Kicking and Screaming Lyrics
Growing old, around these streets
Never really felt quite like, like anything
Expect nothing, and have the chance
To really go somewhere, that you can't
My love is exploitation
Not a passing celebration
And I don't want to feel
Like a part of history
Gonna' turn this town, upside down
We can die well, in their eyes
Just to feel
Promises broken, at a quarter past five
Burning fires, on the railway hillsides
My love is exploitation
Not a passing celebration
And I don't want to feel
Like a part of history
And the grass is greener, on the other side
That's where I want to be, somewhere that she can really see
We all go out like we come in, kicking and screaming
We all go out like we come in, kicking and screaming
We all go out like we come in, kicking and screaming
My love is exploitation
Not a passing celebration
And I don't want to feel
Like a part of history
And the grass is greener, on the other side
That's where I want to be, somewhere that she can really see
Never really felt quite like, like anything
Expect nothing, and have the chance
To really go somewhere, that you can't
Not a passing celebration
And I don't want to feel
Like a part of history
We can die well, in their eyes
Just to feel
Promises broken, at a quarter past five
Burning fires, on the railway hillsides
Not a passing celebration
And I don't want to feel
Like a part of history
That's where I want to be, somewhere that she can really see
We all go out like we come in, kicking and screaming
We all go out like we come in, kicking and screaming
We all go out like we come in, kicking and screaming
Not a passing celebration
And I don't want to feel
Like a part of history
That's where I want to be, somewhere that she can really see

This song really gets me on a roll, espcially when it comes to the chorus I can't help but sing along :P This song is definitely about fighting for love, trying to make your relationship work through the ups and downs. "My love is exploitation Not a passing celebration" The line is so catchy! I think it's saying how the person never takes their love for granted. and every moment shared with their lover is a moment that never goes to waste. When in love you seize every moment.
"And I don't want to feel Like a part of history" They don't want the relationship to end and be part of his 'relationships with ex's that have failed' history department.
"And the grass is greener, on the other side That's where I want to be, somewhere that she can really see" He's trying to be the best that he can be for her, even if that means changing himself for the better or worse. Love is not always about how much you suit a person but how much you're willing to change to suit them. (Guess where I ripped that last line from lol, one of my fav songs).
"We all go out like we come in, kicking and screaming" this is the line that really gets to me, there's so many ways you can interpret it.
It could be reference to birth & death. We come into this world through our mother's wombs, "kicking and screaming (more like crying though). & we die in the metopherical sense of "kicking and screaming", meaning very reluctantly, like a child chucking a temper tantrum. "Kick the bucket!!!!".
Or in a relationship sense, we can begin a relationship with fights/disagreements and relationships end with fights/disagreements.
Great interprition of the song.

this song is insane..! brilliant by funeral! never fail to impress
I thik that this song is about having to fight for someones love, but I can't be sure. Perhaps he lost a love and he is doing everything to get her back. Great song once again from FFAF, can't wait till the album comes out.
In one of the live videos of this song, Matt claims it's about playing rock and roll. And it kind of makes sense in some of the verses. Seems like they weren't expected to go anywhere and they really didn't have much to lose. I guess it kind of shows that they shook things up in their home town with the success they have had.
This song is about having a goal and never really expecting to fulfill them or for them to go anywhere. Supported by the first verse. Mainly though, FFAF reckon the way of life in south Wales has a great influence on this, stating that it is a difficult place for things like this to happen, in comparison to the big cities like London, where bands can get into the limelight farely easily. The chorus focuses on how Matt’s ‘love’ of wanting to be in a famous rock band is more like something that is taken lightheartidly by his parents or whoever and taken advantage of but how he is determined that he will one day be in this famous rock band and won’t be another part of Welsh history or nothingness. Good lyrics there of how he contradicts himself with what he says. The second verse again focuses on they way of life in south Wales and how people’s dreams only go as far as schoolchild fantasies, however, again it conveys how Matt is determined that he is going to change the image of the town he comes from and show that anything is possible if you want it badly enough. The bridge section of the song shows that he wants to further his horizons and impress a certain someone by doing something crazy, in the eyes of someone from south Wales, and the only way to do this is by getting onto the other side. The lyric ‘We all go out like we come in; Kicking and screaming’ I think focuses on how at the end of the day, everyone is the same. It’s how determined you are at what you want to be that makes the difference. So, generally this supports what dan3the1man1 said but with more reasoning behind it, how they grew up listening to rock and roll and desperately wanted to be a part of it, and wouldn’t let anything get in their way. Also, the video conveys the typical lifestyle of someone from south Wales, meeting a partner, buying a house, marrying, having children, growing old, and dying together in the same house. Something the boys from FFAF were determined not too do.
