Where Dragons Dwell Lyrics

A deep voice is rising
From the heart of the mountain
Vibrations of the stone
I can hear in my heart

The call of instinct
The flight of the powerful
I hunger for it
It just keeps me alive

I met the dragon
In a cave by the mountain
Now I bring the evidence
The beast is alive

This ageless army
Will strike in the morning
And then a star will rise
And shine in the sky

But I grow impatient
Cannot stand the wait
And I start to dig
Within me
This tunnel to I

In this region of me
A great dragon is lying
On the wealth of a mighty world
My own world inside

I saw
I saw monsters
And I
And I started to dig within
When I
When I turn my back on them
They devour me
In this region of me
A dragon is lying there
Awake
Monster
Monsters kings
Do not scorn them
But do not fear them
Muster
Muster thy army
Dragons are the myth alive
In the heart of men

I think it's more about our true selves than dragons or Beowulf. Dragons are rare and mythicial creatures, and like our true self or our spirit, we have lost them. It probabily ties in with other Gojira songs about our true selfs and the higher level of concinseness that humanity has lost.

The answer, I think, lies in the line "dragons are the myth alive in the heart of man." Dragons are mythical, and represent a monster that can dwell deep within ourselves... sleeping, or awakened.

In my opinion, the song is about inner struggles such as fighting depression, anxiety, dark thoughts, suicide thoughts, intrusive thoughts or any shitty thing that brings us down...

Dragons are known to keep treasures inside mountains, The Moutain is ourselves, containing our treasure (Heart, Soul, Spirit) and is being held prisoner by dark things, a Dragon in that case..

Sometimes the Dragon doesn't dwell, he is silent, almost inexistant but once you start falling apart and dig within yourself, he comes back guarding your treasure, though you don't want him to...

So you have to fight it, it's the metaphor of the song, you're like a warrior fighting a Dragon in the cave of a mountain but sometimes the fight is hard, hopeless and the monsters devours you...
