Alice in Chains – Black Gives Way To Blue Lyrics 16 years ago
So obviously about the death of ol' Layne Staley, RIP. But what gets me the most is the ending. It's sudden, and leaves you unfulfilled in the song, like they should have extended the chorus and made a finale instrumental, as in most songs. But I now think that was the point. It's a song about Layne's death, his SUDDEN death, and when someone close to you dies suddenly, it seems like their life, as well as yours, is unfulfilled. Like there should be something more, if even extended slightly and made with a final note. Not just stopping at the snap of one's fingers. Like if someone you knew died and you weren't there when it happened, you would want to wish to speak to them one last time before they passed.

The only difference is, I can just put the track on repeat, and make it seem like the song never ended, it just paused before restarting, as if the song would never end (I'm not sure if Jerry intended it to be like that, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did). Sadly, you can't do that with someone's life. And if you could, life would be pointless. Everything is pointless without death.

I keep wondering if that's Chuck D from Public Enemy singing, it sounds just like him >.> Maybe a little different.

Lacuna Coil – Wide Awake Lyrics 16 years ago
Along with "To Myself I Turned", this has to be Christina's best vocal performance with the band. She sounds so amazing in this song, and I'm glad this is one of the hopeful, uplifting songs; a nice break from some of the angsty dark songs.

Depeche Mode – Personal Jesus Lyrics 16 years ago
According to songwriter Martin Gore:

"It's a song about being a Jesus for somebody else, someone to give you hope and care. It's about how Elvis was her man and her mentor and how often that happens in love relationships; how everybody's heart is like a god in some way, and that's not a very balanced view of someone, is it?"

Stone Sour – Zzyzx Rd. Lyrics 16 years ago
It seems Stone Sour is like a big crossover of Stone Temple Pilots and Alice In Chains, with a few Velvet Revolver elements thrown in (the VR elements more prominent in Come What(ever) May). The STP elements being the mildly grungy instrumentals for the lighter songs, and the AIC elements applied to the vocals (somewhat), the harder songs, but also the acoustic/really light songs, since AIC released several acoustic EPs. And the VR elements are sort of that fast-paced modern rock sound, like with some of the songs in CWM (e.g. 30/30-150 and Come What(ever) May).

As for this song, obviously about family, but I think Corey left it open for interpretation, and for everyone to use, rather than just himself.

Good ol' Tool, never ceases to amaze me.

Tool – Rosetta Stoned Lyrics 17 years ago
LOL @ the Jim Carrey things. I think they might have been purposely added, but like many Tool songs, they design them that different people get a different perception of them. So maybe the Jim Carrey, and my "Bad LSD Trip" theories are both true to the song, as well as other theories with other posts.

Tool – Faaip de Oiad Lyrics 17 years ago
I found Mantra more scary (though this one gave me chills), because Mantra reminded me of the ambiance you'd hear in a Silent Hill video game, which is my all time favorite horror game.

Tool – Rosetta Stoned Lyrics 17 years ago
This song, along with "Lost Keys (Blame Hoffman)" is about the dark side of LSD. Hoffman is the last name of the doctor (not in the song) who, quite literally, discovered the chemical LSD by being subjected to it by mistake, hence "Blame Hoffman" for losing your keys...which is probably some sort of variant of "Losing your marbles". In "Lost Keys" when the doctor asks the patient what happened, it turns into Rosetta Stoned

This song is obviously about the person who's high on LSD, his confusion. Because LSD can be one of the most harmful drugs, mentally. Otherwise explaining how Maynard speaks so quickly and is speaking of stupid things, conspiracy theories with Area 51 and other things of those sorts.

While generally LSD was a sort of spiritual escape for some people, others weren't so fortunate and were scarred for life. Rosetta Stoned is obviously an assumption of people's view points that suffered from negative LSD effects.

I hold more respect for the Live @ the Grand Olympic version of this song than the album version.

Jefferson Airplane – We Can Be Together Lyrics 17 years ago
This was the first song in musical history to feature the word "fuck", no kidding. Bad language in those times was a no-no.
I'd love to go to a protest and play this song. But of course I've got a 6 hour play list of The Beatles, Rage Against the Machine, Disturbed, Live, and other songs of revolution.

Eddie Vedder – Society Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is my anthem because society's a bitch.
You think you have to want
more than you need
until you have it all you won't be free

society, you're a crazy breed
I hope you're not lonely without me

When you want more than you have
you think you need
and when you think more than you want
your thoughts begin to bleed

is a reference to how humans think they need quote, unquote "stuff" to be "happy and free". i.e. Ipods, computers, TV, all that bullshit. I mean, sure I like that stuff, but not to the extent where i sperate myself from, nature (Which the point of the movie is don't seperate yourself from nature, don't let society make you who you are). Well I live in Maine, and there isn't much society here except for a few small towns. I'm happy with the little house I'm livin in now, I don't need a huge McMansion in the suburbs with three cars (one being an SUV) and I don't need electronics to be happy. The song just totally describes my feelings to the whore society.

Ashes Divide – The Stone Lyrics 17 years ago
Ashes Divide is good, and this song is their best (next to Ritual) tho I can't help but admit it's kind of generic. Not saying it isn't good, saying there's allot of other bands that sound like them...or maybe it's Billy's voice. I think his voice is generic, no offense AD fans. Just my opinion.

Disturbed – Shout 2000 (Tears for Fears cover) Lyrics 17 years ago
In reference to the one guy that told us about the RATM album renegades, it was complete shit, Rolling Stones sounds WAY fuckin better than RATM, and anyway out of the eleven or ten songs on that album, I only liked three.
And to THIS song, it's awesome, and just because YOU may not like Tears for Fears doesn't mean you have to be a complete douche bag licking, dog fucker to ppl who DO like them. Personally, I hate 80s music, but I'm not gonna go on an asshole tirade on people who do like it. So anybody that does that kind of "Ur moosik sux" bullshit can have a nice hot cup of SHUT THE FUCK UP, courtesy of me.

Rage Against the Machine – Street Fighting Man (The Rolling Stones cover) Lyrics 17 years ago
This is God awful cover. The Stones are the best in this song, even tho I generally don't like the stones except for this song and a few others. Renegades was not a good album. This, Kick out the James, and Renegades of Funk are the only songs I like.

Tool – 10,000 Days (Wings Pt. 2) Lyrics 17 years ago
I like intelligent and deep music. Lateralus personally is my fav Tool ablum, but 10,000 days parts 1 and 2, Vicarious, and Jambi are my fav songs on 10,000 Days. I basically like ALL of Lateralus (especially Parbol/Parabola [I can't listen to Parabola without hearing Parabol first]) At first I thought this song was about Jesus and the Virgin Mary, but after reading the posts it's definetly about Maynard's mother I perceive.

A Perfect Circle – Gravity Lyrics 17 years ago
3:37 into the song the new riff sounds, not exactly, but VERY similar to the main riff in Godsmack's "Spiral". Could this be a hint about "choosing to live" because "Spiral" is about reincarnation, which is believed in the Wiccan religion. But the "choosing to live/reincarnation" could mean that the person recovering from drugs is creating a new life, because if you're addicted you might as well be dead. I had noticed the "Spiral" riff in the song for the first time yesterday, you guys can take a listen to "Spiral" the listen to the 3:37 point in "Gravity" if you want.

Godsmack – Spiral Lyrics 17 years ago
This is my fav Godsmack song. I like their calmer stuff and their acoustic CD allot. I more listen to Disturbed for the harder metal, but I still have all of Godsmack's hard songs...or atleast the ones I liked. I'm not really crazy for metal, just a few choice bands. But I try others briefly to see if I like them. I keep my mind open to all music.

Tool – Lateralus Lyrics 17 years ago
When I listen to a song I want to know the meaning. Lateralus has to be the most complex and hard to decipher song I've ever listened to. Next to Parobol/Parabola this is my fav Tool song. From what I've read in this comment thingy I have to say that this song could mean different things to different people. For me? It means to me that life is something not to be wasted and unappreciated, no matter how crappy it is, because who knows what's beyond life?

Soundgarden – Hand of God Lyrics 18 years ago
I think it has to do with how some Catholics are controlling. You know, they make Christianity look bad by hating gays, killing Arabians, and considering Christianity the superior religion. That's what this song means to me atleast.

Alice in Chains – Bleed The Freak Lyrics 18 years ago
FunkyPunky1 is right. It just goes to show how bastardized religions were and still are. Everyone seems to think pick your one religion and kill non-believers. IT'S THE 21ST CENTURY, WAKE UP. And GOOD Catholic, Muslim, or Jew knows that killing each other isn't the answer. But this song reminds me of Evangelical Christians. They wanna take over thw world "For Christ" and make everything what they want. They're like Nazis. To get the ol' driftola I suggest watching the documentary "Jesus Camp"

Alice in Chains – Whale & Wasp Lyrics 18 years ago
Amazing song. Jar of Flies is allot less hard than previous albums which is good. The Cello gets me all the time and I can't stop listening to the song. The song reminds of Long Beech Island in New Jersey for some reason. AICs only instrumental and a damn good one.

Yeah I freaked out. I do like the music but that "Bob Marley" thing pissed me off. The Grudge just happens to be one of my favorite Tool songs. Is it Adam Jones that sings or Maynard? Who's the composer? I guess they all do their own thing on their songs.

Soundgarden – Slaves & Bulldozers Lyrics 18 years ago
This is my favorite Soundgarden song. Bands don't scream any more and it's a shame. The scream in "Won't get fooled again" by the Who is great. A few Tool songs have screaming. But Cornell fucking...When I first heard this song I was thinking
"This guy is using a computer to make his voice higher!" And I think it's about the political thing. The Slaves being...like Wal-Mart uses communist slave labor and the Bulldozers something like land development. Using cheap labor on dangerous and environmentally unhealthy grounds.

sound familiar? (Other than the lyrics to Money)

Tool – You Can't Kill a Revolution (with Rage Against The Machine) Lyrics 18 years ago
Chris is an ass but personally I don't think Tool or Rage are the greatest in the world. Sure i like their music but personally I like the oldies the best. I could say that or I can be like Chris and say "Tool is fucking retarded and bullshit" Actually I've never heard this song and it sounds interesting. Tool and Rage are my favorite political bashing bands. ANd actually 23 Eye person if you want a long and complex song listen to Neil Young's 18 minute "Ordinary People" It may not be your taste but Neil sings from beginning to end for the whole time pausing a few moments to do a small solo. And also I the older bands are better at playing their instruments than any modern band I've listened to. But if anyone here bashes me they are retarded because I didn't be an asshole like Chris. Sure accuse me of being pompous because POMPOUSNESS IS MY LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTERISTIC OF ALL TIME! If anyone decides to reply they have permission to email me. It's on my profile.

HYPOCRITE! ADAM JONES IS A FUCKING HYPOCRITE! Let's see. I clearly remember him saying in a concert "Get that Bob Marley wannabe motherfucker out of here!". Yeah this Adam doesn't hold any grudges. it seems he hates people like me! Well I am angry at him I don't holda grudge at him. So if you excuse me I am going to listen to a Bob Marley album and NO! I'm not some loser drug addict. Even more surprising is I'm 16. I've never seen Bob Marley in ocnert or anything.

Pink Floyd – The Trial Lyrics 18 years ago
While on the phone with my friend I told him to look up the Trial on Youtube. He was weirded out and it was funny! My dad has the Wall on a vynel record but that's in NJ (I'm in Maine) at my uncles house. I'd LOVE to have this album. This song is really cool and I just love how deep the songs PF are. Definatly more deep than the bands of today even though bands like Tool take inspiration from this album they can NEVER be as amazing as Pink Floyd.

Līve – Pillar Of Davidson Lyrics 18 years ago
Also the lyrics submitted are obviously from the Awake-The best of Live album because in the Awake albums the song's 4mins. The one on Throwing Copper is six minutes long. I hate when songs are cut short! I bought a CCR greatest hits album and half of Susie Q is cut off. Anyway my favorite part of the song is the background vocals,
"here I am locking horns with the stallion
failing to hold my head up, I'll go back again
pillar of davidson feeling to hard to go down
cheaper than all souls he will walk upon
deeper and deeper in love so I hold my head up
cheaper than all souls he will walk upon
pillar of davidson feeling to hard to go down."
Great song
