Distant Relatives – Patience Lyrics 13 years ago
Verse III asks important questions regarding God, religion, knowledge, existence, purpose etc. the outro line basically highlights the audience this song is directed towards:
"This goes to all the wisdom and knowledge seekers of the World. Sabali, Patience, yeah"
To all the truth seekers and conpiracy truthers out there, we can either recoil and hide from what we see is happening to us and all around us, or we can embrace the truth for what it is and let us set us free. The truth will set us free. it's so easy to run and hide and resume our ordinary lives with a a beer, tv and lakers game and pretend we don't know anything and ignore the truth, brush it aside as conpiracies/paranoia/superstition, just consume the lies that we're constantly being programmed to accept as fact, but it's better to confront lies/truth with patience and self-empowerment/being the change you wish to see in the world. There is a spiritual war out there, a war on your soul a war being waged on your consciousness... on human consciousness. evil only triumpths when Good people do nothing, just stand and watch and let it happen. deny ignorance/lies and practice truth, light and patience, as long as you have patience and hope, truth and wisdom will always prevail. Focus on your positivity and on your spirit/soul/consciousness and don't let fear, dark occult energy/satan get to you and distract you away from the path of enlightenment/truth/light <3

Part II

I should also mention, that the notion of east/west in verse 1 is also reference to alternative history and sacred texts which reveal that human civilization rose from the east and now sets in the west. criticism against academics and scholars who are paid to rehash and propgandaise an official/revised history, which favours the winners. History is always written by the victors. this also ties into notions of the New world order (satan-west) in conflict with the old world order (God-east).

My interpretation of Verse II:
"Huh, we born not knowing, are we born knowing all?
We growing wiser, are we just growing tall?"
- Notion of reincarnation ties into this i feel. if you do past-life regression therapy you attain knowledge of previous lives and experiences, the line symbolises an awakening - remembering life before life, life before birth, your life's purpose here on earth. God has a plan for everyone, this universe is intelligently designed as we can see in the fractal universe/mandelbrot set and the notion of consciousness. i see esoteric and occult wisdom in these lines, knowing all things/God consciousness in the notion of the "Akashic records/Library" - universal consciousness reflected in the entire design of this universe and all of creation. it's a scientific fact that memory/knowledge is stored in the universal design - cells/energy/wate, just as energy is not created nor destroyed but transferred.

"Can you read thoughts? can you read palms?
Huh, can you predict the future? can you see storms, coming?"
- Occult/esoteric knowledge, parapsychology - telepathy, prophetic visions, precognitive dreams about the future. Famous individuals include Babba Vanga, Edgar Cayce, Nostradamus.

"The Earth was flat if you went too far you would fall off
Now the Earth is round if the shape change again everybody woulda start laugh
The average man can’t prove of most of the things that he chooses to speak of
And still won’t research and find out the root of the truth that you seek of"
- commenting on how new structures/theories/inventions are always at conflict with old structures/theories/inventions that refuse to accept new ideas/truths because of mental conditioning (e.g. laugh) society is in to accept everything as fact and never question/research/evolve/change. this is very much predominant in science and history, for example, Galileo was condemned and died for the truth, Copernicus's model that the Earth rotated around the sun, a truth that contradicted biblical truth. it's like what camus was complaining about in the myth of sisyphus essay, where man faces an existential crisis of absurdism when there are no absolute truths and values in the world. humanity is suffering because we're working against eachother instead of working together in order to find out the truth of all things.

"Scholars teach in Universities and claim that they’re smart and cunning
Tell them find a cure when we sneeze and that’s when their nose start running"
- the academic community and university is designed for very purpose of maintaining the “status quo”/ethics of research and the system/preventing progressive ideas from being explored until you can be trusted to know what the “truth” is apparently is to be known by those who came before you. Whoever says that in university your freedom/capacity of thought/speech/action is not limited is blind. Certain ideas are more preferable “healthy” to the system than others, and if you promote and engage with the more agreeable concepts you’ll get through your degree/get accepted by academic community easily.
once again, scholars are still in the "problem, reaction and solution" paradigm, rather than focusing on preventions than cures. We've got a long way to go in the evolution of consciousness. PATIENCE.

"And the rich get stitched up, when we get cut
Man a heal dem broken bones in the bush with the wed mud"
Rich are more advantaged than the mass middle class/poor. It's always the middle/lower classes who have to do the dirty work of the elites, it's because we gave our power away in the first place which is why we're treated like toy soldiers. this song is all about equality and self-empowerment in this aspect.
Raises the importance of naturopathy science, how old and ancient herbal rememdies and medicinal practices are more advanced and provide better treatment than modern medicine. raises the issue of the supression of ancient medicinnal practices/herbs by corporate structures who just want to generate more income and improperly prescribe harmful substances/drugs to people. The EU is already banning natural herbs that cure all sorts of natural illnesses by natural/healthy means.

"Can you read signs? can you read stars?
Can you make peace? can you fight war?
Can you milk cows, even though you drive cars? huh
Can you survive, Against All Odds, Now?"
- reference to occult/esoteric wisdom - alchemism, astronomy/astrology, tarot reading.
those questions are to make us self-reflect on what modern civilization and human beings can do compared to ancient civilizations and cultures. are we moving backwards or moving forwards towards progression mentally, spiritually, emnotionally and physically? are we surviving/beyond the need for survival.. or are we heading towards the path of self-destruction as a species?

Distant Relatives – Patience Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is truth. everytime i listen to it i'm reminded of the importance of patience and being patient. also of how music can be used as a weapon of enlightement, with it's insightful, esoteric, spiritual messages and symbols. In case you're wondering, the chorus (the bit that's in bambara) is intextualised into these lyrics from the song "Sabali" by mamadou and mariam.

Here's a an English translation of it:
Sabali sabali sabali yonkont̻ Рpatience, patience is worth everything
Sabali sabali sabali Kayi – patince, patience is good
ni k̻ra m̫g̫ Рwhen you love someone

"Some of the smartest dummies
Can't read the language of Egyptian mummies"
- points to the notion of paradoxes, dualism, where even the most knowledgeable, creative, innovative, intelligent and academic can't interpret or make sense of ancient wisdom, the pun "language of the Egyptian mummies" refers to the language of the spiritual - life after death wisdom. the divine, infinite and eternal.

"An' a fly go a moon
And can't find food for the starving tummies"
- criticism on how the wealth and resources used on space exploration - is something that humanity can't understand when those billions used for the scientific pursuit/understanding of the universe, can instead be used to feed and clothe the hungry, the impoverish - basically poverty and world hunger would cease. it's sort of like criticisng the fact that we have problems here on this planet that we all need to work together to solve as a species/planet, yet we're not prioritising those problems as our main repsonisbility, something we need to fix, instead the most intelligent bunch/resourceful are spending their energy/time/reousrces on solving the mysteries of the universe instead. it's commenting on the notion of the microcosm within the macrocosm. if we as a species, esp. the intelligent and resurceful of our lot focused on solving problems like poverty, world hunger, war, crime... solve problems that continue to stagnate our human evolution/progress/conciousness, we could put an end to hegelian dialectics of problem, reaction, solution... this repititive state of insanity - doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. why do we keep looking outside/external when we have problems in the inside/internal, in our very hearts, minds and homes.. on our own planet Earth? if we solved the problems at home, problems that create the suffering and keep just a few individuals privelaged/intelligent/resourceful over the rest of humanity who is stagnated and moving backwards and keeping humanity in a continous cycle of karma, the wheel of samsara of the human condition... then doesn't that mean that everyone as a whole is enlightened intelligent, resourceful? no one gets left behind and everyone becomes empowered self-sufficient, self-independent, self-enlightened, self-responsible...imagine each and every person self empowered now imagine the entire race of humanity self-empowered... that's billions of buddhas/christs - intellectuals, academics and enlightened individuals working together as a strong force of unity for a common cause. if we can fix those small problems that continue to keep humanity going backwards towards self-destructi, those small problems which greatly impact upon the bigger picture and schemes of things, then we can truly progress towards real change and together explore the universe as a human species. no one gets left behind.

"Pay no mind to the youths
Cause it's not like the future depends on it"
- sarcasm. esp. if you look at the music video, you'll notice Damian's sarcastic hand gesture, tone and facial experience. mocking the irony of how schools don't provide children with real knowledge of the world which is ironic because their generation will be the future keepers of humanity with old/new responsibilities and purposes to fulfil. once again, we're stuck in this repeitive cycle of stagnation - problem, reaction, solution. it's kind of what aristotle once said about knowledge and teaching: "This discovery of yours, this writing, you give your students not truth, but only the appearance of truth. They will read many things and will have learned nothing. They will therefore seem to know many things, when they are, for the most part, ignorant and hard to get along with, having the show of wisdom without the reality."

"But save the animals in the zoo
Cause the chimpanzee dem a make big money"
- another comment similar to the irony/absurdity of focusing on problems of the universe/space exploration rather than problems which affect humanity. we focus on saving other animals, yet we can't even save our own species? why? because of money.

"This is how the media pillages
On the TV the picture is
Savages in villages"
- criticism of the media, how it produces ratings/money from sensationalising/propagandasing/taking advantage of the absurdity of the human condition, the problems of humanity - creating trauma based mind control, programming our thoughts and controlling mass consciousness of society. projecting false/bias stereotypes, prejudice and perspectives on particular socio-cultural groups. Esp. creating prejudice against individuals and cultures who show the truth towards enlightenment and growth in human consciousness - keep the masses asleep/blinded to the truth of their existence as a whole, also their self-empowerment and enlightenment.

"And the scientist still can't explain the pyramids, huh
Evangelists making a living on the videos of ribs of the little kids
Stereotyping the image of the images
And this is what the image is"
- similar criticism of religious fundamentalists and secular groups who exploit our emotions - FEAR - esp. playing cards on our "differences", negativity, problems to project their own fears, ideologies and keep everyone in the game of the matrix - the game of polarities and paradigm wars on human consciousness/energy. refers to televangelists who exploit the problem of poverty and children who are dying of malnourishment of hunger to generate their own income. not really creating our productive change to create a long-term solution or fix to these problems. feigned/false compassion and care.

"You buy a khaki pants
And all of a sudden you say a Indiana Jones
An' a thief out gold and thief out the scrolls and even the buried bones"
- criticism on how people change their appearances so easily, acclaim status/right just because they can conform to social appearances - doesn't mean that they actually are who they say they or they really mean what they do/represent. like those televangelists with their fake/unproductive compassion and care. what change are they really doing to help humanity as a whole, when they are truly only looking out for themselves and their own comfort/security, while projecting their own existence/ideologies on others.
criticism on the right/ownership of ancient artifacts, knowledge and discoveries. people who claim to own knowledge or ancient artifacts are actually theives who are stealing and exploting humanity, what belongs to everyone.

"Some of the worst paparazzis I've ever seen and I ever known
Put the worst on display so the world can see
And that's all they will ever show"
- similar to the role of the media. always feeding on the negativity/problems of the human race, human development, human actions, human consciousness but never providing a productive solution to these problems projecting people's fears, creating war propaganda. if you've been following the middle east revolution, you'd notice that news stations like fox lied about their coverage on the libyan war and revolution, generating false reports. fabricating lies as truth for the public to blindly consume as truth without questioning. it's like the media/journalists are energy vampires who amplify amplify and feed on negativity and fear. no news is good news. they never truly demonstrate a 60 minute news show on the positive developments, actions and solutions to the people because then it would lead to positive developments in human consciousness, our enlightement as a species because being shown positive things that human beings are doing and have done and will continue to do creates a sense of purpose for us all and unites us, inspires people rather than fear/negativity which keeps us feeling trapped, apathetic, angry, depressed... esp. in a state of victimisation as though we're not empowered to change or that nothing will change, that violence, poverty, world hunger, rape, war pillaging, theft... as if all these things are normal and natural when they're NOT. they're not okay and we shouldn't accept them as being part of reality, part of the norm because we know that it isn't. it's not natural and innate, since it's started by the actions made by conscious individuals and mentally capable human beings. it's man-made.

"So the ones in the west
Will never move east
And feel like they could be at home
Dem get tricked by the beast
But a where dem ago flee when the monster is fully grown?"
commenting on the conflict between western and eastern nations. particularly the conflict between the U.S./Britain with Islamic nations of the Middle East. once again, the "beast" referring to satan, devil who exploits our differences to keep us fighting amongst eachother, destroying eachother. we don't come from the east, west, north or safe. we come from God, the source, from EARTH. Earth is our home and we're all earthers. by the time they realise this and understnd that they were pawns of the satanic occult groups such as the freemasons, elites or satanic illuminati, who generate order from choas - "as above so below", they can't hide or run from the problems they've helped to create in the first place. the beast is also synomynous with the "ego" - shadow/false self, you yourself are your own greatest enemy. here's a commentary on the ego, from the film "revolver":

"The ego is the worst confidence trickster we could ever figure.

"I am you".

The problem is that the ego hides in the last place that you'd ever look within itself.
It disguises its thoughts as your thoughts, its feelings as your feelings.

"You think it's you".

Peoples' need to protect their own egos knows no bounds.
They will lie, cheat, steal, kill, do whatever it takes to maintain what we call ego boundaries.
People have no clue that they're imprisoned.
They don't know that there is an ego, they don't know the distinction.
At first, it's difficult for the mind to accept that there's something beyond itself, that there's something of greater value and greater capacity for discerning truth than itself.

In religion, the ego manifests as the devil. And of course no one realizes how smart the ego is, because it created the devil so you could blame someone else.
In creating this imaginary external enemy, it usually made a real enemy for ourselves, and that becomes a real danger to the ego, but that's also the ego's creation.

There is no such thing as an external enemy no matter what the voice in your head is telling you.
All perception of an enemy is a projection of the ego as the enemy.
In that sense, you could say that 100 percent of our external enemies are of our creation.

"Your greatest enemy is your own inner perception, is your own ignorance, is your own ego"."

"Solomonic linage whe dem still can't defeat and them coulda never clone
My spiritual DNA that print in my soul and I will forever Own Lord"
Other than the fact that his soul will never be bought by satan, I'm pretty sure that this song is referring to the theory that King Solomon was a black person. The notion of racial supremacy of Africans and Black people, the music video is laced with such an ideology. the irony of this song is that it's music video and this line also projects black/racial propaganda. Bobby Hemmitt is a key spokesperson of the notion of "melanin" as being divine dna/codes, this is based on pseudo science but also research done by the human genome project which finds that melanin/junk dna is not of human origin but of another origin, extraterrestrial? read these links below to find out more about "spiritual dna/ascension/dna activation" and melanin theory of black supremacy.

"Be the change you wish to see." I think you're spot on with the need to grow and nurture love rather than hatred and the metaphorical imagery of "pollution" for our children and humanity itself. Awesome song with a meaningful message.

B.o.B – Ghost in the Machine Lyrics 14 years ago
My most favourite track on this album, because I can really relate to this...especially the line "And I'm terrified, like I've seen a UFO", because of UFO Disclosure etc. and my own personal experiences. From my own personal interpretation, I think this song is about living in modern city where there's various "truths", "lies", conspiracy theories, all sorts of misleading information the average person is constantly being bombarded with because of access to internet, multimedia, technology, books, people etc...and struggling with the meaning/truth of one's existence and the truth of human existence itself.
I think this song is saying that when you're "feeling like a ghost", you know the truth of the situation and can see through all the lies and deceptions of others, relationships, society, history, religion, movements and all sorts of ideologies and systems, but your thoughts/feelings of what you know is truly happening isn't being voiced/heard or reaching out to others who can't see beyond the reality of what they perceive to be the truth or have been lead to believe is fact itself....figuratively speaking, you fade into the background and run from the truth like a ghost who thinks they're still alive and confused as to why others can't see him....the real him, whom he's hiding to protect himself from the dangers that come from knowing the things he knows.
the line "How ironic that we're all so blind." expressed his frustration that others cannot question nor see beyond the manufactured truth they created or others such as the media, political figures, governments and society itself has brainwashed them into accepting, without question...or simply the things he knows is the truth.

"I haven't lost anything except my mind." can't function to think for himself. same sorta concept to "blue and yellow" but more like it's the epilogue. about that closeness you share with friends, loved ones etc i.e. if thats what you're doing then i'll do it too (in blue and yellow). but now it's warped into indifference/apathy, that they don't care/their feelings aren't of importance just their need for sameness in mirroring what the other person does/thinks.

simple really. very nihilistic perspective on those who stand up for their dreams ideals and beliefs and how they keep runnning in cycles in a "In a fight that's never-ending". and when they screw up, they are have "blown it" officially and are just "full of shit". born to quiet i.e. it was failure to begin with. good song.

The Used – Watered Down Lyrics 14 years ago
sorry to post for the third consecutive fken time. i know >___< it’s really annoying. But I’ve come to a divine revealation as to it’s meaning. Not really but here I go. I think it’s either a jibe at Khalid Abdul Mohammad or the use of the excerpt at the end is to create a parallel to Bert’s own situation somehow.

if it's a political message. it might be suggestng how those who begin in poitics with apirations and hopes of creating a better world they live in, their purpose as politicians or public servants were clear, with good intentions of serving on the behalf of their citizens own beliefs and rights. but they get "jaded" and "closed" off with their own opinions, ambitions, agendas and ideals on what they think is the correct action to take, no longer serving the best interests of the general population. they turn corrupt and exploit the powers of their position. other peoples' opinions and feelings no longer influence their decisions or way of life.

"Now my days
Are feeling numbered
The sad cliche
I'm hiding
under this spiderweb of dreams
I'm stuck here as it seems to be breaking"

their ideals or the dream of their purpose is no longer a grounded concept. the dream/ideal is dying. making them turn into denial ("i'm hiding") and keep chasing after false promises and hopes ("under this spiderweb of dreams".

opinion* keybord malfunction lol. . .Suicide just doesn't cut it for me. I like to think that the song is somehow connected to the phrase "there's plenty of fish in the sea", and in the song we're all fishes in different parts and levels of the "ocean" and "seas" searching and swimming towards something real rather than an illusion and the weird fishes and worms are those that took advantage of him in his previous relationships like you said. ahaha, I love and hate this song, it created a bad memory for me. It came up on the radio, when I was doing some of my hours on my L's and it didn't help one bit =_=, i swear my instructor was enjoying every bit of it, that sadist . .for it's meaning I'm just gonna take it in the literal sense. A fear/paranoia of cars and how we drive them or they drive us, also idiots on the road who drive recklessly for whatever stupid egositic reason without thinking of what the consequences might be.

Radiohead – Nice Dream Lyrics 15 years ago
thats...'nice' HijackedAffairs XD..I don't think I can agree with any of freud's theories or an Oedipus like situation ..it's creepy thinking that one of my fav songs from radiohead is about a [dream] about a son wanting to kill his father and marry his mother *shudders*.

I love how Radiohead doesn't just create songs with catchy riffs, tunes etc but they have lyrics with meaningful messages, that question things about life.

I think this song is about a person getting carried away with their ideals. They don’t see the reality of the situation but rather disguise or ‘improve’ the reality of the situation with lies or assumptions that paint pretty images about people, people’s actions and their life to make themselves feel better etc.

They feel as though they can continue being happy or positive about themself and their life by creating and (make) believing in their exaggerated truths. For example he attaches adverbs (assumed ideals) like ‘protect’, ‘love’, ‘gave’ to these people’s actions which give him ‘sunshine’ and make him ‘happy'.

But even though they can consume themselves in this state of a ‘make-believe', the ‘nice dream’ phrase at the end of every verse or ‘story’ sounds patronizing and it’s as though his conscience is telling him to wake up. He knows conciously that he's lying to himsef by omission. But instead of opening his eyes to the truth, he creates more glamourized or falsified realities to quieten his conscience, with the second stanza or ‘exaggerated reality’ coming in.

Up until then the song was played in a slow place with violins and Yorke sings it in a soothing way to create that ‘dream-like’ essence to the situations, but then when the last two lines come in, it's as though it’s sang by his conscience, and he loses cover and lets reality cave in. I love how in the bridge, the guitar solo that follows is played in a frenzy to highlight the state of confusion, anger etc

But, it’s a temporarily relapse as he returns to that state of believing in what he wants to believe if it makes him feel happier, when the song resumes wih the original slow pace and with the soothing vocals.

It takes a lot more effort to lie to yourself and to believe in your manufactured truths, so that’s where the question of whether you’re able to or “strong enough” to keep doing it to yourself comes in.

Anyways, that’s my 2 cents.

Ladyhawke – My Delirium Lyrics 15 years ago
I agree Chilled_Tigeress, I think it's a song that depicts how love/attraction can lead to obssession and infatuation, to the point where your sanity is questioned and it becomes bad for your health.

For example,
"Still hanging on (for what)
Can`t operate (fired up)
I won`t eat eat and i sleep for you yeah
No rest till i (get through)
Coz i`m holding out (for you)
Am i the only one who`s insane"

She's in an altered state of consciousness where she's facing constant confusion, agitation etc due to the fact that the person she's infatuated with has her tied around her his finger, he's manipulating the situation to his advantage.
She's singing about how she realises what he's doing and how it's affecting her to the point of which she has little 'self-control', she just wants him to stop messing with her feelings and stop giving her mixed signals.

I'm glad i stumbled upon Ladyhawke . .Paris is burning is what got me hooked and now my delerium, should probably go out and buy the album now.

Funeral for a Friend – You Can't See The Forest For The Wolves Lyrics 15 years ago
afi23, I'm sorry if my comment offended you but I do stand by my belief that the media should shoulder the blame amongst other systems and things that occur in this world as to why people choose to turn away from religion and doubt the existence of God and rely upon themselves to determine what is deemed as right and wrong in this world, instead of looking for a divine force or reason to justify their actions or the way they should live their lives.
I think I should clarify on what I meant when I said "Lack of faith syndrome". It wasn't directed towards the "athiesm" doctrine or any theological concept as much as the term "Faith" is linked with christianity oe theism. As an agnostic theist myself, I interpret it as a lack of belief in the emotion HOPE or the feeling of believing in the possibility of a postive outlook on life.

(should've included this in the previous post, forget i had more to say lol)Have you also noticed how the news, a current affairs programs, and all those other news bringing shows mostly portray negative aspects of whats happening in the world such as war, death, crime, disasters & sadness?
there's a message in the song that's suggesting that it's come to the point of turning people into atheists or just doubting the existence of God, if all they see is that shyt happening, and no coverage is being made on the good things that are happening around the world, things that promote the existence of God or give the public HOPE or a sense of faith in their lives. It's no little wonder people doubt the existence of God, esp. those in my generation (Generation y), we've grown up with TV, media and all these technological devices since birth, so most likely we're affected time to time with the lack of faith syndrome if not more so than others.

This is is absolutely kickass! The breakdown is just awesome . .I love the transition in the beginning - from an acoustic pace to the bass & drumming kicking in. & when the chorus comes in the vocals just sync perfectly with the chords. Awesome..!
Fav lines would be "Bullshit never had any intelligence"
I agree with you, the media always twists and exploits the truth to manufacture their own version of truth for ratings, which equals $$$$. It's really sad considering they're willing to brainwash and feed the people of the public, their own family and friends, with this bullshit all for money. It's as if they're selling themselves out.

This song is absolutely beautifully amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! (with or without the twilight connection)
It fits perfectly to Edward's feelings and actions towards bella conveyed in twilight and midnight sun!His character is one that always contradicts himself, with what he really wants with what he really does.
He always tries to do the opposide of what he really wants to do, because he doesn't find himself deserving of love, believing himself to be a "monster".

He finds the more he tries to resist or fight off his feelings and new found interest for Bella by staying away from her or ignoring her, but it only makes it harder for him to stay away and the harder he falls for her.

x3 it !

I'm loving the love and other disasters album. I've noticed there's an imporvement in their music compared to their previous albums eden fire and only inhuman, maybe because it's more melodic? I'm finding the vocals, drum and guitar work to improvise more perfectly to produce better sound and harmony.
I can def see their influences shining through their work. Most of their songs hold a similiar format/ structure or sound effect to that of Soilwork's songs. The guttural growls can also challenge that of Anders in, In Flames.
This band is truly talented and without a doubt their future works will be even better. This song, affliction, damage control, fallout, red-eyed friend, ruin, encaged, hellgate and powershift (might as well say the entire album) are my fav tracks.

Slipknot – Gematria (The Killing Name) Lyrics 15 years ago
This is a very political song thats for sure.
It's smart of Chappy535 to point out the historical origins of the song's title.

"Plato (c. 427-347 BCE) offers a discussion of gematria in its simplest forms in Cratylus, where he claims that the "essential force" of a thing's name is to be found in its numerical value, with words and phrases of the same numerical value may be substituted in context without loss in meaning." - wikipedia.

Key sentence:
'where he claims that the "essential force" of a thing's name is to be found in its numerical value'

The killing name is noneother than America (no offence to any of you americans out there. i've noticed america's image to the outside world isn't exactly conceived in the brightest light, but what country is perfect? Whether we like it or not all Governments are filled with corruption, only yours is out in the open for the media to scrutinize more since you're the supposed 'superpower' (which will change in a couple of decades time considering the unstable state of your economy and constant wall street disasters, China will gain supremacy (are you aware China has funded your economy before?), prepare to learn some manderin! lol) hopefully the times will change for the better now that B. Obama's your new president.

the line, "What if God doesn't care?", makes me believe that C. Taylor, or the person who wrote these lyrics, might be making a comment about how America is known to be a very Christian democratic society and their political agendas often carry religions purposes. & with the 'war on terror' more like war on iraq, it's like, 'what if God doesn't care if you invade a country, kill innnocent civilians, children and women, destroy people's lives (who had no such connnection with saddam hussein or the taliban or terrorist networks), basically sacrifice the lives of innocent others all for the purpose of preventing terrorism activity? Haven't you realised God gave up on us long before?'

All in all it's a very political and in your face song, no doubt some people might be offended, but looking at it from an objective point of view, you can't help wonder if it holds some form of truth.

Anyways, soundwise the song is one of the most brutal and agressive tracks on the album, like butcher's hook. It's a good thing mind you if you need a power charge or go fken crazy. It's one of those Get the fk up songs.

Funeral for a Friend – Waterfront Dance Club Lyrics 15 years ago
This song makes me envision an abandoned warehouse of some sort at a waterfront yard, that houses teenagers who go there to socialise, party and get off on drugs. The person has injected heroin or something illict into their system with a syringe as described in the song, half the people that's there, they don't even know.

"last call on the waterfront as the kids all stare
into thin air, you wait for your breath to come"
Worst of all they could be overdosing on a drug, but everyone around them is to consumed in their own thing to notice or care.

On a bigger picture, the song is suggesting how some of today's youth are being pulled into this sort of world of drugs and partying and not giving a crap about the world itself, maybe due to some of the pressures that life throws at us such as poverty, broken families, abuse etc.

Funeral for a Friend – Kicking and Screaming Lyrics 15 years ago
This song really gets me on a roll, espcially when it comes to the chorus I can't help but sing along :P
This song is definitely about fighting for love, trying to make your relationship work through the ups and downs.
"My love is exploitation
Not a passing celebration"
The line is so catchy! I think it's saying how the person never takes their love for granted. and every moment shared with their lover is a moment that never goes to waste. When in love you seize every moment.

"And I don't want to feel
Like a part of history"
They don't want the relationship to end and be part of his 'relationships with ex's that have failed' history department.

"And the grass is greener, on the other side
That's where I want to be, somewhere that she can really see"
He's trying to be the best that he can be for her, even if that means changing himself for the better or worse. Love is not always about how much you suit a person but how much you're willing to change to suit them. (Guess where I ripped that last line from lol, one of my fav songs).

"We all go out like we come in, kicking and screaming"
this is the line that really gets to me, there's so many ways you can interpret it.

1. It could be reference to birth & death. We come into this world through our mother's wombs, "kicking and screaming (more like crying though). & we die in the metopherical sense of "kicking and screaming", meaning very reluctantly, like a child chucking a temper tantrum. "Kick the bucket!!!!".

2. Or in a relationship sense, we can begin a relationship with fights/disagreements and relationships end with fights/disagreements.

Funeral for a Friend – Maybe I Am? Lyrics 15 years ago
One of my most favouritest favourite tracks on the album. XrookieoftheyearX, i like your interpretation, but when I look at it from a bigger perspective, to me this song is about how hard it is to truly define who you are in this age of time.
What you stand for, what you live for and what you truly believe in.
There's so many religions, cultures, languages, different perspectives in this world, not to mention thoughts on what is really "right" or what is "wrong".
Does God exists? or was it the apes?
Does heaven exist or do we reincarnate?
There are so many things you can believe in, but it's so very hard to when everything seems to contradict one another, and everyone tries to persaude you to see their point of view on all matters.
The question mark title "Maybe I Am?" emphasises on how very easy it is for people to change their beliefs, attitudes and perceptions on a whim or just out of experience.
The verses that begin with 'Maybe I'm a pessimist' and 'Maybe I'm an optimist', highlight that concept. I think the song also explores "meaning". As in what one thing means to a person may mean something completely different to another. I think it's also suggesting there's no such thing as a "one truth", there's always more that one interpretation and meaning to anything and ironically enough, songmeanings.net exemplifies that a lot.

Funeral for a Friend – Constant Illuminations Lyrics 15 years ago
The song does sounds awesome and the activism is right there.
gemhenz, I like your interpretation.
"Constant illuminations" is the visual imagery of the impact of bombs being detonated on site, like a fireworks display.
"Nothing but friendly fire" is ironic, i think the line is having a jest at how the military promotes the reasons in the concept of 'war' as a positive purpose when it's training and reprogramming the minds of their troops and soldiers.
It's to camouflage or disguise the true nature of what war achieves or what they will achieve when they go into combat.
Invade a country, abuse it's system/people, power to exploit, bomb it's people, kill and injure civilians and send yourself into a suicide missions.
The war really does kill the spirit, or humility thats left in those soliders and troops. After an experience like that, their entire being and perceptions change into nothingness, apathy.
Out of context, "Dulce et decorum est/Pro patria mori" - it is sweet and noble to die for one's country. There is more than one way a person can die and not always int he physical sense, in this case, war can kill a person's spirit/soul.

Funeral for a Friend – Rules And Games Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm absoluting loving Memory & Humanity! The album gives off FFAF's older works, like those in their Hours album. The drumming, guitar melodies/chords and the vocals just harmonize so perfectly.
Even though there's visibly a lack thereof screaming elements compared to their previous works, It feels as though I'm listening to a symphony. Great album to listen to if you're angered or in desperate need of a mind massage.
As for this song's meaning, it's all very cryptic to me.
But to me, the title gives one interpretation away.
"Rules and Games" makes me think of childhood, where as kids we'd play games like tag or hide and seek and we'd have rules to them. I think the song is symbolic of innocence and happiness, and how we desperately cling onto these moments, to savour the these traits/feelings. Because we know how very temporary they are now matter how consumed we are in the depth of our joy, it'll soon be overruled by the pains of reality.

Chris Brown – Superhuman Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is absolutely amazing . .! All his collaborations are good & just like "No Air" this will probably be a hit. The music video looks awesome too!
I agree with dancehalldrugg, the person was depressed because their life lacked of something, in particular, someone. They found that person, who gave them the reason to change their way or outlook on life.
Their love and acceptance brought out the happiness, confidence and the courage in him. Whenever he's with this person, she seems to bring out the invincible side or 'protective' streak in him, a side he never knew he had until he met her. Love has the power to conquer all and I guess the concept is shown through this song.

This song and the music video itself has no words that can completely describe the pain of a lost love and the downward spiraling of a person's life after their love's death.

There's this theory going around that the song is based upon the novel called "Burned" by Ellen Hopknins. Which I can see to be true, since the music video portrays the plot of the novel perfectly.

lol If you felt the music video was sad, then you've yet to learn the full story and feel the true edge of human depressive melancholy in the novel.

Metallica – The Unforgiven III Lyrics 15 years ago
Before I heard the song, i told myself not to carry any expectations in case I’d be disappointed. I'm far from it, the transession from the piano, trumpet, guitar and drum intro is hauntingly beautiful and sends shivers up my spine and the hairs rising on my head and arms.

As for the song meaning, here's my 2 cents.
The first song was about a pariah's childhood and all the demons and negative experiences he encountered through his upbringing, inflicted by society and his parents.

The second song was about the pariah finding a person whom he felt he could share his burden to and they could provide him with the hope of being forgiven, as their reaction to his experiences would be free of judgement as they are "unforgiven" too.

And this song is possibly about him accepting how he will remain unforgiven, unless he himself forgives all those who inflicted damage upon him. His present and his future are marked and influenced by the demons of his past. He realises that he can finally gain redemption through forgiving others, allowing him to let go of the anger, sadness, bitterness, resentment that continues to overshadows his present.

"How could he know this new dawn’s light
Would change his life forever?
Set sail to sea but pulled off course
By the light of golden treasure"
The first line makes reference to where the ballad last left off (Unforgiven II i.e.), He has past through the door and embraced the light. The light of a new dawn symbolising the hope of gaining forgiveness, fresh beginnings, rebirth of one's being spiritually, emotionally, and mentally.
I like how the concept of his journey of his life is represented through the symbolism of the "sea".
"Set sail to sea but pulled off course" makes me think he planned on living his life through the highs and lows of the waves (obstacles) he encounters along the way until the light of "golden treasure" inspired him change course. The light symbolising "hope", the "golden treasure" symbolic of the greatest treasure he seeks. Redemption.

"Was he the one causing pain
With his careless dreaming?"
I think he's wondering to himself if he, himself, is also guilty of contributing to the negativity that’s accumulated over the years, through the decisions and actions he's made.

"Been afraid, always afraid
Of the things he’s feeling"
I get the impression that this bit is speaking of the person's life in general. How the fear of embracing his "feelings" (of whatever emotion) controlled his decisions, actions, life etc. not allowing him to be human.

"He could just be gone
He would just sail on
He would just sail on"
He can either let his fear give him the courage to end his life (gone) or let it motivate him to fight on (sail on). The use of second person narrations (i.e. "He") suggests that he's speaking of the past, the person he once was before coming to acceptance of the circumstances of the present.

"How can I be lost?
If I’ve got nowhere to go?"
From here on, the narration used is first person, marking the circumstances of the present. To state the obvious he's unsure of what course of direction he should take in his life, only he hasn't made any plans to allow him to take action and move forward. He finds it a bit ironic considering he feels lost when he's not trying to go anywhere in particular, or achieve anything.

"Searched for seas of gold
How come it’s got so cold?
How can I be lost?"
"gold", "cold", are probably just for rhyming, maybe he's lived his life striving for forgiveness, with the fire of ambition. But now, it's as though his flame of ambition for redemption has died out and left him feeling "cold" (indifferent, apathetic, despairing) after a few failures.

"In remembrance I relive
And how can I blame you
When it’s me I can’t forgive?"
He finally realises he's unforgiven because he hasn't retuned the favour and forgiven those who have harmed him (this is what distinguishes/separates the "he" from the "I", the past frame of mind he was in to the new perception he has developed at present). His memories and the pain he feels haunts him, and he can only let go of this negativity until he forgives. You realise that when you forgive others, you allow yourself to be free of the pain and resentment you have attached to the things they have done to you. You finally let yourself be free of the weight of these emotions and feel redeemed. "To err is human, to forgive is divine.”

"These days drift on inside a fog
It’s thick and suffocating"
He lives his life surrounded by a haze of confusion as to if he should forgive his demons and allow himself to let go, and it seems to consume every breath he takes.

"This seeking life outside its hell
Inside intoxicating"
I don't really get this but i think the quote 'This seeking life', He's speaking of the force that compels him to look for balance and peace, compared to inner state of his mind and emotions, that are like drugs, something that keeps weighing him down.

"He’s run aground like his life
Water’s much too shallow
Slipping fast down with the ship
Fading in the shadows now"
I'm not sure what this means either but "he's run aground like his life" makes me think his life seems to be stuck in the past. There's no sense of movement towards the future.
He believes he's "sailed" (lived) his life on "shallow water", shallow water could symbolise how he never really got anywhere, because he never managed to go further towards "deep waters", meaning he never really crossed any "seas" towards "gold treasure" (forgiveness).
The "ship" symbolising the ambition or the feelings that drove him to achieve his dreams, goals, or seek redemption has "sunk", "he" (his past persona) along with it.

"A castaway
Blame all gone away
Blame gone away"
The experience of feeling "lost" has allowed him to remove feelings of blame and resentment he shifted on his perpetrators. He has been cleansed/changed by the "sea" (the journey of seeking redemption).

"Forgive me, forgive me
Why can’t I forgive me?"
He has yet to forgive his demons, before he can heal and finally gain redemption.

Slipknot – Dead Memories Lyrics 15 years ago
lol yeah i get what you mean funkymonks11.
I don't feel like overanalysing this song since i feel like a broken tape recorder.
I reckon it's about him coming to terms with where the relationship or his past experiences have left him at present.
I think he might be regreting some of the experiences/memories he's gone through and wishes he could go back in time to prevent the problems from even occuring.
But i think he realises that he's a slave to both fate and time. either that or he can't control the aftermath/consequences of his actions and decisions in life in his own favour. life doesn't always work out the way you want it to in the end.

"We were never alive, and we won’t be born again."
this could be referring to a relationship thats gone bad. It's ended and won't be sparked up again.
Or it could even be referring to the "other self", meaning the person he once was before the relationship. He was complete, an individual not needing to rely upon another until he committed himself to her, he let that bit of him die thinking he was a "changed man".
Now he's left in the darkness once again and realises he can't go back to how he once was (living his life without her) and that part of him died the moment he let her into his life. His own independence removed since he probably became dependent on her to keep standing.

snuff, dead memories, gehenna (maybe other songs?) seem to share similiar concepts.

Slipknot – 'Til We Die Lyrics 15 years ago
I fken love this song. lol. It's so inspirational and the vocals, chords, and lyrics just scream out the strength of the friendship shared between all nine of them.

This is their song. A tribute to their friendship and the fact that they'll continue to face whatever shyt life throws at them or whatever fate has in store for them, they'll soldier on till death.

Regradless of all the shyt they've faced together in their personal life as well as music careers, their negative/positive experiences faced together only strengthens their friendships.

Their "war" is their determination and strength to endure their struggles and not to crack under the pressures of their lives.

"I've never stopped feeling like family is much more than blood"
They say blood is thicker than water, but i think to eachother blood doesn't mean a shyt, it doesn't come between the fact that after all the shyt they've gone through together just as any family does in life. They're a band of brothers.

"Don't go on without me, the piece that I represent, complements each and every one"
I think it's hinting something about the band here. That if any one of the nine were to decide to up and leave or "kick the bucket" (which i hope not, God forbid), the band would no longer go on, since each and everyone of the nine (#0, #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8) compliments a piece of the whole puzzle, the band i.e.

To lose a member would be to lose a family member as well as a bit of the "tie" that creates the knot, a.k.a "Slipknot".

freezedrysealdan, I hope this isn't their last album. Slipknot keep the spirit of metal music alive. \m/.

Slipknot – Snuff Lyrics 15 years ago
Kacperator - I am fken jealous. lol. You got everything I was trying to say in just one huge paragraph...damn you. lol. joking. But yeh I have to agree with you, I sense that even though he asked her to leave, inside he really didn't mean it. What he probably didn't want her to take it literally and notice what he really wanted, was for her to stay on and fight for their relationship. (as confusing as that sounds) Regardless of the fact that HE was the one that ASKED her to leave, he blames her for chosing to follow on with his request and thats what probably killed him the most. He's probably bitter and hurt and wondering "If she really loved me then why'd she leave instead of fighting for what we have(had)?"

I thought i'd also mention the title "snuff". There's a lot of meanings for it.
1. "Snuff" as in "snuff films" where actual murders/killings that are staged in movies or on film are real killings.
2. "Snuff" is also a type of smokeless tabacco that is inhaled through the nose. There are several types.
3. "Snuff" as in "kill" or put an end to something
4. "Snuff" as in to extinguish a flame/fire/light
5. or it can just be used in general as slang for "inhaling" or to "sniff" something.

I'm leaning more towards 3. (he's put an end to their relationship) or 4. the flame of their love has died out.

Slipknot – Snuff Lyrics 15 years ago
...continued

"So save your breath, I will not hear. I think I made it very clear." - He doesn't want her to deny his request that she should leave him.
"You couldn’t hate enough to love. Is that supposed to be enough?" - I think he's saying that she couldn't bring herself to turn those feelings of "love" for him into "hate" as he wanted her to, so that she could leave him.
"I only wish you weren’t my friend. Then I could hurt you in the end." - I'm under the impression that instead of disconnecting all ties with him, she wants to remain his friend, which isn't what he wanted her to do, he wanted her to leave him completely but I doubt she could bring herself to do that since she loves him.

"I never claimed to be a Saint…
My own was banished long ago / It took the Death of Hope to let you go"
He's letting her know that there's no good in him and whatever good was left in him had disappeared long time ago.
"It took the death of hope to let you go" - there was no grey, there was only black and white, and he chose to walk away from any chance of making the relationship work in the end.

"So Break Yourself Against My Stones
And Spit Your Pity In My Soul
You Never Needed Any Help
You Sold Me Out To Save Yourself
And I Won’t Listen To Your Shame
You Ran Away - You’re All The Same
Angels Lie To Keep Control…
My Love Was Punished Long Ago
If You Still Care, Don’t Ever Let Me Know
If you still care, don’t ever let me know… "

kauffee's interpretation is as good as gold to me. I'm also getting the feeling he's blaming her for leaving him too.

Most amzaing and beautiful song.

Slipknot – Snuff Lyrics 15 years ago
I also have to agree with all of you.
When I heard the first few seconds of the song, the chords sounded a bit similiar to vermillion part 2. and i thought for a second it could be part 3 ("the goodbye song" quoting kacperator).
This song has to be my fav on the album because it's hard to find a a song wth lyrics/vocals that genuinely parallels the singer/songwriter's own feelings.

"Bury all your secrets in my skin
Come away with innocence, and leave me with my sins"
She was probably the "light" and he was the "dark" in the relationship. as cliche as that sounds.
As easily as she brought innocence and light into his life she quickly left along with it, to leave him with his demons.

"The air around me still feels like a cage"
He still feels trapped in his feelings for her and can't grasp a hold of this new freedom.
"And love is just a camouflage for what resembles rage again…"
If you think about it. Hate isn't the opposite of love. "Indiffeence" is the opposite of BOTH love and hate. Love and hate are actually siblings, they are the same emotion and carry the same passion except for the fact that one is negative the other is a more positive feeling to state the obvious.

"So if you love me, let me go. And run away before I know.
My heart is just too dark to care. I can’t destroy what isn’t there."
I think he wants her to leave before he pulls her down with him too, kauffee.
He loves her too much for her to be tainted and ruined by him and the relationship. He feels that the biggest form or act of love that any person can give is "scarifice". He's willing to sacrifice his own happiness for her to not get hurt.

"Deliver me into my Fate - If I’m alone I cannot hate
I don’t deserve to have you…
My smile was taken long ago / If I can change I hope I never know"
It says it all.

"I still press your letters to my lips
And cherish them in parts of me that savor every kiss"
Says it all...

"I couldn’t face a life without your light
But all of that was ripped apart… when you refused to fight"
You can either "fight or flight". I guess he's asking her to "flight", flee from the relationship. But there's a sense that even though he wants her to leave for the sake of her not getting hurt by him, it kills him to ask her to since it's not what he wants her to do. What he really wants is for her to stay with him and "fight" through the battles and obstacles of the relationship. Make it work no matter how hard it might be.

"So save your breath, I will not hear. I think I made it very clear."

Slipknot – Gehenna Lyrics 15 years ago
Ironically enough Judaism, Christianity and Islam use the term "Gehenna" in their holy books and the word can be interpretated as "hell". Although there are other similiar meanings. I'm not sure if the name has some sort of relation to what this song means.
The song is awesome, as always and I think it's about a relationship that has ended and the person feels confused as to who who they really are.
They want to move on and remove the feelings they have for this person they love but at the same time they don't want to let go of those feelings, so they try to hold on and hope that the relationship has not ended.
I also think it's about him housing two personalities, and is struggling to keep both personas he represents complete.
BUT while he tries to find a balance for both he feels like he's in "hell" which might be where the title comes in.

"Do you Believe? Do you Fade like a Dream?
Let me hear you BREATHE"
I think he's trying to keep her "alive" (figuratively or literally whatever) in the relationship.

"Let me watch as you sleep
The Sparrow’s Eyes… Promises shift into judgments
I cannot deny that you were designed for my punishments"
He's analysing the situation, especially her traits/flaws/characteristics, and feels that everything about her compliments him perfectly.
"Designed for my punishments" makes me think he's probably hurt her at times but she bends and does not break each time he hurts her, which is why he believes she's made for him. lol.

"The Blood and The Body - Control the cut so it’s seamless
Show me your Heart - Show me the way to complete this
TETHERED / to a scene I / TREASURE / can you help me?"
"Control the cut so it's seamless" has to be one of my fav lines from this song.
I think he's trying to control his emotions and keep his composure.

He keeps the "cut" "seamless" so that he can try to control the "blood" from overflowing. I suppose he doesn't want to heal this "cut" but instead be able to keep it under "control"
and you know what they say "practice makes perfect" and by no time he'd have mastered the art of having an open wound with an immunity to pain and blood clotting (XD)

The "cut" a reference to the experiences/scars/fck ups the relationship has given him. The "blood" symbolising the negative feelings/memories that flows through the "cut".

"I / SEVER/ god it’s perfect, it’s / NEVER / really perfect
Now… I can finally be myself
Cuz I don’t want to be myself"
The lines contradict eachother, probably to give the feeling that he's never satisfied and how he feels "torn" or incomplete.
When he "severs" he might be cutting off the feelings he has for her outta his system, when he does he feels temporarily whole, but not for long as his "other self" feels incomplete without those feelings.

"FREE MY SEVERED HEART, GIVE ME YOU - I WANT IT
(I don’t want to be myself)"
again another contradiction, He wants to feel like a whole entitity. And there's only two ways that he can do that.
1. He can try to get rid of the feelings he has for her
2. He can try to get her to return her feelings for him once again.

"I cannot maintain a semblance of Normal anymore
I’d rather feel pain than try to fit in with you anymore
I’ll throw it all away, like everybody else
I can finally be myself"
Again with the whole incomplete macho nacho problem. I think he's decided that he'll endure the pain for now but in the end he'll no longer feel the way he does for her and he'll become ONE persona, the person he was before the relationship once again.

"Cuz I don’t want to be myself"
But here I don't think he wants option 1. I think what he really wants is option 2. but I guess he feels it won't happen anytime soon so option 1 sounds the easiet for now.

Overall, I think the person is torn between two split personalities that makes up their existence.
i.e. He's in conflict with the person he was, when with her during the relationship and the person he is, when he is alone.

I tend to over analyse everything [& this is slipknot for the love of god, and i feel like a even bigger idiot for writing this 100 page report on what this song means lol.. so feel free to make me feel like an ass if I killed the song for you :) aha..]

Soilwork – Overload Lyrics 15 years ago
damn..it ate the rest of my comment ...here I go again..

I think this song is about endurance.
The "disease" is probably symbolic for the person's drive/motivation/ambition/power/will/determination to succeed, when they "overload" they spread the "disease" throughout their system.
So in otherwords in times of difficulty, the person keeps soldiering on and endures whatever life throws at them.
No matter how many times they may fail at their attempt to succeed, they "overload" their system with determination and energy to try again, taking in mind not to repeat the mistakes of yesterday.
I also think the numerous failed attempts have left scars on his heart and all this pain has "overloaded" their system, leaving them overwhelmed with a driving force to succeed.

It's def. about not giving up...life either kicks you in the ass or hands you a free beer. Personally, I hope I get my beer soon. lol.

"So can you tell me what exactly does freedom mean,
If I'm not free to be as twisted as I wanna be"
Important message there about how opressing a person's right to express and adopt their own thoughts, speech, decisions and actions in life in any way isn't freedom, free will ftw!

Disturbed – Facade Lyrics 15 years ago
I have to agree with most of the comments esp. TigerLlama31.
I have to say I admire Disturbed for composing this song since it really does strike us, that there are women out there right now, in this very second as you may be reading this enduring an abusive relationship.
Whether it be with a lover, boyfriend, husband, family members or friend(s), they still remain in that relstionship and hoplessly believe that things will turn out for the better and that the person that keeps hurting them will change, which in most cases, is rare.
Just like Turn Soonest To The Sea by PTH, Facade by Disturbed makes us think of how women in society (especially in impoverish countries) are being opressed by social, political, religious values and doctrines that seem to be created and implemented into the system by men.
But anyways lets not take the spot light away from the song which I think is an awesome piece by a kickass band.
