boy on the bike hopelessly trying to ride on the ice and slipping over...the children playing. You wonder how the fox manages when it snows. Someone may say "the foxes must be having a hard time" - That's possibly how the song started.
Though my opinion on the song may be "simple" it is my favourite Belle and Sebastian song, and your mind does run off with it. |

| Pulp – Do You Remember The First Time? Lyrics

Firstly, the "straight" in this song has nothing to do with sexual orientation. It's to do with having a "straight" or dull personality (in the guys opinion).
Though, it could actually be a girl singing, and her ex-girlfriend turned out to be straight. |

| The Smiths – Girlfriend in a Coma Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
You always see people in movies talking after the death of a friend or partner, and one of them always says "there were times when I could have killed her"...But of course, annoying the person may have been, they wish they'd never thought that at all.
This song is about regret for everything that has lead up to his girlfriend being in a coma. Possibly abuse, possibly just bad thoughts.
"No I don't want to see her" - pride, and an inability to confront his regret for what has happened. he doesn't want to be sorry, but of course, he can't help but give in. |

| My Bloody Valentine – No More Sorry Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
I think it is "filthy dirty" - think about it in a way which isn't sung "filthy!...dirty!"
If it were "filthy daddy" it wouldn't explain the "don't call daddy" - which would refer to her calling her dad on the telephone, possibly for him to get her out of the situation. She's just too scared to do it.
It's an abusive relationship.
Although, if it is "filthy daddy" Think about the language often used by males who like to dominate "who's your daddy?". Either way, the song is what you make it. |

| The Wake – O Pamela Lyrics

"It's based on imagined as opposed to real events. Just a way of thinking about a relationship between two fictional characters from the perspective of the one who knows time will change everything" - Caesar
I was later told that the detail I go in, an as many of you have already gone into, is spot on. Time changes everything and in the case of this song, it did. |

| The Wake – O Pamela Lyrics
|
Basically my original thoughts on the character is that he's a younger person who is mentally aged from the break up of his relationship with pamela. A love he had for her that he put so much into and gave up so much for, that when she went he was left with nothing - he is turned cold and empty. The first part of the song is a reflection while reading his diary.
The part of the song where he opens the door and lets the rain pour in is a moment of numbness. When Pamela says "oh look at the time" - it's her on the phone, giving her reasons for hanging up after a short conversation, when he has so much more to say.
"Oh Pamela, tell everyone, hang my head in shame, take your name in vain...You have everything, everything you bargained for, everything you worked for, everything you would have killed for - take everyone, take everything" - Blinded by bitterness. In his mind he's been used and feels she has taken everything from him (even though it was never intention). In his mind he feels she'll be the eventual end of him, but has given up. "do your worst".
"Will you take a walk with me in the sunshine? O Pamela, before it's too late" - His dreams. |

Slowly melting
No one sees us
Slowly melting
No one sees us
If they could only
scratching hope on your heart
scratching hope on your heart
scratching hope on your heart
Maybe one day
you will believe
maybe one day
you will believe
if you could only
scratching hope on your heart
scratching hope on your heart
scratching hope on your heart
see me
touching
turn me over
see me
touching
turn me over
if you could only
scratching hope on your heart
scratching hope on your heart
scratching hope on your heart |

| The Cure – Lullaby Lyrics

"When I was really young I had a very strange uncle (also called Robert!) who delighted in finding as many ways to scare me witless as he could. One of his favourites was to whisper grim bedside stories into my ear, stories that often related the twisted deeds of a horrible boy-eating creature called simply 'The Spiderman'. One night he actually went so far as to climb in through my bedroom window after the lights had been put out... I screamed for what seemed like days. The 'Spiderman' stories ended that night, but my fear of the dark and spiders persisted for quite some time... the video won the bpi 'video of the year' award... so I suppose thankyou Uncle Robert, wherever you are now..." this song really isn't about "living fast and dying young" it's more of a piss take. note that everything listed in this song is what all rock stars are doing these days and to end up where? dead. Giving their childhood away and pretending this is the way to go when along it's a story that ends up with the same bad ending. |

I adore this song, specially the last few lines. to me it says that some people don't realise the responsibility they have to give a new born baby the life it deserves, which leads to neglect and even abuse. |
