Please refer to the last two sentences of my comment:

"By the way, don't waste everyone's time with corrections about the true meaning. I like my version better."

Thank you.

Bruce Springsteen – Born in the U.S.A. Lyrics 14 years ago
I think the term is more meant as this. Since the subject was born here, this is the hand he was dealt. This is his life as an angry young man in the United States in the 1970's.

Because he was born over here, he's forced to fight over there.

Eh. Weakest song on the album. I always skip it.

"I hope you choke!"

"Shoot you in your fucking head!"

Yeah, okay Maynard. Both of those are weak song endings.

I thought I heard that this song was about his wife, so the following is just tailoring the song to my own thoughts. I always thought this was a sweet song about putting your kid to bed.

"While sleep has taken you
Where I'm out of sight..."

She's asleep, away from Daddy, where he can't protect her.

"I'll make my getaway
Time on my own..."

After putting her in bed and her finally drifting off to sleep, sneaking out of the room to have some time to yourself.

"Wasting days and days
On this fight (Incorrect lyrics above.)
Always down and up
Half the night."

Child resisting going to sleep, wanting to stay up. Dad constantly getting up to put her back to bed.

"We'll only sacrifice
What time will allow us
You're sighing..."

Thinking about the time that is given to us with our kids and to appreciate the time we have with them. The you're sighing lyric kills me.

It's a sappy interpretation of a fabulous song. Every time I hear it, I want to skip out on work and go home to my two daughters. (Incidentally, don't miss my posts about Slayer, Bloodbath, and Cannibal Corpse.)

By the way, don't waste everyone's time with corrections about the true meaning. I like my version better.

Great band and I have a lot of respect for all the members...

...but...

...listen to Morbid Angel's 'Where The Slime Live' off the 'Domination' album. There are a lot of similarities in the riffs, and the tempo.

I'm not a rabid Morbid Angel fan or anything, I just remember liking that song a lot in high school.

Not a real strong song, but the opening guitar riff gets stuck in my head.

This song is incredibly annoying.

Major League Baseball went up to Fox Sports and said, "hey, play this before you air your baseball games! It'll be a smash! Just like the Monday Night Football theme, or the Hank Williams, 'Ready For Some Football' theme!"

Yeah... Fox Sports told MLB to shove it.

I like Country music. I hate the fact that every goddamn song is trying SO FUCKING HARD to be edgy and clever. I don't know... Some of you little brains must be eating it up and buying the records.

Eh. To each his own.

Logically, how can you debate a personal opinion? I like Division Bell better than Dark Side. I like Coke better than Pepsi. Is it really that big of bone of contention with you that I don't prefer one thing over another?

Opinions are like assholes. If you offer yours up too often, someone is likely to pound away at you.

Chic – Good Times Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is one of the definitive drug soaked, party anthems of the late '70's.

This song offers perfect theater-of-the-mind. A smoky nightclub with flashy clothes. Middle class kid's in their 20's spending their paychecks on rum and coke and, if it's a good week, going in with a couple friends on an eightball. Hitting the dance floor with loose women with no bras and tall, dark men with big hair.

Around the dance floor are all of the drug dealers and high rollers in high-back vinyl booths watching the action over the cigarette smoke and the din of noises coming off the crowded dance floor.

Great song.

This forum is not open for musician debate.

Is it me or are there 3 errors in the lyrics?

1. He'd "light them up" just for fun. (Burn the tires.)

2. "Stuck in his craw that they made him retire..." (Pissed that he had to retire.)

3. Might be just me because the lyrics are the same here and in the liner notes from what I remember. "El solo number one," doesn't make too much sense. What about El Sob number one? El Sobrante? Les' hometown?
