| The Cure – Doing the Unstuck Lyrics | 15 years ago |

It's weird that almost everyone here finds this song to be "happy". I always thought it was about suicide, and so does like 85% of the YouTube comments on the videos featuring this song. It is very melancholy, like death is just a happy relief that he longs for. "Blow back your head, and kiss it all goodbye." Yeah, that is somewhat graphic. "It's a perfect day for letting go For setting fire to bridges Boats And other dreary worlds you know" He's going to stop with trying to seek help from outside sources (boats and bridges take you to outer places). Just going to go for it. "But it's much too late" you say "For doing this now We should have done it then" Well it just goes to show How wrong you can be And how you really should know That it's never too late To get up and go... I think this is the man talking with a friend, who is aware that he is contemplating suicide. The friend is telling him that if this was inevitable, he should have done it before there were people who cared for him and depended on him, like maybe the girl in the song is his wife or girlfriend. "There's loads of other stuff can make you yell" He's thinking that anyone could take his place, and be with his girl and make her happy. (since the line has a bit of sexual context) He's nothing special. "It's a perfect day for doing the unstuck For dancing like you can't hear the beat And you don't give a further thought To things like feet Let's get happy!" It's a perfect day to just do it already. Not giving a further thought to the things he needs to tend to (the beat= ignoring those things. Feet = physical things that he won't have in the afterlife). He's going to just let it go already. It's well known that "Let's get happy" among destructive types means, well, destruction. Usually self mutilation. It doesn't necessarily mean suicide, but it not usually a good thing. In the last stanza, he's "making his bed". "...the pages with all the bad news." He's deluding himself. That life is fine, everything is fine. Nothing is bad. "Turn everything red and the dream is complete With the sound of your world Going up in the fire" His visions of how he'd go is working out. His crying is drowned out by the fire, and we can just assume he shot himself in the head (if he didn't die in the fire...) "Blow back your head and kiss is all goodbye" ... Perhaps a stretch, but just some thoughts. |

It took me several listens to love this song.I liked "The Consort" better, but after finding out it's meaning..ugh..it's a little too blunt. This is a great song though with lots of emotion. Not one to skip :) |

I don't want this song to be about sex,I thought it was more along the lines of a girl he knew in high school. But you think of it in a sexual manner..."though my throne's slightly smaller than yours". Wow how profound :/ I don't at all think it's about sex, that would make this song in bad taste I think. Anyways,I love this song to death.Beautiful! |

KMJO8,That makes alot of sense.I was thinking something like that.Maybe he's refering to someone else though when he mentions a homo and a hairdresser (Maybe he means himself as the homo and someone else is the hairdresser and some else is the "you"...I could have use better wording to say that but,eh.) Thank you for the, though! |

| Rufus Wainwright – Going to a Town Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I agree with somethingrugby.I think what Rufus was trying to do came across to us as dull and heavy.I like the song, but I dont purposely put "Release the Stars" in my CD player just to hear it,infact if I had this song and this song only on a disc,I would never listen to it.The video however had all these references to America and I just felt like "Okay we got it already".I thought the director did a good job on a good note. And that's about it;this song has been done over and over countless times by "political" artist,it's lame.I still love Rufus though,he would have to degrade women for me not to :) | |
| Rufus Wainwright – Tulsa Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I dont think it's ALL about Brandon Flowers because it sounds like he is mentioning colourful fans in Tulsa.Brandon is married...to a WOMAN-lol-But the Killers do have the song "Andy, your a star"about a gay stalking,so you never know! | |
