Idaho Lyrics
In the back of a car on a road in the dark
In the stillicide, silently falling snow
I have packed everything that I own in a bag
And I'm driving
I'm driving to Idaho
A poem for leaving
A reason to go
So I'm driving
I'm driving to Idaho
'Cause I can't be anyone but me
Anyone but me
And I can't keep dreaming that I'm free
Dreaming that I'm free
I don't want to fall asleep
And watch my life from fifty feet
My hands are on the wheel so I'm driving to Idaho
'Cause I hear it's mighty pretty
And oh, I've been dumb
I've been perfectly beautiful
Lain on my back buying lovers with stealth
But I'm sick of you all
And I'm sick of opinions
I'm sick of this war I wage on myself
And I don't know why I'm so gripped to go there
A universe riddle that only I know
Mr. Robert he says, "It's all in the head"
Tell me, Phaedrus, what's good?
Is it Idaho?
'Cause I can't be anyone but me
Anyone but me
And I can't keep dreaming that I'm free
Dreaming that I'm free
I don't want to fall asleep
And watch my life from fifty feet
My hands are on the wheel so I'm driving to Idaho
'Cause I hear it's mighty pretty ('cause I hear it's mighty pretty)
'Cause I can't be anyone but me
Anyone but me
And I can't keep dreaming that I'm free
Dreaming that I'm free
I don't want to fall asleep
And watch my life from fifty feet

Mr. Robert he says, "It's all in the head" Tell me, Phaedrus, what's good? Is it Idaho?
There's a book by Robert Pirsig where the narrator is called Phaedrus. He takes a road trip, and -among other places- drives to Idaho.
This might not be relevant, but I think her own independent record label is called idaho.
What a great song! Nerina is so amazing, and so underrated...to me, this song is about someone who's given in to the sins of her past and has decided to run away...
I've been thinking about it (I know, sooo sad) and I think that maybe the way she says
"'Cause I can't be anyone but me Anyone but me And I can't keep dreaming that I'm free"
makes me think this song is about her and her style of music, and her record comapny 'Idaho'. Like, she can only be herself, and make music and she's 'sick of opinions'.
Otherwise, it could just be about her liking Idaho. I heard it's a nice state.
It really is a beautiful song, I adore it! lol . .& yesh Nerina is undderated, and she has composed music better than some of the junk that's heard on our radio stations these days. & thanks to those of the above posts for clarifying what this song means.
